Stylistically, Saturday is immediately all but incomparable with that which preceded it a touch over twelve hours prior to. From thrash metal to trashy Italo disco-infused flamboyance, the creative pseudonym of Anton Maiof – Antoni Maiovvi – not only proves an elaborate persona equal parts James Murphy, Brett Anderson (that'll be the quasi-erotic striptease midway through in the middle of the floor) and David Brent but musically he constructs something of a DFA-designed one-man Soundsystem armed only with a reconfigured Wii remote. After a pair of lauded releases in 2010's self-titled LP + 2011's Total Decay EP, The Soft Moon are proud to announce their forthcoming second LP, Zeros, due this fall for the ever-reliable Captured... **Summary** Go to website for downloads, videos & more.
Name: The Soft Moon Progress Report: Luis Vasquez talks about the recording of the Soft Moon's forthcoming sophomore LP. The Soft Moon's 2010 self-titled debut was a thing of gothy delight - eleven tracks of spooky bedroom electronics that created such a powerful, singular vision - of something beautiful, harrowing, and more than a little frightening - that the album was able to transcend its obvious influences. 2011's follow up EP, Total Decay , pulled off a similar trick - creating dark soundscapes that sounded both alien and weirdly [...]

The Soft Moon recently released this new song, which features Luis Vasquez and company collaborating with John Foxx And The Maths , the new band from former Ultravox singer John Foxx. It's an expansive-sounding synth pop song, brighter than we're used to from The Soft Moon to be sure, but definitely worth checking out.
All day today, we're playing celebrating Robert Smith's (April 21) by playing your favorite songs by The Cure and other goth favorites. As a genre and a style, "goth" is pretty easy to stereotype (see The Damned's "Grimly Fiendish" for a particularly campy version), but the truth is its influence spreads far and wide. Goth is a thread that connects industrial bands like Einstürzende Neubauten to romantic new wavers like Gene Loves Jezebel (though you'd never find their fans in the same room!) through all manner of dark if not mopey music. Gathered here you'll find indisputable Goth pioneers like [...]

All Tomorrow's Parties has snagged itself yet another reunion. Joining the already-reunited Afghan Whigs at this year's "I'll Be Your Mirror" UK music festival will be Washington, DC post-punk genre-benders The Make-Up. Comprised of ex-Nation of Ulyssses members, The Make-Up disbanded in 2000 following the release of five studio albums. According to ATP's website, the band reunited at the request of the festival for an exclusive UK performance. Below, check out video of the band performing on French TV. Other new additions to the "I'll Be Your Mirror" bill include Kool Keith's Ultramagnetic MCs, [...]

Talk about appropriate – two of our favorite San Francisco bands will be sharing the stage at The New Parish in Oakland this Wednesday, February 1st, for a night of danceable post punk and new wave–inspired noise rock. The Soft Moon - "Total Decay" If you missed Luis Vasquez and his band at Du Nord a couple of weeks ago , here's your chance to check out The Soft Moon , along with Weekend to sweeten the deal. [...]

Last Thursday, January 19th, Captured Tracks showcased two of their West Coast bands, The Soft Moon and Blouse at Cafe du Nord . This was The Soft Moon's first performance with a live drummer, and they destroyed du Nord just the way they did last time , properly with strobes and blown out volumes. Blouse, a coy, bedroom pop-style band from Portland, was equally appreciated by the large crowd. It was quite a packed venue - one of those rare nights where on the way in through the [...]

E-mail contest[at]thebaybridged.com with your full name and the subject line "The Soft Moon + Blouse @ Cafe du Nord" and in the body of the email name the best color for a blouse. Our favorite answer wins a pair of tickets to Thursday night's show , which should be a killer night of 80s-inspired electro/New Wave over at du Nord. [...]

Along with a lot of excellent new EPs and singles, this year has seen the official release of Light Asylum 's In Tension , our favorite EP of 2010 . I should also mention Arthur Russell 's outstanding Let's Go Swimming 12", which got reissued with a previously unreleased bonus track. As for this year's releases, these are some of our favorites: Holy Other : With U Laurel Halo : Hour Logic Maria Minerva : Sacred [...]
