Another Friday is here and it's a winner. Pasta Primavera will be in full swing up at Terminal 5 in NYC for Superdrag and Nada Surf, but there are some great shows around town also. In Baltimore Sonar has Spoon, The White Rabbits, and The Walkmen, while the Ottobar has Slick Rick with a full backing band! In DC the 9:30 club has Hot Chip and Free Blood, and The Rock and Roll Hotel has VHS or BETA and Tigercity. In Philly Johnny Brenda's has BC Camplight, The Swimmers, and The Capitol Years, The Fire [...]

The People to Get Excited About if You're Going to SXSW But Would Like Anyway Even if You Weren't Going Mix You're probably wondering what the hell all those letters mean. Considering the almighty list for SXSW was released a few weeks ago, there's been quite a bit of material that I could have covered. Operative phrase there being "could have." Undoubtedly, it's a gargantuan amount and the time I've had lately has been minuscule. All right! I've been lazy. Regardless, when situations like this arise, a blogger's [...]
I might not be able to make it to this but wish I could. I'm pretty sure this show will completely kick ass. The new Whigs album is great, plus you get Wax Fang as an added bonus. Both these bands for the price of a Spicy Chicken Value meal from Wendy's?! Act now, and they'll even throw in The Spinto Band at no extra charge. (Honey Mustard is 15 cents extra) The Whigs will also be opening for My Morning Jacket and Yo La Tengo on March 13th @ SXSW. Tickets: [...]
The Spinto Band are from Delaware and have been making music since 1998. They have an infectious sound reminiscent of The Shins mixed with a little of The Flaming Lips. They just finished recording Moonwink , but have yet to announce a release date. I'm sure they will be trying out their new material during SXSW. They have toured with Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, Art Brut, and We Are Scientists. They are currently on tour with The Whigs . Oh Mandy-mp3 [...]

>> Un . Be . Lievable . Philly-based '80s rockers The Hooters released a new record, Time Stand Still , this week. It looks like you can stream most of it at the band's MySpace dojo here (we didn't think we'd ever type the words "Hooters" and "MySpace" in the same sentence), which we just did. We don't hear pop hits, but the set has an easy folk-rock vibe with the expected but not overpowering religious references. There was a year back there in the '80s when the quintet was bigger than big. We [...]
The Spinto Band are in the wake of completing their eighth album, Moonwink . The band will be embarking on a spring tour with The Whigs. They will be playing shows on the east coast and working their way down to Austin to play SXSW. Moonwink was produced by Dave Trumfio and mixed by Tchad Blake. No official release date has been set at this point (that I could find anyhow), but the band hopes for a spring release. [...]

There are two shows worth mentioning going on tonight. If you missed A Sunny Day In Glasgow last night at the Lo-Fi, you check them out tonight at the Velvet Lounge in DC along with Screen Vinyl Image, The Offering, and Twin Earth. Also if you missed The Spinto band at the 8x10 on Thursday, you can check them out tonight in Philly at Johnny Brenda's with The Whigs and Plants and Animals. Sweet. mp3: A Sunny Day In Glasgow - Best Summer Ever --> [...]

Thao with The Get Down Stay Down The long week and even longer month are just about over. There also happens to be several great shows tonight that will allow you to send them out in style. 8x10 Club The Whigs - Right Hand On My Heart The Spinto Band - Oh Mandy Plants and Animals - Faerie Dance IOTA Thao with The Get Down Stay Down (CD [...]

photo courtesy of rdonnell It was a quieter year for The Spinto Band . However, it was only quiet in relation to their previous years of relentless globe trekking as they played hundreds of shows. This summer, they took a break from the road to spend some time in L.A. recording the follow-up to their endlessly catchy 2005 pop album, Nice and Nicely Done . According to their website, the album is in the mixing stage but no specific release date has been [...]
I cannot tell a lie; this is not my favorite Mayer tune. Having said that though, I gotta say that the sentiment behind it just knocks me out. I'm long on two things...legs and words. Ironically my Grandfather happens to be a man of very few of the latter. He's been very sick for a very long time and as we near the twilight of his time here with us in the physical world I've been helping

Okay FIRST OFF -- Go to SUGARTOWN tonight -- I'm spinning! It will be funnnn (all the info is in that link & in the post below this one). ************************* Yesterday I met a friend for lunch at Tiny's in the L.E.S then we wandered around the rainy streets of Nolita, bitching about how we couldn't afford any of the ridiculously overpriced items at the fancy boutiques blah blah blah, we stumbled upon a bright yellow storefront bearing the words: HOW [...]

It's no joke. I love indie bands... for realz. For really realz. I can't really stand listening to the stuff that I dj. I mean, I like it but man... you can't listen to that at home. No way. There is a butt load of stuff that I really like and these are four bands. I just like chilling out. That's what I do best. And there's nothing like dancing to this music. No Justice / Trash Yourself / Guns'n'Bombs / Toxic Avenger can touch this raw shit. Fo sho. I know that I don't do a good [...]

Many apologies for the lack of posts over the past week, as the move to a new host just dampened any kind of motivation I had to post. At least I got The Daily Graboid up, since that week was pretty significant and I didn't want to pass that one up. So yeah, Monday will be back to normal and hopefully everything will start to run a lot more smoothly now. If you look above at the header image, you'll notice that there are new graphics in place of that old piece of the [...]

This is sort of a huge post. It'll take you a while to go through it, and it took me even longer to compile it. No regrets, though. This was definitely a labour of love. I've recently taken to perusing the amazing Daytrotter archives, listening to the sessions that many, many fantastic artists have recorded. Here are a few of my favourite tracks from a few of my favourite artists, in no particular order. I purposely picked only one song from each session, so that you'd almost have to follow the link back to Daytrotter and [...]

What You Can And Can Not Do by Tess Lynch I used to take the train from Wassaic, Connecticut to Grand Central once a week or so. Occasionally I'd try to transfer trains at Brewster North Station (which has since been renamed to something else, which I can't seem to remember) when I was supposed to stay on the train I'd initially gotten on, and I'd be stuck on the platform for two hours waiting for the next connection. If I had been [...]

© Inés Ruiz Fragen die Popnutten . Daytrotter Sessions hat die Besten zu Gast. Alte Freunde, wie "The long winters" , neue und bisher unveröffentlichte Lieder von "The Spinto Band" . Wobei ich mich noch immer frage, warum die naive Eleganz eines "Oh, Mandy" den Jungs noch immer nicht zu permanentem Sommer-Radiogedudel verholfen hat... Und das die beste Musik im Netz bei You ain't no Picasso läuft, weiss längst jedes Kind. MP3: The Long Winters / Scared Straight MP3: [...]
