Usually bands change their name when faced with the threat of expensive legal woes, but The Soft Pack, formerly The Muslims, have offered no reason for recently changing their moniker, only stating on their website a few weeks back that, "WE HAVE CHANGED THE NAME OF OUR GROUP TO "THE SOFT PACK". Well, we're here. Much of the CoS team has reconvened in Chicago, and it's cold! Damn cold! We're talking in the negatives here, and no, it's not pleasant. The Christmas lights are all gone, the snow has an asphalt look to it, and the only thing resembling holiday cheer is the seclusive yet elated office worker who's finally seeing the outside world at 5:45 in the evening. Trotz auf der Hand liegender Verbindungen, haben die allerdings nichts am Hut mit den San Diego Hype-Garage-Rockern The Muslims. 2008 was a great year for good music and a pretty good year for great music. I kept expanding my list from 20 to 25 to 30, and then back down to 20 (sort of). Deciding what would be my #10 took forever. (The top #9 have been there for a while, with the order shuffling around till seconds from this posting.) And actually my Top 5 were as close as they've been in ages. Despite releasing one of my favorite LPs of last year (their gloriously bullet holed self titled album), the Muslims may have also won the award for worst band name.
