Filed under: Video , Exclusive , RPM Ruvan Wijesooriya At the top of Bird Peterson and Ocelot 's banging single 'Soul Survivor,' a voice-over tells us there has been "a real mean killing, and the wrong guy died." The luckless chap was buried, "but his soul survived." Right there, you've got the makings of a great horror flick, and when Ocelot went to shoot the video, that's precisely the direction they took. The [...]

Where does soul come from? Soul is hardship, the grind and struggle of the working man. Soul is persevering with love no matter what. Soul is trying keeping your lady happy however you can, no matter how much you suck at it. Daptone Recording artist Charles Bradley feels an artist caught in time, someone who's [...]
( email | facebook | twitter ) While researching a forthcoming piece, we came across this fractal imagining video. There's a nice description of the video production at the link - and we'll leave the tech talk to the math geeks - but this conclusion really stood out: "If you were actually traveling into the fractal, you would be moving faster than the speed of light." Oh, hell yeah. The video also features "Soul Survivor," by Solar Brothers, featuring Sherry Dyanne (Moog mix). Enjoy. It's [...]

The set is at 7:55PM on the Marina Stage and will also be broadcast on WXPN as part of the festival live broadcast. The Soul Survivors had a 1967 top five hit song with "Expressway To Your Heart." Timetable of the earth. Throwback : Buffalo Springfield - Mr. Soul (don lowed) -- Throwback : The Soul Survivors - Mama Soul (don lowed)

Shouts to Crate Kings on this bomb ass video. Pete Rock recently sat down with Zeke The Freak (Peter Parker's producer) to talk about how the whole Jay Stay Paid album came together, and how close he was to Dilla. He also talks about the new projects he is working on which include Petestrumentals 2 & a new Soul Survivor album. This is some truly great news, Pete is one of my favorite producers, and I can assure you that these projects are going to be ridiculous. Make sure you stay tuned [...]

When it comes to hip hop producers, it's hard to beat Pete Rock. His work with CL Smooth and a host of other great rappers has assured his status as one of the best who ever did it, and his own albums - both vocal and instrumental - weren't half bad either. When it comes to the self-styled Chocolate Boy Wonder's solo LPs, it's hard to go past his first effort, 1998's Soul Survivor . This diamond of a release featured a cast that's too lenghthy to name; if you haven't heard it, you're missing out. [...]
Inspired by my guest post today over at The Late Greats , here's a Philly music bonanza for you to check out. When The Duke asked me to pick my Philly 7 From '07, I couldn't just stop it at 7 and decided to take it to the limit. Worst Trip - Dr. Dog Dr. Dog myspace Ball of The Dead Rat - The Teeth [...]

(I asked Bruce to lend a hand this week...) I'm honored to have been invited by The Duke to contribute this edition of 7 from '07. Call it the New Sound of Philly. With so much incredible talent here in the City of Brotherly Love (and surrounding 'hoods) it's hard to just pick seven. But since that's the concept, I'm rolling like a river on it. So much talent, so little time. Worst Trip - Dr. Dog [...]
