Comin' atcha first thing every Monday morning, it's The Pony Track, a super-fantastic short distance dedication to BadmintonStamps Collective founding member and internationally renowned symbol for musical excellence Aaron "Pony" Child. No fancy links, no clever write-ups, 'cause these awesome songs don't need no splainin'. So c'mon, ride the pony!
February 29 only happens once every four years, so I decided to do something special for my weekly Friday mix. In addition to my normal new indie mix, I decided to add an all hip-hop one. Both consist of the normal 10 songs. I asked Joe to help me out and he came up with a 9 track classic indie mix to round everything out to 29 songs. So here are 3 in 1 post. Have a great weekend. Part I: Indie Fionn Regan - Be Good Or [...]

Fire Alarm, Twin Peaks 2008 I've started to reorganize my music collection, mainly cd's and vinyl. Since I've bought albums over and over again, or spent days looking for a particular album, a reorg was long overdue. Going through some of my vinyl, I've ripped them to my computer, crackles and all. I think that's part of the charm of vinyl, besides the overall warmth of the sound. Some news out there that an Arrested Development movie may be on the horizon. I'm not the biggest fan of TV, but Conan O'Brien may [...]

I don't like Mike Huckabee. I think he's a total doofus, and it's a sad comment on the state of American politics that he rose as prominently and easily as he did. That said, you can't let a tagline as devastating as this one go by without comment. On his recent Michigan ads, he closes saying: "I approved this message because I believe most Americans want the next president to remind them of the guy they work with, not the guy who laid them off." Oh, snap! Mitt Romney, you just got PWNED. [...]

A loosely themed Happy Mondays post today then, for no reason other than the final track listed today was going through my head. Owing to it's general dreadfulness it's a surprise that I'm not driven half mental by it and talking to myself. Or writing for an audience beyond the fourth wall. Oh. Diana Brown & Barrie K. Sharpe - Sunworshippers(Steve Anderson remix) : Discogs has this listed as The Eye of Heaven, not Sun Worshippers, so I'm not entirely certain what track this is. Steve Anderson is/was a DMC remixer, and is possibly better known [...]
I'm actually early posting this week's mix. Mostly because I'm doing an extra radio show tomorrow-9:30 PM EST at bsrlive.com if you care-and probably won't have time to do this then. The mix mostly sprung from the Stone Roses track because I was reading the chapter about them in the 33 1/3 anthology that came out last fall. Also on this mix: lots of other English men, an original version of a song made popular by the Lemonheads, a cheesy 80's saxophone, and what may be the single silliest song to have [...]

Last night I sat down on the couch with the new Rolling Stone (and their interview with my thoroughly- beloved Cormac McCarthy) and watched two very interesting BBC America documentaries. The first was called My Small Breasts and I , followed by My Big Breasts and Me . Yep, boobs. Both of them were fascinating inquiries into how a) we always want what we ain't got and b) bigger is not always better (I must say, I ran with a new sense of gratitude at the gym today). I mention breasts not only to watch [...]
A couple of requested tracks, a few things I've found while digging and some previously posted items that I think may merit some interest. All this and more on a not particularly festive Audio.Out. For Brian, who is the first person to call me bigman in an age. I must admit some ignorance with the Awesome 3 track, but DJ H featuring Stefy is an old track I remember well that I would have been hard pushed to name. DJ H featuring Stefy - Think About . Awesome 3 - Hard Up(Hard [...]
Check out a legendary performance of 'Fools Gold' (circa 1989) in the clip below. MP3: The Stone Roses - This Is The One [ alt link ]
It's to the credit of the Stone Roses debut that no matter what tinkering is done to its faultless tunes through the endless remixes and mash ups over the years that the soul of the original songs still manage to shine through. That's not to say that all of the cut and paste jobs have been disasters. Just last year Sam Flanagan took 'Waterfall' and ingeniously spiced it with Lily Allen's 'LDN'.
As I study for yet another Physics test (which is also causing me to miss the Pela show in DC on Saturday), I forgot that I needed to give you all some great music. Here you are. Enjoy... and wish me luck! The Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored Apostle of Hustle - National Anthem of Nowhere Citizen Cope - Pablo Picasso Beirut - Forks and Knives (La Fete) Ghostland Observatory - Silver City Yeasayer - Sunrise Interpol [...]

Britain in the mid-90s was a chaotic, creative, music-centric place to be. As Thatcher's tenure as PM ended and a fresh start began under Tony Blair and the New Labour party, there was a simultaneous crackle and thrum of musical vibrancy that is explored in the 2003 documentary Live Forever (by filmmaker John Dower ). On the surface it's the story of the music, the "Britpop sound" and those who made it, but it also tries to get deeper underneath to look at the society at that moment and what fed [...]

My desk looked like a florist shop today (not that I'm complaining) due to the lovely, beautiful flowers that I received from my two bosses and my best friend...thank you all so much!! Continuing my journey through thirty years of music... 1987: This is the year when I discovered teenage moping was all the rage, and I think I became more aware of music. I remember going to sleep with headphones on, spending time and money in the local record shop, being glued to the videos on MTV, and pestering my mother to let me attend [...]

The legendary Tony Wilson has died at the age of 57. Nearly singularly responsible for the baggy pants Madchester music scene of the late 80's, it was perhaps the second most significant musical & cultural movement in the UK since Beatlemania. Wilson's legacy includes the founding of Factory Records, the Hacienda niteclub in Manchester, and managing and nurturing the careers of many bands including Joy Division, Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses and many others. Wilson died of a heart attack and had been battling cancer. Here's [...]

My friend Brad e-mailed me on Friday afternoon with a short and to-the-point little message. "You and Paul need to take a break from each other." Well, despite the fact that "Off the Ground" week sent my bandwidth through the roof, it seems not EVERYBODY was so apt to get into the world of Paul McCartney rarities. But it's a new week and almost a new month, and with June passing so quickly and "Off the Ground" week taking up such considerable time, I almost completely forgot about the last of my monthly series due up [...]
