Jemal Countess, Getty Although he hasn't had a constellation named after him, Lou Reed has joined the late Frank Zappa and Neil Young as rock stars who have had newly discovered spiders named after them. When Kirsty Almeida says "I think it's time for music with real soul" it becomes clear she's got more on her mind than even the most richly organic funky backbeat (though she's got that down, too). The much-buzzed performing songwriter's mindbendingly artful 2010 debut album Pure Blue Green -- being rereleased independently in late May with the original title DejaVoodu -- is a showcase of both style and substance, a rare potpourri of cross genre mashups that embrace hard gospel edges, brassy jazz stomps, slinky funk beats, breathy [...]

The Burlington is a one, dark venue. Aside from the soundboard and the bar in the back, the only lights came in the form of green and reddish orange, emanating from the stage itself. Shadows danced across the wall behind the stage in a creepy fashion as assorted band members from Mind Spiders and their openers, Magic Milk , flailed about with their designated instruments. A somewhat spooky scene for what was an aggressive yet fun set from each band. In a space as small as The Burlington's, a [...]

Mind Spiders are a bit out there, with wild synth-based music that conjoins 60s pop sensibilities with heavy late 70s garage rock. Their video for "Wait For Us" is similarly out there, the premise being "A reclusive man sends a distress beacon to catch his ticket off an abandoned planet" . Featuring a two-minute drone intro by Mark Ryan (who also stars in the band and in the film as "Spaceman 13) before launching into the song. It's definitely worth a watch and has a nice little twist toward the end that should not be all [...]
Out of all phobias, I believe that the one concerning spiders is simultaneously the most popular and the most justified. I believe that the fear of spiders was first boosted by the release of 1990's Arachnophobia, and will be further bolstered with the release of Camel Spiders. Roger Corman is the producer here, and a [...]
"A reclusive man sends a distress beacon to catch his ticket off an abandoned planet," reads the plot synopsis of Texas garage ensemble Mind Spiders' video for "Wait For Us," which is pretty much the best, eeriest possible jump-off for a sci-fi-tinged clip. The set is MST3K -like in it's clever, homemade fashion, where performance footage is spliced with a tale of astronaut intrigue and escape. Jason Reimer directs. Watch it below. Read More...

Mind Spiders - On The Radio Mind Spiders - Fall In Line I've been listening to the nostalgic yet fresh and fantastic lo-fi garage rock goodness on Meltdown for a few days now, and this lil' baby's got me drooling all over its booming guitar hooks and swirly sci-fi synths and surf-rock swing (that's best listened to while hopped-up on goofballs and bouncing off the walls), so turn up the volume and put this thing on repeat, ok kiddos? [...]

Texan psychedelic garage band Mind Spiders have recently released their new album 'Meltdown' and taken from it is free track 'Wait For Us'.

Mind Spiders made a splash with their fast, punchy, self-titled debut LP last year. On Meltdown, out tomorrow (February 21, via Dirtnap Records), the two-drummer Fort Worth, Texas-based outfit stray from their previous dedication to ADHD tempos, turning up the low-fi a half-notch and falling into a solid, head-bopping (rather than viciously banging) groove. Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars It's always good to know that a rocker never dies. Mark Ryan's one such dude, giving it his all in the past with the Marked Men ; now he's refueled his passion with Mind Spiders . Meltdown is the group's second album in less than a year, and their latest release for Dirtnap Records has them picking up precisely where they left off-and now with more drums! On the [...]

Mark Ryan's musical claim to fame is as the frontman of the Texas pop-punk group The Marked Men. In recent years, though, Ryan's explored more bizarre musical fare with his solo project Mind Spiders . The outfit released its self-titled debut back in March 2011, creating a sound that combined '50s pop, kraut rock, garage rock, and sci-fi soundtracks into a truly otherworldly musical experience. On February 28th, Mind Spiders' second LP, Meltdown , will hit stores via Dirtnap Records. Its latest single, "On the Radio", is another mutated specimen of Ryan's fusion-heavy musical style. Though [...]

Mind Spiders Meltdown Dirtnap Records [2012] Fire Note Says: Mind Spiders return on sophomore record with a full band and lots of cool ideas! Album Review: Meltdown is the second album from Mark Ryan's (Marked Men, High Tension Wires) Mind Spiders and it comes at you just 13 months after the groups self-titled debut. The sound here remains similar as Meltdown once [...]

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 One band I've consistently championed the past few years has been Mind Spiders. The Denton-based act is lead by Mark Ryan, who is also in The Marked Men and High Tension Wires. Mind Spiders started as Ryan's solo project and quickly gained national attention when he released a four track EP in 2010. Last year he followed the EP up with a self-titled full length, which ended up being my favorite album of 2011. Needless to say I was very [...]

Fresh off of my Top 10 LPs of 2011, and about a year since their previous (and excellent) debut, Denton TX's Mind Spiders , are releasing their follow-up, Meltdown on February 21st via the great Dirtnap . I'm already of the early opinion that this is going to be one of the best albums of 2012. I said the exact same thing last year (and it came true! ). Check the first cut Wait For Us below: mp3: [...]

Mind Spiders - Wait for Us [Right click for download]

Wait For Us Mind Spiders Theme ( previously on CWR) Some great news today! Early last year Texas' Mind Spiders released their solid, self-titled debut LP of pop-inflected garage tunes, which got a lot of love around here and on the radio stream. The boys have clearly kept themselves busy because they've just announced the release of their second LP, Meltdown , from Dirtnap Records on February 21. Check out 'Wait For Us,' which will be on [...]
