With the New Year fast approaches, here's the last in my series of Artists Albums of the Year for 2011. To finish off the year we have some pretty fine choices from the likes of Aerials Up, Inspector Tapehead, Miaoux Miaoux, Woodenbox, The Seventeenth Century, Edinburgh School for the Deaf, Ghost Pants and Sojourner. Villagers by Becoming a Jackel chosen by Debbie Kate ( Aerials Up ) On a bored [...]

we're only afraid of NYC I don't think that it's much of a secret round these parts that I'm a big fan of we're only afraid of NYC. Since the release of their debut EP, zero.one way back in 2009, they've continually gotten better in my eyes (and ears). Today sees the release of their new EP zero.four, which again sees the band take another massive step forward. Fuck knows how they're going to move upwards from this point, for now though I don't care as this EP's the dogs proverbials. Get in about it kiddie-winks, [...]

The Seventeenth Century return with a their second EP, cunningly entitled 'EP2', on the 2nd May. The release will be available exclusively on Limited Edition 10" vinyl, which includes a free digital download code . The band celebrate the release with a gig at Oran Mor this coming Friday (29th), with support from The Scottish Enlightenment and Sunshine Social . Now that's one cracking line up if I do say so myself. Having caught 17C at the same venue just a few weeks back, I can vouch that they were in top form. The Scottish Enlightenment have [...]

Miller Filtered Music: Bombay Bicycle Club, FOUND, The Seventeenth Century. Oran Mor, Glasgow. 30th March 2011 Due to public transport being rubbish, then getting stuck outside in a queue, we join The Seventeenth Century already in progress. Entering a room to the familiar swell of the band and Mark Farmer's distinctive vocals is no bad thing [...]

It's been a while since we last had a competition on the blog, but now thanks to Miller I have the chance for you to win tickets for Bombay Bicycle Club 's sold-out gig at Oran Mor in Glasgow next Wednesday (30th March). The gig is part of the next instalment of the Miller Filtered Music series, which has previously featured Doves and Ash. Support on the evening comes from two of my favourite bands in Scotland at the moment FOUND and The Seventeenth Century. Having caught FOUND at the Captains Rest just a few weeks back, [...]

I know it's a bit of a cliché to run end of year lists in December, followed by your tips for the year in January. But then again I never said I was one for breaking the mould, so I will be making a few suggestions of artists you might want to keep your eye out for in 2011. I have decided to split these into different posts. First up we have some artists that I have previously featured and who I have high hopes for this year, then tomorrow I will introduce four artists who I haven't really featured [...]

The last week or so has been absolutely sensational for gigs in Glasgow. Some i did make, some i didn't make and one got cancelled altogether. Over the course of 6 days from the Tuesday (14th December) to Sunday (the 19th) there were some pretty amazing shows performed and played throughout Glasgow and it's various musical locations. Below i've compiled a list of the best gigs and included MP32s (where available), videos and links. The week should have began with Civil Civic but they sadly had to cancel their gig at The 13th Note last Monday. But since [...]

Less than a week to go kids, yes, the third in the series of Ayetunes vs Peenko gigs is this coming Friday. If you're not coming and you don't have a decent excuse, e.g. you don't live in Scotland, you don't like Jim, etc, then I expect to see you making the effort to come along. I'll be disappointed if you don't make the effort to come along, yes, I am trying to guilt trip you into coming. I am particularly looking forward to this one, as not only do we have three amazing bands and a much bigger venue, [...]

The wait is over, it's the third in the series of Ayetunes vs Peenko gigs and what a come back we have in store for you. On Friday the 5th of November, we will be joined by three of the most exciting up and coming artists in Scotland, The Seventeenth Century, Come On Gang! and I Build Collapsible Mountains. Being the hobo's that we are, we will be relocating to the Classic Grand for this one, it promises to be a corker of an evening, we'd be chuffed to bits if some of you could come down and spend Guy [...]
It was roughly about a month ago that I was up at the goNorth festival, and I came back raving about a couple of bands that are based in Glasgow. Don't you just love the irony of me travelling hundreds of miles to catch artists that I could quite easily see in my own backyard? Anyway, [...]

It was roughly about a month ago that I was up at the goNorth festival, remember that I wrote that long rambling post about it? Thought not, you might remember that I cam back raving about a couple of bands that are based in Glasgow. Don't you just love the irony of me travelling hundreds of miles to catch artists that I could quite easily have seen in my own backyard. Anyway, I digress, one of my personal highlights of my adventures in Inverness were The Seventeenth Century, a band that my fellow bloggers have been getting quite excited about [...]
