The Sweet Serenades ' new song "Die Young" actually kind of suits their name as it is a sweet (albeit bitterly so) duet with Club 8 singer Karolina about the dangers of falling in love with a one night stand. Apparently it was featured in an episode of Grey's Anatomy, but what upcoming-yet-already-popular-i n-the-blog-world band hasn't been featured on that show? I just hope The Sweet Serenades don't suffer the same fate as Imogen Heap who I used to adore but can't listen to anymore without imagining Marissa and Ryan from The O.C. pouting over whatever injustice their upper-class [...]

My TV watching consists wholly of LOST, sports, action sports reality shows, and as a result I've never seen Grey's Anatomy. I do like The Sweet Serenades and their song, "Die Young" (a duet with Karolina from Club was recently featured in Grey's Anatomy episode 616 - Perfect Little Accident. In May The Sweet Serenades will support Club 8 on their tour in Asia. The Sweet Serenades debut, Balcony Cigarettes is being released by Leon Records in Sweden and Germany. [...]

Say what you will about Grey's Anatomy not really being the "must-see" event it once was (we wouldn't necessarily argue with you), but you got to admit, they still know how to alert viewers to great under-the-radar pop finds. "Die Young", from (previously MM-approved ) Swedish indie duo The Sweet Serenades , is one of the prime-time soap's latest compelling scene-soundtrackers . Effectively pairing the rustic tenor of Serenades' singer/ rhythmic guitarist Martin Nordvall with the sighing, featherweight coo of Club 8 vocalist Karolina Komstedt atop a [...]

It's nice to see bands that you've spotted out slowly becoming more and more famous. We are referring to The Sweet Serenades who seem to have made their way to Grey's Anatomy latest episode. I can't say I'm really excited about the show (at least during the last couple of seasons) but at least it seems the quality of music they use remains high! The current track, titled Die Young, is taken from their album Balcony Cigarettes and is a charming duet with Karolina Komstedt from Club 8 (who are up for a new album in May...don't worry, we'll keep [...]

The Sweet Serenades have made a new video for their lovely new single "Die Young" from the album "Balcony Cigarettes". The song is a duet with Karolina Komstedt from Club 8 , and these two bands will tour together in Asia in May, when Club 8's new album "The People's Record" is released. "Die Young" was recently featured in the Grey’s Anatomy episode "Perfect Little Accident ". You can download the song for free here: The Sweet Serenades - [...]

Click here to view the embedded video. Pure, sweaty, grungy rock'n roll at it's finest. This is the band performing during their CD release party at Mosebacke in Stockholm, Sweden. Pick up a copy of their album, Balcony and Cigarettes - you won't be disappointed. It's full of toe-tapping rock anthems. This is it. The best of the best. As determined by me and in alphabetical-by-artist order. This list has been a labor of love and it is an honor to pay tribute to so many fantastic albums. With that said, don't hesitate to lift your leg and leave your own mark in the comments. Or just track down the albums here that you don't know and get down with a good set of headphone. I know these lists are self indulgent and often pointless but they are fun nonetheless. A big thank you to all the TBE readers who [...]

NOTE: I didn't include singles for 2010 albums like "Cousins" and "Norway" because in my mind they are 2010 songs. So that's why they are not in the list. Also, I considered Local Natives a 2009 release since I was following them since last year and heard their album via the UK release. Similarly, that is why an album like the Rural Alberta Advantage has no songs on here. Because I included them in my list last year! Without further a do, here are my favorite (or the best!) songs of 2009 in my mind! : [...]

Here is my list of the best songs of the second half of 2009 . Be sure to read the first half's list here and treat the two posts as a tag team of epic jams. Wow, what a year. TBE is a month shy of it's first birthday and now I have to wrap it's whole existence into a short list? Tough times. Well, since objectivity is a myth, I am gonna keep my Best 20.9 Songs [...]

Here we are in the last waning hours of 2009 and I'm sneaking my top 10 list in right before they close the books for good on this decade. As with most things here at Tough Customer, this list will defy convention. You're not going to see any of the bands or albums that you would find on the other big, fancy - dare I say "mainstream" - lists. These are all bands flying under the radar that we've covered in 2009. Of course, with any luck, some of them will work their way up to the big, fancy lists [...]
50. The Sweet Serenades - "On My Way"There is something vaguely aerobic about The Sweet Serenades' "On My Way." It pounds out of the gate and the back-beat panting manages to hold out just long enough to tumble into a quivering, crystalline chorus. It is fragile, shabby, and entirely propulsive. Turn yourself, and this, up.49. War Tapes - "Dreaming of You"An American Editors mixed with a Cure

NEDRY Phew! We are a little out of breath here at Recommender Towers. Mainly because we've just had it whipped from us upon hitting play on Nedry's songs. We call them songs, but that's a little miss-guiding, they're really life-changing experiences. The kind of experiences you get when dipping your LCD-fuelled head into a bucket of jelly, whilst someone rams a mains electricity cable up your ass! It's not for the flimsy music fan out there. It's for the intellectual, for the strong silent types, for those wanting to know what fresh air really tastes like. [...]

It's nearly the end of the year, the decade in fact, and that means one thing - it's time for Some Of It Was True! to try and name next year's big things. There's one rule: I've limited myself to acts with 5,000 friends or less on MySpace - no Marina & The Diamonds for me. It's more exciting for you, and more exciting for me. Here are my 10, then: Moonlight Bride I'm not sure which came first, the hairs on the back of my neck or this fourpiece from Chattanooga, Tennessee [...]
