Here's the list of my favorite albums outside of Seattle for 2012. You may think it's late, but you should know I got it done before the Russian New Year. Kevin Shields, you still have a few more days. 1. Exlovers - exlovers ( Young And Lost Club ) Exlovers had my favorite single of 2011 and now my favorite record of 2012. Their debut album is a dreampop masterpiece that was a long time coming from this London band. [...]

There were a few unexpected surprises in this week's show; some great new bands and new tracks from longtime favorites. Parenthetical Girls, who formed about 30 minutes South of here, have a new EP and it is superb; Alameda's sophomore LP is pretty great as well. And the brand new track by Still Corners is phenomenal. On the new band (at least to me) front, I was pretty impressed with Matt Bauer's new EP, new tracks by Scott & Charlene's Wedding and Sea Pinks, and the releases from Melody's Echo Chamber and Ending [...]

The Chills loved their leather jackets and probably took really good care of theirs. Listening Super Vacations ' ode to their leather jackets, Faded Leather Jacket, it is more heathen, but no less vital. On LP number three the Super Vacations blow the roof off it. What is "it?" It could be a car, house, office, lean-to, or bus-stop. It doesn't matter, you will get the same result. Roof blown off. The Richmond, Virginia band work with some pretty basic elements but prove that magic happens. Lots of fuzzy, chiming and angular guitars and [...]
Indie rock smearing all the colours coming outa your mom's Virginia = The Super Vacations .

One minute and forty seconds of rock, roll, psychedelic bliss, and a touch of snark. The Super Vacations release The Heater Part II today and "El Rey" is one of the singles. What will you think? Hell, I don't know what you'll think. I know what I think. The haze and feedback combine with the vox to make the most punk leaning shoegaze track I've ever heard. It's not even shoegaze really, I just don't know what the hell else to call it. You might know these guys from a little split 73 they did [...]

This show began like any other, but without the transition difficulties. All was smooth. The music, on the other hand, was not. After a long, satisfying week, I was in need of some loud, abrasive rock music. But it wasn't all like that. Due to the cold weather, I mixed in some beach pop, fuzzy dream pop and good old garage rock and pop. Don't forget to hit up the bottom of this post and listen to two tracks from the playlist! "Torn Curtain" by Television [...]

Words by Brendan So, I posted a similar version of this article over on my personal blog last week, but I found myself with more things to say, some shows already happened, some popped up on my radar, etc. Also, the readership over here is much larger, to say the least. And hey, I JUST LIKE WRITING, OKAY? The bottom line is that it just seems like every Pittsburgh band got together and said, "Hey, let's release some stuff in September and bombard everyone with local indie rock goodness, mmmkay?" Here's a [...]

I always admire people who actually do the things that I only sit idly by and think about. Starting a record label that puts out 7-inch singles is one of those things that I daydream about quite often. That is exactly what the 7 Inches blog has done. Not the daydreaming part, the starting a label part. The label is called Sweaters and Pearls and the inaugural single is a co-release with Velocity of Sound. It's a split single between Virginia's Super Vacations and Pittsburgh's Ceiling Stares [...]

Kapow! Here’s a super double team-up (apologies – have just been reading a selection of late 80s comics). Not only have The Super Vacations teamed up with The Ceiling Stares to produce a split 7’’ single, but labels Velocity of Sound and Sweaters and Pearls have also banded together to release it. It’s available now from the labels’ websites and you can listen to tracks from each band below.

Some weeks make the idea of an eternal summer feel like the most heinous threat imaginable. These kinds of weeks see you sitting motionless in your room in front of a small fan for hours trying escape the heat. Somehow you always manage to break a sweat anyway. Luckily, Roanoke, VA favorites Eternal Summers exist to remind you of the benefits of summer. "On My Honor" rides along on a skateboard of swift, airy guitar chords intertwined with a bass groove seemingly designed for the sole purpose of shimmying the sweat from listeners' brows. Nicole [...]

Here's a brand new one from VA's Eternal Summers , taken from a limited split 73 with Super Vacations that's out early next month on Funny Not Funny Records , complete with sleeve art from ES's Daniel Cundiff . " On My Honor " is a sweet little '60s-tinged psych-pop number that the band refers to as a " Troggzy jammer ." Grab the Eternal Summers / Super Vacations The Mystic Fortress Sessions Vol. 1 split here while it lasts: mp3: [...]

It's a nearly impossible task: to sort, listen to (rinse. repeat), pass or fail tracks, write up reviews, and publish all of the music that is piled up in our email boxes, via the submission forms, and CDs and vinyls. The end of the year is fast approaching, but we've still got 2010 music that [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Thicker Milk , the new Super Vacations LP put out by totally lo-fi Shdwply Records delivers, and it really is as simple as that. Those familiar with the shining, glazed nostalgia that hangs around a typical Super Vacations track will feel right at home: the scuzzy hooks, the inconsistencies and lethargic vocals are all ticked off and present. But if you’re new to the band, your expectations of the Virginia quartet’s new full-length are most likely determined with the opening track ‘Moss’. Instantly bursting into a one-minute lo-fi surfer jam, the LP’s opener is typical of [...]

I've got photos up over at Impose from Friday of Super Vacations, PC Worship, Screens, and The Surprisers at Death By Audio. The night what just about as I'd predicted it would. I did not enjoy Screens- their high-energy electronic beats just didn't do much for me- but Super Vacations, PC Worship, and The Surprisers were all fun to watch (unfortunately I couldn't stay for Big Troubles). The Surprisers are definitely a new band- they need to fill out their sound with a second guitar (the keyboards had to be up a little bit too loud, filling in [...]
