Just because John Peel is mostly remembered for his work with indie bands doesn't mean he wasn't important for dance acts, especially in the early 90s. I could have gone for sessions by The Sabres of Paradise, The Black Dog, Fluke and many others. But here's a track from a session by The Shamen. Possible Worlds seemed an appropriate one to choose. The Shamen - Possible Worlds (Peel Session) What's it all about?: Today (October 25th) is a day designated for [...]
Alright, so The Shamen 's 'Move Any Mountain' is borderline 1989-1990. Here we go anyway, hold tight. Buy The Shamen's music from: Follow @electronicrumor

Back to The Shamen for no discernable reason at all. From 19922s The Face EP , comes Spacetime (Quartz Crystal Mix) . The EP has a number of remixes of some of their well-known tracks, including L.S.I. and Ebeneezer Goode . But it also has remixes of lesser-known tracks, including this one. As you'd rather expect, it has some Apollo space mission samples and some slightly tragic Mr C singing. Would have been better if they'd left this one as an instrumental. His voice works best on the more upbeat numbers. [...]

Ah, The Shamen. The transition from Alone Again Or to the Shamen. From psychadelia to dance. It all went so right. Then it went wrong. But from a time when it was still going right, here's an alternative edit to single Make It Mine , which was released in 1990, although this particular mix is from 1992. I really can't bring myself to hate the Eurovision even when every instinct in my body is flagging me to do so. Can't even find the strength to harbour ill thoughts towards our american cousins from Lucan. If they win it'll be a life of grimes for this small nation and considering the mess we're in it seems like an appropriate fate. So in attempt to restore equilibrium (and fight the unnatural urges I have for that song from Estonia) here is something from 1991 that completely changed my opinion of what dance music was about. I remember [...]

Tweet If you've been reading my reviews before today you'll know that I'm into experimentation. If you haven't then just where the hell have you been? I love the ability of some artists to take sounds that most of us would just dismiss as noise and put them together in a way that not only fits but also produces tunes that we can hum along to. Occasionally they even create something we can dance (or approximate a form of dance) to. This guy is one of [...]
Being an A/V geek can be a real pain in the ass sometimes. I've been recording vinyl for about six years now. During that time I've gone through three computers and four turntables. Each change has brought me better fidelity and audio quality. But I'd never be one to claim I'm an expert at this shit. I make up most of it as I go, and pretty much do things my own bass-akwards way that involves three different computer programs and a lot of slow, monotonous, manual editing that can take forever. But I'm an anal retentive prick, so [...]
For the second year in a row I avoided the Oscars. The bullshit nature of award shows depresses me. So what did I watch instead? Dancer In the Dark. Shit. Seriously. SHIT. I had never seen that movie before. And while yes, it is beautiful and incredibly moving, it's also probably the most depressing film I have ever seen. I had to watch the "Dance Magic Dance" scene in Labyrinth three times just to foster enough positive vibes to get me out of my [...]
Big ups to my Melbourne connection for hooking me up with the elusive Dreamcast vinyl! Dude if you ever need someone whacked, or if you just need someone to get you something off of a high shelf let me know. This giant vinyl/video game nerd is forever in your debt. If any of my other fans ever want to pay me back for all my years of providing free, bizarre music, I would like to remind you all that I do take checks. Seriously though, feeling generous? Go click on that link on the right for [...]
I need this record. I need this record. I need this record. I NEED THIS RECORD. For those of you who don't click on random links without knowing what they are. I am referring to a special, limited edition Dreamcast white vinyl record with songs from various Dreamcast games. It's pretty. And apparently very hard to find. It's a pre-order bonus in parts of Europe and Australia for the upcoming Dreamcast Collection. If any of my European or Australian readers want to [...]
I have nothing to add to that headline up there. I just wanted to say that in big headline print. What a fucking trainwrek. Anyone want to recommend good blogs that are similar to Jezebel, Lifehacker and Kotaku? I can barely visit those anymore. Too many stupid big pictures and horrible design elements crowding up everyhing. How come more blogs can't have amazing layout like mine? That was sarcasm, by the way. Hope you've seen NYE's post about the exclusive Error Operator mix for charity. If not, please check it out . It's been a long while since we had anything by the Shamen. So, something from towards the end of their career and from unusual remixers. Tracks taken from 1995 single "Heal (The Separation)". We have had a mix from this single before by Steve Osborne but this time the mixes come from the promo 123 and are provided by Environmental Science (previously here ) who were remixers in the mid-90s before producing stuff [...]

Every once in awhile, some unidentifiable thing will trigger a sudden memory for me. Whether it be a smell, sound, image, or whatever, it is always completely random, and usually something from childhood. I had one such backflash late on Monday evening as I was perusing YouTube videos and was struck by the following chorus: "I can move, move, move any mountain". It was kind of like the " burnt toast, I smell burnt toast " Canadian Heritage Minute. A quick Google search later, and the autocomplete function reveals a whole lot of other people have been remembering [...]
Hey Enemy are clearly on the path to success. They are my wife's favourite Scottish band, they've been kidnapped my Detour Scotland and their arses have been photographed with Stuart Braithwaite. Next month they hit the road in Europe with Helsinki Seven and they recently spoke to Dear Scotland about the tour and more. European tour [...]

Sat in the sunshine at my local station this morning, listening to my 'new favourite band', Washed Out , I got to thinking about how I got into music. I still remember, as I'm sure many of you who read this post will, what my first album was. Now, I'm going to hit you straight - no lies to retrospectively cool-up myself, no altering of history. Boss Drum by The Shamen. It was on tape, bought from the Longton branch of Woolworths. I was 10. I was a pretty naive ten year old too, for I'd [...]

The proposal of a prodigal Sneaker Pimp-turned-electro stalwart pulsatingly pummelling 90s rave reminiscent of abrasive Aberdeen (emphasis most certainly on "mentalist") experimentalists The Shamen, the grandiose guitars of Muse and the heavenly haunts of Sarah McLachlan into a strobe-soaked hour and a half in a trashy Milanese railroad tunnel is intriguing at best. The reality that Chris Corner, aka IAMX manages to pull off such seemingly genre-bending blasphemy with such vigour is quite simply ephemeral. Trading in Britain for Berlin to avoid the grotty bogs and mires of sedated East London scenes, Corner is quite conceivably an outcast [...]

One band, two singles. Some early psychadelic Shamen, before they became a proper dance act. We've had plenty of 1990s Shamen, after they became a dance act, but nothing from when the 80s when they were still a psychadelic act. From Nemeton.com : The History of the Shamen is the story of several different types of evolution. It's a journey across the cultures of Acid House, the psychedelic underground and the Internet to find the words, sounds and songs of the future. And it follows the fairy steps of ancient shamen: tribal mystics who [...]
