Natas Kapaus is a skateboard legend and this part from the 1980's is what catapulted the possibilities of skateboarding into the heavens.

Dead Ghosts poster by Ben Lyon We could make a clever quip about web sensation Rebecca Black's amusing teen jam "Friday," but Loud Loop Press doesn't care about that. We care about alerting you to the most kick-ass shows this weekend has to offer. Plus we totally couldn't think of any. I mean, it's Friday afternoon. We're half-way out the door already. Anyway, we've got the goods this week with some familiar and not-so-familiar faces. There's White Mystery at the Double Door; Streets on Fire at the Viaduct; Darling at the Hideout and much, [...]

The Sweeps at the Double Door | photo By Audrey Leon Even though all the bands were local, the crowd buzzed with anticipation before the show kicked off last Friday night at the Double Door. While the night was proclaimed an album release party for The Terrible Children , the new full-length from Chicago's power-pop trio The Sweeps , performances from the hard rocking The Streets On Fire and danceable Love In October gave the whole night an feeling of electricity and illustrated everything that is right with [...]

The Double Door is doing its part to alert the Chicago music community to all the great artists that grace its stage monthly by releasing its first musical compilation of the new year. Double Door email subscribers, twitter followers and blog lurkers found out about the mixtape on Thursday, January 13. The Double Door Monthly Mixtape Vol. 3 includes such Loud Loop Press-approved local artists as Hemmingbirds , The Sweeps and The Streets on Fire . So after much deliberation, head scratching, discussion, and more head scratching, we have MM's favourite albums of 2010. And we choose our words very carefully here, because we would not presume them to be the best, only those that have given us the most pleasure and enjoyment, records that we have returned to again and again, and for whatever reason have captured a moment or special place in our hearts. And while we have limited our selection to 25 albums there were many, many more that could have, and maybe should have, featured. But there that's the beauty [...]

Since MTV seems to stand for "More Tween Waste" these days, musicians have decidedly taken to the Internet when releasing music videos. Sites such as YouTube or Vimeo have opened the doors for bands who wouldn't have even received airplay back during MTV's heyday to create their own music videos, which can be seen by hundreds or thousands at the click of a button. Chicago's massive music scene features quite a few acts that still see the music video as a prominent art form. There were literally hundreds of music videos from local bands and artists released [...]

We've praised and posted a couple of times about Chicago's garage rockers The Streets On Fire and their excellent album This Is Fancy . This is the new video for another of the album's cracking tracks, Astronaut Love Triangle . Plenty to get your teeth (and your ears) into... Visit their MySpace here . Download The Streets On Fire - No Ones Fucking To The Radio mp3 (from This Is Fancy) [...]

Tyler Jon Tyler If there IS a reasons to trudge out in the frigid white stuff, it is indeed to see some great local live music. In this edition of Weekend Diversions, we talk Tyler Jon Tyler and The 1900s at the Empty Bottle , David Singer And The Sweet Science at The Hideout , In Tall Buildings at the The Whistler and much more. Let's get to it, shall we? [...]

I've previous lauded the sonic excess that Chicago's The Streets On Fire demonstrate on their debut full length, This Is Fancy . However, nothing adequately prepared me for the assault on the senses packed into their new video for Astronaut Love Triangle . Take a great song, throw in roller skates and a bevy of lithe lasses, and in no time you have suitably trashy fun that the whole family can enjoy. Sadly, I don't recall anything like this ever going down at the Cheapskate when [...]

The Streets On Fire debuted a new video today for the track "Astronaut Love Triangle" from their latest effort This Is Fancy . Though it's called "Astronaut Love Triangle", the clip is firmly grounded on earth and features roller rink action interspersed with some grimy footage of an out of control party. Pretty much what you'd expect from Chicago's twisted rockers. Be sure to catch the band this Friday, December 3, at the Beat Kitchen . Watch the video below: [...]

Summer is over... yeah, I know we have about two weeks before it's over on the calendar, but school has started, I am working my tail off, and Labor Day weekend is just about over. Thank goodness for football. Did you see that ECU Hail Mary? Maybe you should: A good weekend for me as an alumnus of Penn State and an employee of East Carolina, I enjoyed my football weekend. Ahhh, but this blog is about music... ARE YOU READY FOR SOME BLOGOPHILIA??? [...]

It's time to grit your teeth, suck in your last bit of fresh air, and prepare to have the shit shook out of you through a drastic post-punk explosion. Chicago based band The Streets On Fire know how to have a good time. And their debut full length album This Is Fancy is a prime sample of what it means to be entirely out of control, yet perfectly sane enough to dance the night away to release all tension entirely. As soon [...]

This week's releases include new stuff from The Books (their first in about five years) and These United States . The former sets the tone of weird that I sampled from some of the albums this week. There may not be a lot from artists you've heard before, which makes the discovery process that much more enjoyable once you take a listen to everything out today. A few choices that I particularly dug include Lower Dens , Mountain Man , and Richard Youngs . If there's anything I [...]

Chicago's The Streets On Fire have a new record. It's their first full-length and it's called This Is Fancy , which is ironic, because based upon what I've heard so far, it's not fancy at all. It's frayed and messy, even grating in a charming sort of way. But there's nothing fancy about it. It sounds a little like The Fall back when Mark E. Smith still cared, or those great Factory records so many new bands try to copy, but never get [...]

A little while ago we posted about The Streets on Fire and their rather magnificent forthcoming album This Is Fancy . The record, the band's first full length, gets its official release tomorrow and we have a new track for you to sample and, better than that, three copies of the vinyl to give away . For those that don't know, Streets on Fire play a brilliantly fiery blend of retro punk, soul and garage that is as decadent as it is swaggering, as sweaty as it is [...]
Chicago dance-punk rockers the Streets On Fire have just released their first album, This Is Fancy (Currency Exchange). The Streets On Fire debuted just last year with their well-received Hot Weekend EP, and they hope to keep that momentum going with This Is Fancy. First single "No One's Fucking To The Radio" grabs your attention right from [...]
Given the volume of music available for consideration on One Track Mind, we invariably have to pass on a lot of tasty morsels. [tweetmeme] In a desire to share even more great, free music with you, the Sunday Sampler will offer a handful of tracks without the usual critical and biographical write-up. Less talk, more tunes. Chief "Night and Day" from Modern Rituals [ to be released 8/17 | indie rock, indie-pop ] [...]

Hollows (photo by rodger ruzanka) Happy Independence Day weekend everyone! This weekend we're letting you know about Hollows at Lincoln Hall , The Streets On Fire at the Double Door , Tiny Vipers at the Empty Bottle , Obbityfest 2010 and more! Let's get to it, shall we?
