I first saw this card and started thinking of all the other lyrics that would be appropriate for cards for the indie music lover in your life. Of course there are an infinite number of options and these were what came first. I hit a wall while browsing the more extensive discographies of bands like Wilco, Elliot Smith, and Ryan Adams. In some cases the lyrics are grossly out of context and may be found in a heartbreak kind of song. Sometimes that one sweet line has a way of standing out above the real meaning of the song. This [...]
![[Playlist] A Meaty Vacationing Mixture](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4052057_lg.jpg)
Hello friends and others. I am off on a mini-vacation tomorrow (see above picture). When we get back from Mexico the plan is to finish packing up our house and move to Vancouver...finally. Life will be pretty wild over the next few weeks so I highly doubt that there will be much new music posted up here. As a present, here is a playlist that I will be listening to while sitting by the pool, eating tacos, drinking chi-chi's and playing some serious Scrabble. Till then... 1. Dirty Gold - California Sunrise [...]
A brand new song (literally just uploaded) and video from New York's The Shivers . I love them more and more with every song I hear. This one is just perfect right now. The Shivers - Used To Be by Silence Breaks
The Shivers - Kisses [Official Music Video] from Keith Zarriello on Vimeo . Yet another great video from The Shivers for Kisses. If you haven't picked up More yet, you have to. I was listening to an old cd in my car the other night and I heard Beauty, which was actually the first Shivers song I ever heard and it never ceases to get old with me. It's gotta be one of my favorite songs of all time.

10. The Shivers – More More reads like a series of vignettes with a common theme of love. Or, more specifically, lost love. A musically diverse batch of songs that draws on soul, garage and a little electro-pop, but all with a gritty NYC edge. The Shivers - Irrational Love [...]

Scottish Kate is a great friend of this blog and has often offered her (sometimes pithy) opinions on the world of music - and very good taste she has too. She also runs the always excellent (sometimes pithy), and often provocative blog A Burdz Eye View for all things Scottish (of course), political and musical. Here are her aural selections for 2011. The Burd's Best Songs of 2011 Well it doesn't get any easier. Though given that all my old schticks are in here aplenty [...]

With the horizon of a new year seemingly inches away, we're proud to present our best songs of 2011. We have been slaving over albums and hidden tracks for the past month, but now the beginning of our five-part list of the best of the best. 100. Maritime - Paraphernalia The charmer of Human Hearts held the ethereal appeal from a group we come back to with each new record. The group signed with Dangerbird this year and we only see bright things in their future. [...]

It's the moment you've really not been waiting for, yes folks, it's time for me to share with you all my favourite albums of the past twelve months. I fully appreciate that what I say doesn't really matter all that much and nor should it, but hey indulge me a little. This is now the fourth year that I have found myself compiling these lists. Back in 2008 and 2009 I came up with a Top 50 for each year which just seems insane to me these days. This year I have stuck with a top ten, mainly because I [...]

The Shivers – More. Download "Used to Be" (mp3). Download "Love is in the Air" (mp3). The Shivers are a band comprised of Keith Zarriello on guitar and vocals and Jo Schornikow on keyboards, organ, and piano. Zarriello's vocals have a slightly rough growl to them. Combined with his garage rock guitar licks and Schornikow's fervent keyboard playing, the album has a soulful edge to it.

Above: A rather dodgy, shaky photo of The Shivers taken and put through some mad filters to make it look sorta alternative and therefore acceptable to use on a review. First on the bill tonight was Where We Lay Our Heads . WWLOH bring with them a rather delicate and heartfelt brand of folk pop. The shared male and female vocals remind me slightly of the quieter moments of Arcade Fire. Jef's voice compliments Wull's very well, particularly on Wondering About The Fall. Things are still a bit rough and scratched round [...]

A lack of sleep and a morning of CBeebies has left my brain totally fried, so if I ramble a bit more than normal today please take that as my excuse. Why my daughter Erin has decided that 6am is a good time to get up and 'play' is a mystery to me, hopefully she'll grow out of it as mum and dad certainly aren't morning people. Last night mainly consisted of going to a seminar on applying for funding from Creative Scotland, drinking wine and watching the Nirvana night on BBC4. All in all it was a pretty good [...]

Shiver is the sixteenth release from prolific blues rocker Tim "Too Slim" Langford and the Taildraggers - bassist Polly O'Keary and drummer Tommy Cook, the trio have released an eclectic blues album that transverses the genres and pulls in elements from rocks rich tableau, the album kicks of with hefty dose of slide and fuzzed out vocal that immediately grabs your attention before effortlessly switching style for track two where funky back beat and Hammond combine for a stylised blues rocker. There's no attempt to reinvent the genre as the album switches tack again on track three Can't [...]
