![Independent Woman: Beyoncé Approaching Destiny's Chart Record [100 And Single]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1329557_lg.jpg)
We knew last week that Beyoncé's "If I Were a Boy" was poised to make a big leap on Billboard 's Hot 100 . The only question was, how big? Just a year ago, a 65-space jump to No. 3 would have been enough to make our eyes pop. When Britney Spears did it in early October 2007 with "Gimme More," it was considered something of a triumph—especially as she was at the height of her meltdown phase and coming off a tragic performance at the 2007 Video Music Awards. Now, we're [...]

Those rat finks @ TNT got their own version of the Hyperdunks, all the nuances down to lacing the set's colors into the shoe and features Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley, and Ernie Johnson's faces in cartoon caricatures on the shoe's tongue. But I wouldn't stress getting a pair, simply because only 48 pairs will be released. The shoe will be exclusive to Atlanta's Lenox Square Mall Nike Store and will be releasing this Thursday, October 30th to help kick off the 'NBA on TNT's season opening double-header lineup that [...]

Seeing as last week's Saturday Covers got deleted, this which is meant to be #22 is now #21... again. To be honest, it was a bit of a disaster last week. Silly guest bloggers*. I love The Supremes. No joke. I even bought myself two copies of The Supremes A' Go-Go it was so good. Admittedly this was an accident, I never even intended to buy one copy, let alone two. But I'm glad I did! [...]

From Amsterdamn, Lex Chauve ! makes a unique style of electronic music that is melodic and memorable. He labels his music as "minimalist", but I think it is more complex. There are many different sounds, melodies, and rhythms all occurring at once. Lex Chauve ! -Supreme [...]

So I spent two days at Disneyland (and California Adventure) last week. I'd never been to the California parks before, and I had a blast. Here are five covers of Disney songs, some from attractions, some from movies and TV shows. The Supremes song is from their aborted 1967 album composed entirely of Disney songs (I have eight recordings from these sessions, some of which I don't like much at all.) The Jackson Five song is from their first album in 1969. The next two songs are from the largely disappointing 1996 Disney compilation [...]

During the strife of Sengoku period Japan, Lord Daigo strikes a bargain with the forces of darkness. In exchange for gaining temporal power beyond imagining, Daigo offers up his unborn child, whose body parts will be divided up between forty-eight demons. The horribly disfigured infant is then, in proper Campbellian (Joseph, not Dave) fashion, placed in a basket and set adrift on upon a river. A kindly wise man discovers the child's basket on the river and raises the tenacious tot as his own. The child's adoptive father crafts prosthetic body parts, including a pair of arms which [...]
Adorote by *complejo Teddy Thompson: I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone "Talking only makes me feel more alone," you said once in the car outside the clinic. Two years later, you spoke the same sentence word for word one night...
1961 The One-Car Accident Mary Wells, Bye Bye Baby. The Supremes, Buttered Popcorn. The sound of raw, young America: the debut single of Mary Wells, the first major artist that Berry Gordy's Motown produced, and the second single by The Supremes, who would become Motown's biggest act in the mid-'60s. Wells' "Bye Bye Baby" is an ocean's remove from the poised, demure sensibilities of "My Guy,

I was having a conversation with my friend Kiki (who's probably still upset that I haven't done a proper Roy Orbison post yet), and we got onto discussions about our latest musical obsessions. I conceded that there hasn't been a band or artist I've been particularly wrapped up with lately, but I did express that I'd been listening a lot to Linda Lyndell's 1969 single "What a Man" recently. Almost too much, in fact. Like... to the point where I worry about the fact that I'm listening to "What a Man" so much (and enjoying it [...]
