brooklynvegan was the first to report that the rumored Metallica festival set for Atlantic City is indeed true. The band just announced the Orion Music and More Festival in Atlantic City on June 23rd-24th, which will feature unique sets from the band and a full runthrough of The Black Album. This is the first of [...]

Metallica has done many things in their day but have never curated and headlined their own two-day festival...until now. Taking place in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 23rd and 24th at Bader field, the festival will feature 'Tallica headlining both nights and they will be performing both The Black Album and Ride The Lightning in its entirety. The festival will include 22 bands hand selected by the band to perform. The line up is quite interesting as it mixes the worlds of metal and [...]

Happy New Year post! see, told ya it was better. That is all. Gwan with your nonsense and I'll do the same!

As we've reported over the last few weeks, 2011 saw the release of plenty of great music. Luckily, in a year with so many great releases, we also had the opportunity to see plenty of great shows. From arena blow outs to dive bar ragers, the following are the 13 best live performances I saw the last 12 months. 1/15: Punch Brothers @ Bowery Ballroom (NYC) Punch Brothers are arguably the most talented touring band today, and their mid-January Bowery Ballroom performance did not dissapoint. Billed as one of their famed "P-Bingo" Nights, Punch [...]
Gonna be a heavy-ass weekend in Columbus. Start off with with the sludgy/stoner/'70s-rock Saviours at Ace of Cups on Saturday night (w/ Ramming Speed, Charlie Hustle, and Yeti) and follow it up with the triple, head-bashing triple bill of The Sword , Black Cobra and Mount Carmel at Outland on Liberty on Sunday. Both of these shows are the ONLY Ohio shows on these individual tour itineraries. Take that Cleveland and Cincinnati! The Sword's 2010 [...]
You might have heard of these dudes before. Spawned around the San Francisco Bay, Low Limit from Portland, Oregon (who has since been a Brainfeeder favourite) and Lando Kal (who moved to New York, now Berlin) formed as one under the name Lazer Sword . They've released a split 123 on Glasgow's Numbers label, and an album on Innovative Leisure . Seperately, Lando has released stuff on Numbers , Amsterdam's Rush Hour and London's Hotflush , whilst Low Limit has put out on Manchester's Fat City [...]

Rustie - Glass Swords Warp: 2011 Glass Swords , the debut album from Rustie , has dealt with the issue of extremely high expectations more than most dance records in recent memory. Previous releases from the producer showed his potential, and successful releases from fellow Glaswegian beat junkie Hudson Mohawke earlier this year set the stage for the highly anticipated full length album. To say that Rustie has met these expectations is a huge understatement. He's not only met them, but he's surpassed them with [...]

Austin based retro-metalers The Sword announce they have found a permanent drummer and they have announced the tour dates for the second leg of their tour with KYUSS Lives. Their new drummer,"Jimmy" Vela III, is taking over the spot for their original drummer, Trivett Wingo. The band would like to give their thanks to Kevin Fender for covering until they found the right drummer for their band. The tour is wrapping up in support of The Swords 3rd album, Warp Riders . The band plans to keep writing so [...]

I won't get too technical in my review of Rustie's latest album Glass Swords . Over the past few years I've found myself less concerned with being right, and even less concerned with being opinionated or argumentative as to why I like music. What concerns me is the fact that Rustie's Glass Swords is a great indication of the direction music should take. Glass Swords is a pleasure to sit through. A combination of powerful lead melodies, intricate bass-lines and well woven synthesized sounds Glass Swords succeeds as a blending of musical and technical skills. Perfect as a sountrack to any [...]

"Daily Wind" by Jorge Ayala [ Warp Records ] Glass Swords , the first album by the Scottish producer Rustie, opens with a wailing guitar solo. Since debuting in 2007 with Jagz The Smack , Rustie's been remixed by Heinrich Meuller, dabbled in hip-hop production, and lately explored a polychromatic [...]
Where the hell do we stick Huntress in this current feminist metal movement debate? Juilliard-educated vocalist Jill Janus (a.k.a. "Tuesdae") has clearly got a set of pipes and a legitimate love for good ol' fashioned no-bullshit metal (in other words, not stupid scene shit), and, on top of that, she is clearly not at all [...]
We have some great news for fans of the Sword who have been down in the dumps since the band's former drummer, Trivett Wingo, left the band last year. The Austin, Texas metal outfit announced that they have officially added Santiago "Jimmy" Vela III to fill the hole left by Wingo. They also wanted to thank Kevin Fender, who has been drumming for the Sword since Wingo's departure. In addition to adding Vela on the skins, the band also revealed 18 U.S. and Canada shows in support of Kyuss Lives. And once the Sword get back [...]

Rustie isn't new, he's had tracks appearing in various mixes and compilations for a while (notably, in mixes from Mary Anne Hobbs , Modeselektor , Ninja Tune , and Hyperdub ), and it's about time we finally saw him release a full LP. I've been waiting for this for a while now, and I can't say I'm at all disappointed by Glass Swords , released October 11 on Warp Records (the beloved independent label that's also released works by Autechre, Flying Lotus, Squarepusher, Surgeon, Bibio, Eskmo, and many more).
