by teepoo Sometimes I get so many submissions and good finds that I download them all and put them in a playlist on shuffle. Today this track just kept me rocking. It is by Toronto garage rock band The Speaking Tongues from their self-titled release earlier this October. Been posting a ton of electro-pop recently, but here's finally something to rock to! The Speaking Tongues- Karma Blues Bandcamp

The constant struggle for a band like The Speaking Tongues - a white hot, boogie heavy garage blues band from Toronto - to get their music heard and appreciated has to be frustrating. I know there is a Canadian rock n roll revival/blues scene , but there aren't many people writing about it and the kilometres between stops makes it damn near impossible for a band to build a devout fan base with constant gigging. The sad reality is that even when a band smokes, they need to be down south [...]
I'm going to see the Rural Alberta Advantage on Thursday at the Horseshoe---with more than 50 of my friends, apparently. This will be their CD release for Hometowns, an album they put out independently in early 2008, but have no re-released properly on Saddle Creek. Supporting acts that night are Hooded Fang and a newer band called The Wilderness of Manitoba, all from right here in Toronto. Promises to be a great night, and will likely be a sold out, so get your ticket soon! Advance tickets are on sale for $12 at Soundscapes, Rotate This, the Horseshoe front bar, [...]

So if we were going with one of those RIYL tags, it would include all the bands you see mentioned above, or I could just say – recommended if you ARE ninebullets.net ~ Herohill Funny thing about spending years putting all of your musical thoughts on the web for anyone to see is that after a while anyone paying attention gets to know your musical tastes as well as you do. So, when Herohill dropped the above line at the end of his writeup about Little Foot [...]

The other night I was about 4 whiskey and gingers into the evening and I was thinking about ninebullets. Really, I was thinking about how long it had been since I wrote about some down and dirty primal blues on here. I mean, I know I posted the Left Lane Cruiser set from Deep Blues a few weeks back, but I post about LLC at least once a month so I was thinking about something fresh, something we ain't heard before. Then, like the swamp blues god knew what we needed, I reached into my big box of 'shit I [...]

web site :: myspace :: facebook Hell yeah. That's all I really need to say about Toronto's The Speaking Tongues . The hill likes to keep it Canadian, but I'm always super excited when anything from Alive/Naturalsound s or Fat Possum shows up in the old mailbox. While Canada brings the folk, rock and electro for your auditory pleasure, we don't really have a big collection of sludgy, boogie-woogie, balls-to-the-wall garage/blues acts ( Pack AD , please ignore the previous statement) and normally I fill that void with [...]
