I don't know if the correct term is "blessed," "graced," or "honored," but I felt all of the above when guest DJ Wyndham's funky mix landed in my inbox this month. I can think of no more fitting of a mix in light of Don Cornelius' recent passing. I know you all got soul, so be sure to enjoy these Super Low Prices. February 2012 Mix - "Super Low Prices" guest mix by DJ Wyndham 01 Paul Nero - This Is Soul (1970) [...]

Alex Chilton's death was the third musical hero of mine to pass away this year. His death following far too quickly on from those of Sparklehorses Mark Linkous and the pure song writing genius of Vic Chesnutt . I have spent the time since reading about Alex Chilton's death loading up on the Boxtops, Big Star and solo material. I first hear Chilton via the song "No Sex" which was released on a tape by a short lived UK music paper Underground in 1988 titled [...]
Today's collection of music I never got around to posting about last year is built on the theme of "indie pop." None of these tracks breaks any major barriers in sound or style. What they do offer is pop music you don't need to feel guilty about. Sleepwalker - The Sister Lovers This track occupies that nice space in between DIY and studio gloss. The layers of sound betray a certain degree of studio production values, but there's also a delightful looseness in it. You can pick up their [...]

Could "Sleep Walker" a track by Syracuse, New Yorkers THE SISTER LOVERS contains enough sugar to get the internets to catch on to the pop hooks? Is it sweet enough to cause some cavaties and major toothaches that regardless of the pain you'll still want some more? Well, either way "Sleep Walker" does [...]
This band may very well love your sister(s), but the odds of that being the case are rather slim. Indeed, your over-protective minds should be eased at the fact that the band derives their name from Alex Chilton/Big Star's renowned album Third/Sister Lovers . Of course my connection of the musical dots on this could also be heinous and subsequently incorrect, the six-person band may very well (still) share a collective infatuation with your sister. If that's the case then you should remind her to never get in a car with strangers, even if [...]
Number two in an possible series of dead techno musicians, today a few tunes from Caspar Pound. Caspar was one of the most influential people in the UK techno scene, responsible for Rising High records and bringing the Teutonic Harthouse label to UK shores. He unfortunately died a few years ago from complications related to an enlarged heart. I should point out my ignorance here as I'm not really aware of Ezra Pound, his ancestor although I would be kind of interested in hearing his music . Rising High - Magic Roundabout : [...]
