Deaf Club's Lull EP of yesteryear was one of the finest, most colourful splashes of extended-play to have graced t'internet over the course of them there twelve months. Sunday, released February 20th via White On White, picks up precisely where the Welsh outfit left off with despondence-engendering guitars infected with an unshakeable sheen of reverb and has us lauding their return in place of longing for progression. It's lifted from a limited six-track cassette release on club Kissability , a tape-only imprint of the omnipotent Transgressive and as Polly Mackey wistfully sighs periodically throughout, it'd appear to [...]

I absolutely love NPR music . The host of their All Songs Considered podcast is Bob Boilen. I've heard him describe music as "Sunday morning music." I'm not exactly sure what that is but I think I know when I hear it. I'd been thinking about doing a Sunday mix for some time and then I heard Wilco's song "One Sunday Morning" & immediately loved it & had to start a mix so I could use that tune in it. [...]
Tweet Here at team SGTMT headquarters we've not indulged in any 'ones to watch' posts for next year, mainly because I'm fairly certain I'd be wrong. Most bands I think stand a chance end up working for Royal Mail and those that I think are annoyingly awful usually make it. Boo. Having said that, we do from time to time suggest that you Keep an eye on some upcoming artist or other. Today we eagerly exhort you to check out [...]
"Nothing burns like the cold."
"Marley was dead to begin with." Okay, that is stolen directly from Dickens, but I did use quotation marks. I wanted a dramatic opening, and that is one of my favorites. Winter is holding sway was all I could come up with as my first line, and it's a weak one. I wanted drama, I wanted a "Stella!" moment to describe the change in temperature. It is now is 24° on the Cape and in the teens in Boston. The sunlight has a cold look, a sharpness, to it. The sky is a deep blue but its color [...]
Sunday Slaylist: Bonecrusher Festival 2012
We're keeping things nice and simple for this week's Slaylist. This evening, the 2012 incarnation of Bonecrusher Festival has rolled into town, and we're heading down to the Camden Underworld to check it out. What better way to get us in the mood than with a Slaylist of all the band's taking part this year? Headlined by Carnifex , but also appearing on the bill are Beneath The Massacre , Within The Ruins , Molotov Solution , and Betraying The Martyrs . We're sure [...]
First Listen // Deaf Club – Sunday
Last years Lull EP was one of the most promising releases that caught out ears in 2011. Deaf Club , a young Welsh five-piece, have now followed up that record with a brand new single in the form of the bewitching Sunday . The song will be released digitally, as a AA-side with Mirrors, on February 20th ahead of a cassette EP - more details of which will be released soon. Much like the Lull EP, Sunday is an edgy and unhinged blast of off-kilter pop, the guitars [...]

Sunday Slaylist: IT SNOWED!!!111!!
Look, we're a bit tired, we've foolishly agreed to cook Sunday lunch today, and we still have to trudge down the shops to buy a big slab of meat to cook for it. With much of the UK currently under 2 inches of snow, can you blame us for going with an obvious topic this Sunday? That's why we've gone for the bleedingly obvious choice of a Winter-themed Sunday Slaylist. And yes, it's got Immortal on it. WE TOLD YOU WE WERE BEING OBVIOUS. [...]

Sunday Slaylist: Speculating Sonisphere 2012
Well, this week Sonisphere finally broke their silence and announced some of the bands that will be playing their Spanish and Finnish festivals this year. As yet there's still no names for Knebworth, and as Metal Hammer noted , some of the names that are playing in Madrid and Helsinki are playing Download in the UK, and therefore seem highly unlikely to make the UK edition of Sonisphere. But it got us thinking - what bands could be playing at Knebworth this year? Now if [...]
Sunday Slaylist: Enter Shikari
At the time of writing, Enter Shikari are currently no.1 in the UK album charts with their third album, A Flash Flood Of Colour . NUMBER BLEEDIN' 1. That's right, the odds are that come 7pm tonight, Enter Shikari will have just scored their first no.1 record. True, there are still several hours to go before this week's chart results are "official", and yes, the cynics among us have pointed out that January is traditionally a time of such low record sales that the numbers you need to sell in order to [...]
Sunday Slaylist: Poison Idea
One of the major downsides of running a music blog is the continuous and never-ending pressure to find and celebrate new music. Don't get us wrong - there's a hellaload of great new stuff coming out damn near every day - but sometimes it just gets so goddamn exhausting . Sometimes you just want to throw your hands up and listen to music that the power and influence of which is already cemented in the firmament of rock'n'roll. Sometimes you just want to listen to music guaranteed to make you want to smash stuff up. This is [...]
Sunday Slaylist: Instrumentals
Sometimes hated, often ridiculed - and very occasionally venerated - the instrumental can be a mixed area of success for a rock band. From guitar specialists (like Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen), through to contemporary prog and math rock (we're thinking our friends Rolo Tomassi, and the guys in And So I Watch You From Afar) have tried their hand at them. And yeah, plenty of bands have also dropped instrumentals somewhere onto their albums as little more than filler...but even the humble "filler" track can turn out to be something rather special every now and again. [...]

"Heap on more wood! the wind is chill; But let it whistle as it will, We'll keep our Christmas merry still."
Last night dropped to the teens, as low as 14°, but, luckily, I was home warm and cozy wearing slippers and wool socks to complement my usual nighttime winter ensemble. Today feels warm at 39°. If the wind would disappear, it would feel even warmer. It's strong enough to sway the big feeder and take the birds for a ride. I'd get car sick if I went back and forth that many times. I never did get to the grocery store with my list but, instead, I went to a smaller store to pick up cat food and [...]

By now you've had the chance to read all of our contributors' choices when it came to selecting the Thrash Hits Top 20 Albums of 2011. Sunday Slaylist: Gone But Not Forgotten (2011 Edition)
As we approach the end of yet another year, we find ourselves looking back -- not just at the good (of which next week we'll be discussing plenty of, with the publication of the Thrash Hits Albums Of The Year lists), but the bad. Over the past twelve months, some of our favourite bands decided [...]
Sunday Slaylist(s): Decibel Magazine's Albums of 2011
Uh-oh. It's started. It's not even December yet and yet the great Season Of Lists is upon us. As 2011 slowly creeps to a close, every man, woman, magazine, website, and radio station is publishing their Albums Of The Year List. Of all the major players, Decibel Magazine - America's only monthly metal magazine, and [...]
Sunday Slaylist: The Prodigy @ Download Festival 2009
When The Prodigy were announced as the third headliner for Download Festival 2012 this week, we expected there to be plenty o internet butt-hurt surrounding it. After all, 1) this is the internet, 2) this is a Download Festival announcement, and 3) people are idiots. We didn't expect it to be quite so funny however [...]
