The Soft Hands have resurrected the twitch and punch of the '70s post-punk sound. They've more than resurrected it; they've bumped it up a notch or two. They're jumpier than XTC, snottier than Joe Jackson, more herky-jerky than the Talking Heads. Repeated listens may induce seizures, limb-flailing pogo dancing about the room at least. Suffering from restless leg syndrome? Get out from behind your desk and let The Soft Hands shake the wiggles out of you. www.fidotrust.com www.thesofthands.com

Today we have The Soft Hands out of Long Beach, CA. They have a surprisingly full sound for a three piece! Part Wire, part Costello, and part ADD, these guys know how to craft a dynamic song. Check "Harbor" below for a taste. The Soft Hands - Harbor The Soft Hands official site The Soft Hands on MySpace

It may have been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon, but it's been an exciting week (and not in a good way) at Speed of Dark. The story is still in progress, and I am in the process of deciding a plan of action, so I am not ready to tell it all here yet. Maybe one day. But there are big hints in some of the archived posts and little hints in particular elements of today's post, so you might guess the general issue. I've been spending a lot of time on blog business, [...]

New New New Times New Viking . You know the deal, heavy DRC compression (not data compression), splashes of white noise organ, short and sweet. They are Ohio's noisy ambassadors. They might break your speakers. Loud Downloadable: "Call And Respond" (matador mp3) The Stay Awake EP came out yesterday (but is not available on eMusic yet). They have some NYC dates coming up: Nov 7 @ Music Hall Of Williamsburg (I will be seeing Health ) Nov 8 @ Bowery Ballroom [...]

I just got my grubby mitts on the Soft Hands ' new album, Hours Pass By , that comes out next Tuesday, October 21st on the Long Beach label, Fidotrust Records . My previous experience with the band has been limited to a few mp3s I was able cull from the interwebs and a frighteningly good performance at The Prospector which I documented for the OC Weekly's Heard Mentality blog. It was in that review that I described their sound as a "hyperactive Talking Heads-meets-Wire" and correctly surmised the only three songs that I had [...]
