New York baseball Giants legend, Bobby Thomson, passed away this past Monday at the age of 86. You can read a nice obituary here . It capped off a remarkable pennant race that featured a three game playoff to break a season ending tie between the Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers. For someone born well after this event, this was always an abstract moment for me; that is until 1999. At that time, [...]

When one of Emerson's descendants discovered his legacy, he did not choose to write a poem, book, or create a documentary film. Instead, he created a band in tribute to his late descendant, naming it The Shot Heard 'Round the World . The band [...]
It got busy, so you get a half-assed post with one funny video, one funny song, and a few recent downloads/purchases that I've enjoyed. --- Shot Heard 'Round the World - "Dead on Night" : A noisy, poppy, fun little piece of music. Not sure how else to describe it, but I like it. Papercuts - "Take [...]
Emerson described the opening battle of the Revolutionary War as "the shot heard 'round the world", and a few centuries later a descendant would start an indie-pop band in Brooklyn and choose the phrase for their name. Really, their name is irony; the band is many good things, but revolutionary ain't one of 'em. Anti-revolutionary, maybe; this is pop that draws from can't-miss 60's influences:
