Noise rock mayhem from New York's Sightings ! The trio delivered their eighth record 'Terribly Well' via Dais Records this month. Come prepared for angular rhythms and crushing guitars, with noise verging on industrial. As Dais puts it, "An accessible album for the unacceptable... their finest to date." There's a vinyl pressing of 500 on offer here - for fans of Einstürzende Neubauten , Ruins and Swans . Sightings - 'Bundled' [...]

Hi there, My name is Mat Hunsley and I’m a singer-songwriter based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. I’m a massive music fan and although I’d say I write alternative folk songs, I think it’s fair to say that my stuff is influenced by a variety of genres. Although currently writing songs for an acoustic guitar, I’m always looking for like-minded musicians that could help create a more dramatic and unique sound! This is hopefully only the very early days in my musical journey and, following some very kind feedback from a number of sources, there’ll hopefully be many [...]
My final post about Brazil - here are some of the other things I saw! A mouse scuttles out of a shop onto the footpath. Some girls shriek. A young man rushes out behind the mouse, chases it, stamps on it, and kicks it out into the road. "Ooh, couragi," coo the girls. A woman on the gay beach at Ipanema, determinedly chatting up every man she could find, with raucous laughter, coy glances and a huge bottle of wine. Muscle milk muscle growth supplement on the menu in a cafe. The [...]
Today I'll be at the MultiCultural Festival most of the day. We are having a Peace Corps table and taking turns passing out literature and answering any questions. The event opens with a parade of flags at 9:30, and I'll be there with the Ghanaian flag. All day long there will be performers from a variety of countries, an international cafe' and tables selling goods from other countries. I've been hankering for a bit of shopping, and this may be just the time. I have favorite countries and favorite places in other countries. Mind you, all of these [...]
In Brazil, passengers get on buses, say hello to the drivers and pay attendants before passing through little turnstiles. At one stop in Rio de Janeiro, an older woman boarded. Most likely in her late 60s, she wore chunky jewellery and a long tight black dress - very Shirley Bassey in warm weather . She caused quite a kerfuffle at the turnstile, holding up other passengers while she searched amongst her many handbags for money. Eventually, exasperated, she tossed several of the bags across the turnstile, hurtling them into an empty seat. [...]

After getting enough fun shoved down our throats this past year to qualify for best deepthroat scene at the AVN's, we now get a little new taste in our mouths with some fresh vocals and catchy melodies from everybody's favorite band of 2012. And what better time than in the new year and what better way than through a soundtrack for a show that also had a breakthrough year of its own. I'm talking of course about HBO's hit show Sex and the City part 2 Girls and the newly released [...]

Come celebrate 10 years of Seizures Palace Recording in Brooklyn while helping out some neighbors heavily affected by Hurricane Sandy... Seizures Palace was started in 2002 in the Old American Can Factory by Jason LaFarge. Albums recorded there include those by Swans, Khanate, Akron/Family, Chicha Libre, Mighty High, Angels of Light, Ovo, and many more. Civil Defense/Translator Audio/South Sound was a recording/rehearsal studio complex opened this year down the street from Seizures Palace by a collection of good people who really care and believe in what they are working toward. The surge from Hurricane Sandy completely flooded [...]
After "loving Australia" during her short trip to perform at the 2012 ARIA Awards , Taylor Swift was back in the States. The paper-chasing pop star was seen arriving at the Los Angeles International Airport on Friday (November 30) dressed in black skinny jeans and a red and black flannel. Despite the rainy weather, Tay sported wayfarer sunglasses as she exited the airport — we assume to ward off the camera flashes from the awaiting paparazzi. Do you think Taylor was looking fierce in flannel?

"I needed to just change everything, I needed this to be a clean slate," says Alison Sudol, the L.A. based songstress also known as A Fine Frenzy . For Sudol, "everything" meant her approach to songwriting, the scope of her musical vision and -- an important element to her fanbase -- the color of her hair. Still, we'd be hardpressed to imagine a more dramatic turn than the one embraced on her third album Pines (October 16, CD; Virgin). The sleek and supple melodic piano pop of Sudol's earlier works has been supplanted [...]
