photo by Morgen Schuler Hey Marseilles opened the day up on the main stage with a great set of Seattle's favorites. Their vast instrumentation and soaring melodies drew a large crowd for a show so early in the day. As always, their songs sounded fantastic. photo by Morgen Schuler photo by Morgen Schuler photo by Morgen Schuler photo by Morgen Schuler [...]
On a beautiful Friday evening, Bon Iver rolled into Burnaby's Deer Lake Park, performing for the 10,000 or so people who had shown up to see the Wisconsin band fronted by Justin Vernon. Set... Read the rest on Speakerboxxx.com
Bushmills Live , which takes place at the Old Bushmills Distillery in Northern Ireland June 20th and 21st, just got more exciting with the addition of Benjamin Francis Leftwich , Marcus Foster , The Staves , General Fiasco and David C Clements to the line-up. We've had so much music invade our iTunes library recently that absorbing it alone has been a considerable challenge. Whilst you can expect some more detailed posts in the coming week on our choice picks from the influx, we thought we'd do a quick(ish) run down on a handful of tracks we've had on repeat. We'd suggest you press play on the following: 1. Bullion - It's All In Sound Having established himself via the 'Pet Sounds: In The Key Of Dee' mixtape which put The Beach Boys ' seminal LP head to [...]

If you asked me after watching The Staves perform for the first time what I thought, I'd simply say their three Laura Marling's for the price of one, which is surely not a bad thing at all. The harmonic sisterly outfit have released a compilation of older material which also includes their latest Ep, ' The Mother Lode ' for a full stream. Quite fitting for the gloomy mood and wet weather here in the city today. Press play and and let the Staveley-Taylor sisters be your soundtrack for the morning.

It was with an open mind and one clog firmly on the accelerator that I journeyed with Big Sair yesterday evening to watch The Staves at the rather wonderful venue of The Tabernacle in London's Notting Hill. What I might call, I decided on reflection, the perfect Mrs Mackerel gig destination. A good start. And we even made it in time. The Staves are three sisters – Emily, Camilla and Jessica – who hail from Watford. And their star is most definitely in the ascendant, with a growing reputation [...]

More trains this week, but this time I'm on one. The 12.06 from Oxford to be precise, wending it's way slowly northwards, leaving MM in charge of the home fixtures. I'll be stopping off at Darlo to check in with Harry, before docking in the land of MON to see my Ma. It's a bit packed underneath my wing at the moment. It might be Friday, but the cat seems to have gotten my tongue, or has a weasel stolen my words? They've gone somewhere looking for some light relief, anyway. Mrs Mackerel x A [...]

Sundance London (02 Arena, 26-29 April '12) // Words: Saam Das The widely acclaimed Sundance Festival makes its first appearance outside of its Utah home when it comes to London's O2 Arena this week. Bringing us a selection of features and shorts from American independent cinema as well as special musical performances and events, we're very excited to welcome Robert Redford and company to London. I've chosen a handful of films and musical events to recommend below. [...]

If we were curating the stage at a music festival The Staves are probably the band we'd choose for the early Sunday afternoon opening slot – that moment when (hopefully) tired punished bodies are basking in the sun, when everyone is beginning to wonder how they're going to keep going for another day. Their music is just the tonic – soothing, melodious and pretty much perfect. Last month we featured the title track from the three singing sisters [...]
"The Motherlode" comes to us as the title track from the new EP released today in the U.K. by Brit sibling nu-folk trio of The Staves -- Emily, Jessica and Camilla. What we have described as the sisters' "sublime harmony" is again front and center on the new tracks, the forerunners of a new fall full-length produced by the father and son team of producers Glyn and Ethan Johns. Look for The Staves this spring as they open for Bon Iver on their American tour. More DC on The Staves and The Motherlode [...]
Words // Adam Sharp 'I Don't Know Where I Was Going With This'- Canasta It's not often an opener can silence a hyped up crowd, though it's not often the opener comes armed with a song like this. The mecca of the current rootsy resurgance here in the UK is Ben Lovett's Communion label. When he's not stamping his feet and playing keys with his paymasters - that little-known group called Mumford & Sons - Lovett has welcomed artists such as Michael Kiwanuka, Ben Howard, The Staves, Gotye, Daughter and To Kill a King into its bossom. Rightly so then, when the label recently decamped to SXSW it was seen as a hub of all things acousticy and beardy. It was to be expected that these lot would, at some point, burst into song together and [...]
The Staves are set to release their new Ep ' The Motherlode ' on April 22nd which will be a nice appetizer until we can get a full length project hopefully later this year. If you have yet to see a show from the sisterly trio, let us be the first to highly suggest you do. You can view the first offering and self titled single above.

While the catchphrase of most returning SXSW ers to newbies is "pace yourself", mine would be "be sure to factor in some downtime". And "don't apologise to yourself if your body says to go home". Before I went to see the Burning Ear showcase on Wednesday afternoon , I stopped into B.D. Riley's (not knowing I'd return for an interview on Friday , then later for the Music for Ireland showcase ) for a lazy pint of Harp and a plate of fish and chips. Sometimes I regret not [...]

UK sibling trio The Staves are excited to announce they will be supporting Bon Iver on the band's upcoming North American tour. The dates kick off in Edmonton, Canada on May 21st and conclude in Alpharetta, Georgia on June 8th. The Staves will also appear at Sasquatch Festival on May 27th. The Staves have caught the attention of many new U.S. fans and critics this year, having already supported The Civil Wars in January, and recently concluding Communion's 'Austin to ...

Austin, TX - Nestled between the adrenaline-crazed beast that is 6th street and the increasingly popular Central Presbyterian Church, St. David's Episcopal Church feels like an oasis for the sedentary and sane-minded. On this night at least, it was indeed the much more muted second cousin to the Presbyterian, where legions came out for Fiona Apple. In contrast, I had to inquire about the venue even after I got to St. David's because the typical trail of shoe-gazing concert-goers were nowhere to be seen. I was initially apprehensive - surely the multitudes cannot have missed a good show, and so by extrapolation I [...]
