With the festival season beckoning, the seasonal weather up north has brightened up as some of the brightest upcoming stars look to start their summer crawl on Saturday the 5th of May at Live at Leeds , the same weekend as Camden Crawl and ahead of other upcoming major city festivals. With this 1-day line-up arguably looking stronger than the London weekend this year, it's difficult to see why you wouldn't drop up for the day, especially with so many bustling venues in the Leeds city centre within a short walking distance. A demonstration for an underground transit system in New York City was first built by Alfred Ely Beach in 1869, with a 312 foot run under Broadway in Lower Manhattan (this was later demolished when the BMT Broadway Line was built in the 1910s). The first underground line of the subway opened in October of 1904, though the first elevated line opened 35 years prior. Click through for a look at the underground subway system being constructed, from Delancey Street to the Bronx, from 1901 through 1931—and here's what a ride through the tunnels looked like back in 1905. The best subway stop ever?

By 1938, the year he began the series of subway portraits on view at the National Gallery of Art, Walker Evans had already made most of the great photographs on which his reputation is based. Two years earlier, he spent the summer photographing the sharecroppers whose daily lives became the subject of "Let Us Now Praise Famous Men," his collaboration with the writer James Agee, published in 1941. In the summer of 1938, Evans carried out his last assignment for the Farm Security Administration, where along with Dorothea Lange, Russell Lee and other photographers he helped define [...]

Image via Deadspin I believe that sandwich artistry is the master art, which is why I am currently attending Art & Design School in the greater New York City area. One day, I want to practice sandwich art with the best of them, alongside the other sandwich artists at Subway. I dream of franchise gallery openings where I manage teams of accomplished sandwich artists from all over the world. While we may not speak the same language, the language of sandwich will be all that we need to make masterful [...]

Today will be a short post as I have to go to Boston. In days of yore, I used to go to Boston fairly often and never minded the trip. I'd meet friends, see a play, go out to dinner or shop. Now that I have all the time in the world, I begrudge the trip. I'd much rather sit at home and travel the Cape roads. When I was a little kid, my mother didn't drive. If we wanted to go to Boston, it meant walking up town and picking up the bus to Sullivan Square. Once [...]
