Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is used to having some of the biggest, most recognizable names in the music business topping its lineup – from Bruce Springsteen to Radiohead to Metallica. But the 2013 edition one-upped all of their previous incarnations by bringing in perhaps the most famous musician in the world: Sir Paul McCartney. Having a Beatle on The Farm brought together fans of all ages, races, and walks of life. With his set being the most anticipated in the history of Bonnaroo, the weekend was Macca’s right from the get-go. Even his sound check will go down [...]
::: Sasquatch! ::: Photo by Hilary Harris Sometimes never is actually preferable to being late. Since we are so far removed from Memorial Day weekend, I am not going to bore you with what was and what could have been. The Gorge, always a picturesque venue for any musical carnival that touches down upon its [...]

More than any other day, Saturday at Bonnaroo was filled with things that could only really happen at the Farm, among them, Björk's jellyfish facemask thing , R. Kelly entering on a boom crane, a 5k at 9 in the morning (in 80 degree heat), and a moment where Jim James, R. Kelly, Billy Idol, and John Oates were all on the same stage. Things like these explain why "Only at Bonnaroo" has become a sorta mantra at the Farm, because where else would anyone see all of this in one spot? Saturday has the last late night shows [...]

"Dad Rock" started as a snarky label that music snobs & critics lobbed at aging classic rock-influenced bands like Wilco and The National . Maybe because it's Fathers' Day weekend or because I will be a new dad next month (if due dates hold true), but I'm joining Jeff Tweedy in embracing the once-derogatory term. So here's a mix of some modern dad rock, all from the last three years and all of which I happen to love. Download the entire mix here . [...]

A wise man once said: "The four right chords can make me cry." Okay, it was Third Eye Blind , but that doesn't make the statement any less true. I've been known to tear up at random times when good vibes become too overwhelming or catch me off guard. Some recent music-related happy cries: while watching Torres' live performance, listening to The National's "I Should Live In Salt" on repeat and hearing "What's What I Do" for the first time. Maybe it was the heartfelt lyrics, the handclaps, or the cool baritone vocals, [...]
![[Sasquatch! 2013] Recap: Day Three](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4987550_lg.jpg)
Following a tired Friday and an outstanding Saturday at Sasquatch! 2013 , Sunday kept the good vibes going. The sun continued to beam down, festival goers were in high spirits, and day three promised great things. The diverse lineup was really showcased this day, with such a great breadth of performers ready to get the Sasquatch crowds moving: Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, El-P, Earl Sweatshirt, Mumford & Sons, Killer Mike, The Tallest Man On Earth, Dropkick Murphys, Grimes, Baths, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Primus and many more were ready to provide a [...]

Believe it or not, Mad Mackerel has been around for more than five years now. During that time we’ve posted more than 4,000 times, and offered more than 5,000 songs for your listening pleasure. And more than three quarters of a million people have paid MM a visit during our lifetime on Google’s (godawful) blogspot and since April 2010 on WordPress. We asked some of the regular MM contributors to give us their top twenty songs since MM first went live and we’re also going to give you one big mega-listing shortly, first up was Dr Roddy , [...]

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Iceage w/ Lower, Georges Batille Battle Cry, Muuy Biien Sunday, June 9 The Earl - 466 Flat Shoals Avenue in Atlanta 30316 Admission $12 / Purchase Tickets While Iceage's songs are rooted in classic punk and pulsing hardcore, exuding ink-black atmospheres of bleak tension and panic-ridden anxiety, each of their two full-length efforts have felt heftier and more ambitious than the abrasive exhortations of four Danish teenagers. Sure, the energy is right, and there's a spirit of [...]
A steady mixture of high energy and low-key acts filled out day three of Sasquatch.
What else can be said about Sasquatch! these days? What started out as a three-day music festival promoting some of alternative music's bubbling acts, has become one of the best destination festivals in the country. Every Memorial Day weekend now, the Gorge Amphitheater gets packed with the Pacific Northwest's wildest citizens, Canada's most dedicated fans, and weary travelers scattered from other parts of the world. It remains a festival where the experience matters much more than the actual music. Back in February, the online community groaned about this year's headliners, but this is a festival that [...]
If Friday and Saturday felt a little lite in the hip-hop department, Sunday was like an all you can eat buffet. I indulged quite a bit, but before the hip-hop marathon started, Sunday may have had the best start of the weekend with Deep Sea Diver 's early 2pm set. You may not have heard of this Seattle band, but you've definitely heard front woman Jessica Dobson, one of the best hired guns for touring bands in the last few years. I'm told she was here last year playing with the Shins, but now she's [...]
You've warmed up now, you best have anyway. You started slow, getting your heart rate at the right speed. Took it up a notch with yesterday, and now you're midway through the workout, time to prove your endurance and then tomorrow you can cool down. Sunday is another example of how four day festivals are addictive, because regardless of being irritated by those camping neighbours who stayed on the campgrounds rather than attending shows, and regardless of the fact that you've slept very little due to their chemical and caffeine combinations, you have some amazing shows to attend [...]

Every day since we decided to post our top 10 favorite songs of ALL TIME, I have kept a piece of paper with me and throughout the day I would write down a song that came to mind. Erasing my whole “pop-punk” phase (Taking Back Sunday would probably be the only thing on my list), this assignment was pretty easy. Yes, you are probably amazed that my list isn’t a combination of Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake and a dash of Beyonce, but honestly those artists would have their own top 10 lists. I absolutely hate the question of "What is [...]
The Tallest Man on Earth - There’s No Leaving Now (Moog Sound Lab version)

Chona Kasinger Next week is a pretty big week for new album releases, particularly if you're favourably inclined towards records coming out of the UK, which means that this week is a pretty big week for advance album streams. And while it's not the one that everyone will tell you you should be paying attention to, Still Corners' second record Strange Pleasures is one you shouldn't overlook - particularly if you assumed you knew what they were all about from their 2011 debut Creatures Of [...]

A self-proclaimed "life long lover of all things synth," Philly-based Strand of Oaks ' Tim Showalter and bandmate Chris Ward (also of Pattern is Movement ) helped The Tallest Man on Earth re-imagine the title track to his 2012 LP There's No Leaving Now for Moog Sound Lab . The two projects were on tour together last summer, with Showalter supporting his own 2012 release Dark Shores . With a plethora of Moog gear at their disposable, the collaborators turn the [...]
Here's your spoonful of delicious Monday tunes. This particular playlist rises slowly from the ashes into romping good time - also known as a barn-burner, if you're hip. You know the drill. Plug your headphones in, click play and enjoy the music. I'd also like to take a moment to point out that 8tracks has apps available for both Android and iOS . They are free and grant you access to a ton of awesome playlists. Believe it or not, 8tracks didn't pay us to put this in here. We just want you [...]
