Crystal Stilts are letting a mysterious atmosphere slip in their EP In Love With Oblivion, and the song and accompanying video "Shake the Shackles" are no different. The [...]

This joint might sound typical, but take a close listen and it's really not. This is the lead track off of Devine Carama's Blood Of A Slave EP that will be dropping in August.

When you listen to Crystal Stilts' music, particularly the recently released In Love With Oblivion , it almost sounds like you are listening in black and white. Not that the music is emotionless, but, rather, it is serious, deliberate, and vintage sounding. This clip for "Shake The Shackles" captures the aesthetic of the sound, never leaving the viewer without something intriguing to watch, but also grounding the experience in the depths of a time that has past. Check out the video for Crystal Stilts' "Shake The Shackles" below. [...]

Today was going to be a post about all the delicious new bands we found on Bandamp this week, but instead, a rough morning gave me a hankerin' for some comfort food. This can be many things depending on my mood, the weather, the smells in my nose, the horniness in my junk, but today with one speed bump after another and with the rain & wind never seeming to end this Spring, it was my maaaassive REM mixtape that found it's way to my ears.... It's about 5 or so hours long. Hit shuffle, check, done. But then [...]

The only shackles evident on Drugg 's debut EP are contained in the title. Otherwise there is a wonderfully inventive approach taken that will delight fans of forward-thinking pop. They'll find much to love here, because at its heart, 'Shackled' is comprised of three excellent pop songs, each one as good as the last. It's highly unlikely that the listener will recognise this on the first listen, however; these pop songs have been warped and utterly transformed, their foundations built upon and tinkered with to produce a sound dripping with atmosphere. The modus operandi of the duo [...]
In a London garage, long time collaborators and childhood friends Tom Hanley (Vox/Sounds) and Max Whatley (Drums), collude to create electronic duo Drugg . Drugg, bestowed with a background in experimental noise create multi-layered electronica, move effortlessly from dance, to glitch minimalism and soundscape beats. The addition of vocals and live drums lift the music beyond other electronica, with nods to both new wave and new pop vocal stylings. Set to release their debut EP Shackled in March 2011, Tom talks to us about collaborations, beginnings and 'realistic' dreams for the future... [...]

Drugg are a two-piece electronic indie act from Bow in London, with Tom Hanley providing the sounds and vocals and Max Whatley on drums. Their first EP, "Shackled", is piece of cold and dark electronic music that tries to be all-encompassing; it wants to be atmospheric, intense and effective, but it just doesn't come off, and I can't really engage with it. There are better musicians out there that have crafted beautifully atmospheric examples of electronica (see Air, Vangelis, 808 State). Read more..

While drum n bass in the mainstream has been overrun by producers punting over the top, over compessed noisy efforts with about as much groove as a Justin Beiber track, it's good to know that producers such as Glasgow's Morphy and imprints such as Raiden's Voodoo are around to keep the spirit of the genre alive. This, the third release on the label, sees Morphy take a slave's lament and coat it in dubbed out sound effects, eerie effects and absolutely amazing drum work. Available now digitally at Boomkat [...]

Part 3 of 4: Last year in my year end round up of my favorite singles I wrote how the 7 inch single seemed to be coming back into favor. This year it went over the top. There seemed to be labels popping out of the woodwork who's main mission was to gather up the best songs and put them out on little pieces of vinyl. To reflect the bumper crop of singles I've expanded the year end singles count down to 40. Like Casey Kasem use to do, we're gonna count them down. I don't think we'll be doing [...]

The Shackles - Broken Arm It's the energy and naivety, the disregard for prodution particularities that makes this pure fun. Overlook the midi-like keyboard bass and let that guitar line/melody take over. The Shackles are a power-pop quartet who play house parties around Seattle and have a 73 out on Sweet Rot records (Meth Teeh, Blank Dogs). They also have even catchier songs on their MySpace . AFROJACK Todays post is brought ot you in assiciation with the good ppl at windsor salt ... in other words, I dont have much to say today cuz i got a bad case of get.off.me so today the music speaks for itself.. Afrojack leads this one off as the bulk of this post is a lil laid back, tribal house and afrojack throws that down HARD... peep a recent remix of his (his original production by far trumps this, but until another day, this wil get you going) MAKE HER [...]

I better get this post done quick time, since it seems the longer I hold out, the less tunes I have to share with you all due them getting picked up and bagged by labels. Coming from Sheffield and studying in Leeds, Shackles brings some dark beats in his productions for sure. I well recommend hitting up his myspace to listen to his tracks, which are mostly disgustingly filthy. Shackles has an EP hitting November on [...]
