We've never hidden our love for Canadian indie pop duo The Superfantastics . From putting them into our "emerging" column to trying (really hard we might add) to get them to play our "Blogger's Delight" show this past Fall , these guys have always been on our radar, just waiting for the moment when they'll rise up from the current crop of underappreciated Canadian bands who you'd only really fall in love with if you listened to CBC. Well, no longer. These kids have just put up a new [...]

I've always like The Inbreds. Even way back in 94-95 when I was a hip hop zealot of the highest order, I dug the drum & bass pop magic made by Kingston, Ontario transplants Dave Ulrich and Mike O'Neil. When Herohill legend Shawn Lapaix made me the original consistent drumming mix tape, I made sure the Inbreds were represented by songs like Any Sense Of Time and You Will Know . Well lucky for me, and for the tons of other people who continue to love the Inbreds despite their 1998 split, Gooseberry records has [...]

If last week Canadian band had the best name I had heard in a while, this week has the most super fantastic name I have ever heard. Or at least, they write and perform some of the wittiest, cute, brief and entertaining songs I have ever heard. Listen: Tonight Tonite The Only One I C++ is U++ Oh! How You Used to Know Me Well (Back Then) Watch: Video for Tonight Tonite. RIYL: (fe)male duos [...]

Here are some of our best finds on bandsites, labelsites, promosites and magazines on the web this week. Twelve great tracks for you to enjoy! Citay - First Fantasy (from labelsite ) San Fransisco's Citay will release their second album "Little Kingdom" on the Dead Oceans label on November 6 , and this track is a taster of the new album. I love the fantastic psychedelic bass-groove and the vocals are a delight! Nightmare of You - I don't want to dance anymore (from spinner ) [...]
I don't do many "video" posts here on the hill, but I've been thinking lately that I should. I honestly don't know where one would go these days if you were looking to watch music videos on the tv. Here in Canada perhaps you could check out the lamely named Much More Music and catch a video or two, but their top 20 list is a melange of nonsense, Canadian and otherwise. Since videos have gotten the Nore treatment, and have been Banned From TV , artists have had to turn to the internet to get [...]

Using the phrase "Wall of Sound" to describe your band may take on a new meaning once the jurors of the Phil Spector case reach a verdict. And for good or bad, we at the culture of me would like to take the opportunity to use it once more in regard to our newest fave rave from the Great White North, Halifax duo The Superfantastics . Matt MacDonald (vocals, guitar) and Stephanie d'Entremont (drums, vocals) create a lot of cutesy noise that reeks of smiles and in-jokes that the culture of me won't get, but [...]

Release your inner nerd! Be awkward! Embrace the side of yourself that speaks in programming language, stalks crushes on Facebook, and watches Back to the Future over and over again. Listen to the Superfantastics! ...because that's what their pop is really all about anyway. It's adorable, and of course they're Canadian. You can buy their debut album Pop-up Book from their website . The Superfantastics - The Only One I C++ Is U++ The Superfantastics - Vantastic The band's Website / Myspace
The Superfantastics seront à l'Agitée le 31 juillet. ----------- MP3: [...]
Really interesting show tomorrow night in Windsor at Phog. I've talked about The Silt with my interview with Doug Tielli of the band so now I'll focus on the other band, Halifax's The Superfantastics . I've only heard a few songs but really catchy stuff. Not sure how much of the show I'll be able to catch (too many plans for the day and night) but hopefully I'll be able to see some. Anyways they have three songs up on their web page so check it out. To get [...]

In the current age of cynical music journalists, and even more cynical bloggers (your happy pals here at the hill excluded!), it must be hard to make an album full of fun pop music, release it to all these bitter folks with keyboards, and hope they aren't too depressed to enjoy it. Or maybe not. As much fun as Matt MacDonald (vocals, guitar) and Stephanie d'Entremont (drums, vocals) of The Superfantastics seem to be having, both on record and in the interviews I've read (such as this latest from The Coast ), I don't think they're too worried about [...]

Here's the perfect antidote to a testosterone-drenched Sunday (this side of the Atlantic/Pacific, anyway). I'm sure some of you found IndiePages 'ssss Best of 2006 lists long ago (maybe even in 2006). My embarrassment at having done so only tonight is as nothing to the pleasure derived from what I found there. With one exception, I'm not posting any of the groovy numbers already at IndiePages, just ones I found by following the links provided. Please click on the links if you haven't already been. Now for the one exception (mainly because you can find [...]
