It dropped 25 degrees yesterday and now feels like Fall but that season doesn't technically drop for five more days, so here's the final Summer Fridays mix of 2011 on an autumnal tip. Which means some '70s folk, sad strings, and mellow grooves. But as always, there's some great new music on here: new singles from Django Django (the first in a year and a half), Still Corners and Radio Dept. offshoot Korvallren and Junk Culture (featuring Phantogram's Sarah Barthel). Plus some oldies, cult obscurities (Yes that's Matt Berry of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and The IT Crowd [...]
Sometimes Jake Ryan and myself have notes that help control the pace and topics of the show. We had no such notes on Episode 69. Optimo are masters of the plastic but almost always come up trumps on their production too. This is no exception, really trippy acidy synth with deathly traveling stabs and a vocal to match, makes Bicep weep itself to sleep with sinister joy. This is sure to get any dancefloor going Download audio file (8A%20-%20111%20-%20The%20Shor twave%20Set%20-%20No%20Social% 20%28Optimo%20Espacio%20Remix% 29.mp3) We're working on getting a downloadable version available to y'all, but you'll have to wait a bit. Slumberland Records is releasing Swedish all girl trio Liechtenstein 's debut album Survival Strategies in a Modern World on June 2nd. Liechtenstein has an fun, interesting take on early 80s new wave/post punk. Download the free MP3 "Roses in the Park" and take a look at the video for the track "Security By Design" (the B-side to last year's Apathy 7"). All nine tracks on this release are fairly entertaining. These gals are worth a few moments of your time. Download Roses in the Park MP3! [...]

Another week comes to a close with yet another Ten Tracks You Need Post. What more really needs to be said? Well to sum it all up, we've got a few bonus tracks this week that are all zipped up and ready to go. This weeks RCRD LBL selections were kind of slim because there wasn't that much cool stuff that came through over the past week. However, there is a cool DJ Koze podcast from Fairtilizer that should help make up for the lack of tracks. A few videos stumbled in this week as well; they come to us [...]
Nu-disco has nothing to do with white suits and huge labels, and everything to do with great re-edits of old tracks and italo-disco-inspired new acts. Listen without prejudice, as someone once said.
And now, Episode 680 of the continuing story of "An Introvert Goes Public." Typalyzer says my blog is the work of an ESFP. Half of that ain't me, though. I'm an INFP and I'll cower defiantly before anyone who says otherwise. But, ahem, such nattering's not why we're here. Here's why we're here, and darned excited to be so:Okkervil River - Pop Lie mp3 - from Austinites' CD single Pop Lie, due out

Since I slacked off last week, there are two weeks of releases in this post. Although they aren't the strongest of release weeks in both quality and length, there are still plenty of gems among the rough. This week features some great remastered albums and some excellent new artists for all to enjoy. Pearl Jam Ten(Legacy Edition) - Full Album Stream Harlem Shakes Technicolor Health - " Strictly Game " (via [...]
I may not have posted this yesterday like I promised, but I'm sure the majority of you knew I would have this up eventually, yes? I hope so! Anyways, we've got another fine week of releases, including the latest from MF Doom (or just DOOM now), Röyksopp , The Decemberists , Harlem Shakes , and MSTRKRFT . Also, not to be left out are the latest from some side projects including Swan Lake's (Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade, Dan Bejar of Destroyer, and Carey Mercer of [...]

My latest music obsession goes by the name of Shortwave Set. The trio of Andrew Pettitt (vocals, guitar), Ulrika Bjorsne (vocals, guitar) and David Farrell (samples, decks) formed in 2003 in London. The two Brits and a Swede released their debut album The Debt Collection in 2005 and caught the ear of Danger Mouse, who called them one of his fave acts. He asked them to open for Gnarls Barkley, and

Next issue of Mixmag comes strapped with a glorious little mix by one of our favorites. Aeroplane opens with a brand new tune from Mylo 's upcoming album as well as tracks from Friendly Fires , Sebastien Tellier , ZZZ , The Shortwave Set , Appaloosa , Grum , and Poni Hoax . This is one of the few remaining print publications on the dance, electronic, and DJ culture scene. Cheers to Mixmag for continuing to survive in our digital world. [...]
I was a big fan of the British band The Shortwave Set and their debut album The Debt Collection in 2005. They play sample laden atmospheric pop music that's hard not to like. It's self described as "Victorian Funk" but...whatever. On March 24th via Wall Of Sound Records The Shortwave Set are set to release their follow up entitled Replica Sun Machine . Apparently after The Debt Collection gained some praise they caught the ear of Dangermouse and he asked them to accompany Gnarls Barkley on tour. After that it was [...]

DOOM and El-P announced for Soundset 2009, news on Dylan's new album, Tricky at the Fine Line & new Muja Messiah
First up today: an absolutely delicious new release from Six Degrees Records. It's the debut record from Lal Meri, a band comprised of several interesting individuals - in particular, Ireesh Lal used to be in (may still be in?) a...
The Shortwave Set – "Harmonia" I get a modernized Mercury Rev vibe from The Shortwave Set's music, particularly this song "Harmonia". I can't imagine a better soundtrack to drift me through a lazy Sunday afternoon. This British three-piece band doesn't seem to have much in the works currently, so for now we'll just have to be content to live in their musical past.
