Photo Credit: Sofia Stolpe Last week, The Tallest Man on Earth took a break from recording his next LP by stepping out under his given name of Kristian Matsson to perform a pair of cover songs on Swedish game show På Spåret . Now his musical partner (and perhaps wife, considering her hyphenated last name in the introduction), Amanda Bergman , has also made an appearance on the show to promote the duo's forthcoming soundtrack for the film Once A Year . In keeping [...]
The Tallest Man on Earth puts down the guitar and goes full-band on the Irish classic-rock hit 'Dancing in the Moonlight.'

Kristian Matsson and Amanda Bergman (The Tallest Man on Earth and Idiot Wind) have written seven new folk-based compositions between them, as the score for new Swedish flick En Gang Om Aret ( Once A Year ). Once A Year is Gorki Glaser-Müllers debut feature. With a narrative device similar to David Nichols' One Day , the film explores the relationship between a man and a woman who've met in different hotel rooms once a year, for the past thirty years, now struggling with the unexpected path their [...]

Photo by Meghan Brosnan Last night, Kristian Matsson (aka The Tallest Man on Earth ) appeared on the Swedish TV show På Spåret , as TwentyFourBit points out. Backed by a full band, Matsson performed two songs: the Swedish folk tune "En Fattig Trubadur" and a Swedish-language cover of Thin Lizzy's classic "Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight)". Thanks to the supporting musicians, Matsson's rendition of "Dancing" showed off a more lush, intricate sound, one that was as recklessly rocking as it was folksy and insightful. Watch the full performance here [...]
Kristian Matsson Covers Thin Lizzy, Previews Soundtrack The Tallest Man On Earth has been branching out from his solo-acoustic roots of late, contributing songs with partner Amanda Bergman to a film , debuting new material with a backing band, and — tonight — leading a group through Thin Lizzy's late-'70s rock anthem "Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight)" on Swedish television. Watch Matsson perform the latter for På Spåret above (he also does Swedish folk tune "En Fattig Trubadur" [...]
I usually don't write about pop music, but I heard a performance (from about a year ago) earlier this week that was particularly exciting for me, so I can't help but make it the focus of my little entry here…. Paul Simon's Graceland was the soundtrack to huge chunks of my childhood. It's a record I've always held close to my heart. There can never be a replacement for the driving percussion, bouncing bass, and smooth vocals of the original recording of the song "Graceland," but The Tallest Man Alive, Swedish singer/multi-instrumentalist Kristian Matsson, performed a [...]

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Consisting of three ladies each established in their own field of the music industry, Seeker Lover Keeper fundamentally sounds like a good idea. Sarah Blasko, Holly Throsby and Sally Seltmann are currently some of the biggest Australian songwriters, previously writing songs for artists like Fiest , and touring with Lykke Li , The Tallest Man on Earth , Broken Social Scene and more. However, it takes more than apt songwriting and [...]

This morning we mentioned some upcoming releases we're excited about, but not every band has their plans set in stone. Some are more vague, intentional or not, about their current projects, leaving us to speculate about whether they'll make good on a promise for a record in 2012, or whether they'll just surprise us with a stellar album. Here are some bands we're (*fingers crossed*) expecting/hoping for albums from this year. Sometime in 2012 [...]

Inbox strikes again. This time it came all the way from Sweden from the band Francis . "Traktor" is the single (out Jan. 23rd on Strangers Candy/Playground), off their forthcoming EP This Must Be Blood (out February 27). The indie pop band are coming off an eventful year of touring with The Tallest Man On Earth and releasing their well received debut album Lekomberg . Traditionally a band known for their stomping folk and blues, the new sound has morphed into a more rhythmic and experimental pop sound. Thats a good new years [...]

Swedish indie band, Francis , has been getting some nice buzz recently after touring with The Tallest Man On Earth. They do though, have not much in common with Kristian, as the group favors infectiously dark riffs, and pensive lyricism, to create surreal states of living. Check out "Traktor" which is from their new EP, This Must Be Blood , out February 27th. Via IS

In just a few short days, I ship off to Sweden to (hopefully) see the northern lights . To celebrate, I gathered together some of my favorite Swedish music. Recently I read that Sweden was the third largest exporter of music, behind the US and UK. No idea if that's actually true, but any country that puts The Knife on their official tourism website gets a thumbs up from me… The Cardigans - "Lovefool" Lykke Li - "Little Bit" [...]

When I heard that Other Lives was playing a show at the intimate Cafe du Nord venue in San Francisco, I was a little shocked. BAM! Bet you were expecting a Best of 2011 list, yeah? Well I don't got time for that (YET)! No...this is where I acknowledge all the great stuff I missed in 2010. 'Cause it doesn't get any more rock n roll than to talk about shit that's over a year old. Write that down in your How to Be Rock N Roll notebooks. Anyway, the last time I wrote this list , I spent quite a while talking about how there isn't enough time in one year to listen to all the potentially great releases and put [...]

Jesse Woods was a star wide receiver for Texas A&M before four surgeries brought him out of the game and into making music, a detour he says many of his former coaches and teammates, while supportive, don't necessarily "get". Ever since Jimmy introduced me to Woods's music, a comfortable place of rest between Fleet Foxes and The Tallest Man On Earth, ever since I heard the refrain "I'll be waiting in Northern California for ya" , I've been hooked on his saintly dreamfolk tinged with regret like an early morning beneath warm covers. [...]

Woah, I just got blown away listening to Wake! Owl , for the first time. The Vancouver indie folk artist, has traces of The Tallest Man On Earth and Bright Eyes, and gives it a more whole product than either one of those two. The melodies are simply stunning, the lyrics are heartbreaking, and think we might be seeing a Canadian star in the making. Every single one of these four songs could easily be the star for your next relationship. I have been going for more uptempo stuff as of late, and I needed this nice kick of serenity. [...]
