Goodnight, Texas is the side project of The Stone Foxes Avi Vincour and North Carolina based Patrick Dyer Wolf. And it sounds like the best parts of Texas.

In Chicago, we have the popular and often elusive "Holiday Train", where an entire train is decked and trimmed top to bottom with Christmas decor, red & green lights, elven attendants, and an actual guy dressed as Santa riding on the outside of the train (bless him). Christmas music plays from the speakers and its filled with kids, parents, and unsuspecting commuters like myself who are just a little too claustrophobic to feel any of it's supposed cheer. This week is like the Holiday Train of Mp3s, and it's the last one for the here. Here's 10 tracks ready to replace Michael Buble [...]
A packed house on a Tuesday night with The Stone Foxes.

Last night, The Stone Foxes returned to their native San Francisco and headlined one of the city's smallest, yet notorious venues, the Independent. The band's 75-minute set was filled with muddy blues, hard riffs, and pounding drums that would have made Robert Johnson bawl like a baby at the crossroads. For one, the whole band sings, adding a number of stylistic differences to their bluesy roots. Drummer Shannon Koehler is a madman onstage, banging away but also taking breaks to sing, play harmonica, and thrash around like Henry Rollins in 1982. His brother, guitarist Spencer Koehler, along with [...]

Advanced tickets are currently available for $7 via Southpaw . Stay tuned for additional goodies and [...]

IVAN: Uncharacteristically clear skies heralded the second day of Outside Lands. Ana Tijoux IVAN: Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux made up for the previous night's lack of hip-hop satisfaction. Taking the stage with a band and DJ, her set combined jazzy, sample-laden grooves recalling Do You Want More?!!!??!-era Roots with a constant yet smooth flow akin to a Ghostface Killah. Rapping mostly in Spanish save for a brief English freestyle, Tijoux alternated from hard-hitting socio-political conscious rhymes like Suve to laid-back [...]

Autumn nears and so do my qualms about winter. Needless to say, it always seems like the best music and film arrives during the last one-third of the year. Award considerations aside, one gets the hunch artists want to end the year on a positive note rather than one of nothingness. A looming uncertainty can [...]

If there's anything we here at CoS love, it's getting filthy and listening to great music. That explains our deep adoration of San Francisco's Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival . And for the fourth installment of the fiesta, we went all out in our coverage. From a ticket giveaway and a survival guide to the piece de resistance that is the actual review , there wasn't a moment of the fest that everyone couldn't live through like they themselves were caked in mud and feeling the vibes live from Golden Gate [...]
We take a look at several up-and-coming acts from this year's Outside Lands that may have been overshadowed by headliners like Arcade Fire and Phish. Their reputations for infectious and enthusiastic live performances is what earned them their time on stage, and also the reason for their surges in exposure after the festival ended less than two weeks ago. Look inside for audio clips.

In the 1960s, San Francisco certainly seemed like the place to be. The hippie counterculture movement of that period, specifically in this city, is something that's popular among historians, musicians, politicians, travelers, ramblers, and all in-between. And that's not a surprise… it was a pretty radical time. Many people today often talk about wishing they could time travel to the '60s to spend a day with Jerry Garcia and Janis Joplin. Maybe I've just been hanging around too many hippies lately. Outside Lands marked its fourth year by showing that after all this time, San [...]
Ah, Outside Lands 2011 . Pending consistent weather (looks like it'll be solid San Francisco summer weather - gray and cold), it should be a blast. At least I know I'll be well-prepared. Meanwhile, all my friends have been asking two questions: 1) are you going? and 2) who are you most excited to see? Frankly, I hadn't looked closely at the lineup until late last night. I knew some of the major bands I wanted to see: The Shins, Arcade Fire, Ellie Goulding, and Deadmau5. But what about all the little bands that people [...]
