The Steeldrivers blend blues and bluegrass for a thoroughly distinct sound.
"If It Hadn't Been for Love" strips things uncharacteristically far back, but it's a knockout all the same.

adele - if it hadn't been for love (steeldrivers cover)(rolling in the deep b-side) [with adele's album on the cusp of release, check out her amazing rendition of the bluegrass band steeldrivers' 'if it hadn't been for love'. officially the b-side to 'rolling in the deep', this only whets the appetite for fans waiting to hear her new album. want more? msn recently went to adele's home to hear her own personal breakdown of key tracks before performing the song. this is her explanation of the 2nd single 'someone like you' and as usual, she is amazing.] [...]

While Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" has been available for the past month on iTunes, the physical CD single doesn't come out in the UK until this coming Monday (January 17). And on it sits the bluesy, acoustic B-side "If It Hadn't Been For Love," which you can hear below. "If It Hadn't Been For Love" is a cover of a song by Nashville bluegrass act The SteelDrivers, from their 2008 self-titled LP. And given the new material we've heard so far from Adele, this is quite a different number than [...]
*First off... I want to say how excited I am to have my blog featured in The Metro Pulse this week. The Metro Pulse is Knoxville's weekly free news magazine focusing on local news and issues with a strong focus on arts and entertainment in our city. This week's cover story is about local blogs and bloggers. I was fortunate enough that A Fifty Cent Lighter & A Whiskey Buzz was one of the blogs mentioned. Those of you in Knoxville know where to pick [...]

Oh yeah! Sorry for the 2 month furlow. I missed a month for the ninebullets.net 4th Anniversary Party (which was way awesome!) and I missed a month based on total I dunno. Honestly, I'd planned to do an October podcast but the month just kind of got away from me. Not that any of that shit matters now. It's November, turkey day is around the corner and the podcast is back so let's talk about it.... The November show features a really drunk me (can you [...]

Our good buddy Adam Fenwick is checking in again with another guest piece. Beating me to the punch he's written a piece about the excellent new Steeldrivers album, Reckless. Give it a read and pick this album up, it's that good. When it was announced some time ago that Chris Stapleton would be leaving The Steeldrivers to concentrate on his writing and spend more time with his family, I was concerned that his last record with the band, Reckless, would serve as a funeral [...]
![The SteelDrivers – Reckless [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2803854_lg.jpg)
The SteelDrivers are a band created by Nashville session veterans, including Richard Bailey (banjo), Mike Fleming (upright bass), Mike Henderson (mandolin), Tammy Rogers (fiddle), and Chris Stapleton (guitar, lead vox). Although labeled as Bluegrass, Chris Stapleton's voice is full of back woods soul, crossing their sound into Blues and Outlaw Country territory. Reckless is an album I wish I had in college where most weekend evenings at our house were spent at a card table with a half-gallon of Jim Beam and a tin of Kodiak. While others on campus were listening to O.A.R and [...]

It's been a while since I've thrown out a notes column. So... Here we go. *** First. Don't forget to register for the Mary Gauthier giveaway contest. I've had a nice response so far, but would still like to see more people register. Leave a comment here, send me an email, or comment on the blog's facebook page to enter. *** I never really listened much (or at all) to [...]

This is something I've known for a while now, but I've been waiting for the band to make an official announcement. Chris Stapleton (middle above) is leaving The Steeldrivers to focus on his songwriting and his family. The official announcement was made last week ( I just saw it today ). The good news is that The Steeldrivers have already recorded their follow up to 2008's Grammy nominated self titled debut album , and Chris does provide vocals for that album. [...]

I do like a little bit of bluegrass in the mix and one of my favourite albums in the genre is the self titled release from The Steeldrivers - so it was with a tinge of disappointment that I read recently that Chris Stapleton has decided to leave the band and concentrate on his song-writing, loved his singing on that record, a replacement has already been found and announced it will certainly be a difficult pair of boots to fill as Stapleton was a distinct talent. Here's a bootleg six-pack from [...]
Yesterday, I introduced you to this year's nominees for "Best New & Emerging Artist" at this year's Americana Music Awards & Honors. Today, I'll share with you the artist who won the award last year... Mike Farris. ...and the artist I think should have won... The Steeldrivers.

This is a HUGE musical weekend in Knoxville, and I'll tell you all about it... but first... *** I want to start off this post by wishing a Happy Anniversary to Steve Earle and Allison Moorer. The Americana power couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary on Tuesday. I still remember when I first heard the rumours that the two were becoming involved with each other. In fact, I think I probably had the info a little sooner than most outside observers. I got the scoop from my [...]

My only visit to the "Bluegrass State" was on a whim. Joanne and I went to Tennessee last year on our honeymoon. Before we left Jo read about the Wigwam Village motel in Cave City, KY. The opportunity to stay in a concrete tepee built in 1937 for just $50 a night was all the incentive we needed to make the 100 mile drive north from Nashville. The motel had seen better days and for a state famous for its whiskey it was disappointing to discover that you couldn't buy booze in the appropriately [...]

The other night I was sifting through my dvd collection (I am preparing to sell it all) when I found a cd that must have fallen off the "to listen to" stack and gotten kicked under the bench seat where my dvd's are stored. That cd was Puritan Rodeo's 2008 effort The Magic Suit Ball . Feeling bad that the cd had been lost for so long (it's street date was May of '08), I immediately put it in my car cd player and you know what....it's pretty fucking good. It's like a mashup of, [...]

The Steeldrivers: Midnight Train To Memphis [ purchase ] I was blown away by The Steeldrivers at last winter's Joe Val Bluegrass festival . The combination of solid Grammy-winning bluegrass session players and Chris Stapleton's incredibly torn R & B vocals and songwriting bring a whole new life to the genre, and even with a major flu running through the band, their energy onstage was unrivaled by anything I've seen then or since, period. I'm not the only one to have [...]
