When I listen to Losing Colour , the first (and last) full album from Stricken City, I can't help but feel a wave of nostalgia; as if someone has taken hazy memories of youth and written a soundtrack for it. There's a retro nineties feel that comes across in the jangly U2-esque guitars and raw, earnest vocals with a hint of The Cranberries. There's a new wave of female fronted rock acts emerging out of the UK, and Stricken City could have considered themselves one of the best, had the band not decided to call it quits upon release of this second record. Last week, Stricken City's last record ever, Losing Color, came out behind lead single, "Some Say". While the tragedy of a band on its last contribution is in play, the strength of the post-Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "Some Say" should certainly carry the band into some last fans' hearts. Eine blödere Betreffzeile wollte mir partout nicht einfallen, tut mir leid. Dabei hat die Musik der Londoner Band Stricken City gar keine albernen Wortspielchen nötig, ihr modern-frischer Indiesound spricht eigentlich für sich. As many of you probably now, the UK band we grew to love last year Stricken City have decided to call it quits. Fortunately for fans of the band, they recently released their final album Losing Colour this month on Kora Records . Sure we may be a bit late on posting this, but we feel like we owed it to the band to pay homage to some of the sweet tunes they created. Enjoy new single "Some Say" below. Spending five days a week listening to the latest vinyl releases from the worlds of house, techno, disco and the latest mutation of grey zone is pretty much the ideal job for someone like me. Can an album be declared 'lost' before it even arrives? Holloway's Stricken City called time on their lush pop experiments at the launch party for 'Losing Colour'. Whatever the band's reasons for splitting at such an inopportune moment, this album is worth a wider hearing than simply as the epitaph to the short-lived career of an under-sung band. And if it was reaching British ears as a transatlantic import, rather than a domestic download from the band's website, it would probably get it. If Rebekah Raa and company are referring to the oversaturated music industry and the skills it takes to compete in today's digital market, I think the members of Stricken City are delusional. Last night saw the final ever Stricken City gig which is certainly a shame as the hour slot at the sold out Drop venue in Stoke Newington more than showed there is more than enough room for their lush indie-pop tunes in the world as they went out in emphatic style. A rousing "Five Meters Apart", the song that first hooked me too SC, "Bardou" and the wonderful "Losing Colour" were amongst my favourites in the hour long set.
