Loyal defenders of all that is shoegaze, London label/night Sonic Cathedral's Nathaniel Cramp curates a playlist especially for The G-Man blog... A once-off club night to celebrate Swedish shoegaze shamans The Radio Dept that happened to snowball into a full-blown record label, "the label that celebrates itself" prepares to turn nine years old in October, a ripe old age in modern times. SC's head priest Nathaniel Cramp preaches ten fuzzy hymns below that should be indoctrinated by one and all. Response: [...]

These guys stick safely to a kind of fuzzed-out psych/shoegaze shimmer on their debut album. And although i've heard plenty of Primal Scream or BJM records in my life, The Tamborines still successfully kick out a worthy racket. They often emulate the sound of the classic Creation bands - the opener reminds me of mid-period Telescopes - but you can tell that their fanbase will also consist of

You can partially thank this man for this blog's existence Chungking, "Slow It Down" - It's possible, I suppose, that Richard X 's near-total absence from the world of music in 2006 was as much an act of commentary as anything else. After all, the man's music is all but predicated on exploiting the tension inherent in the classic artist's dilemma of wanting to make something timeless in a medium which makes itself obsolete; could you really even blame the man for not being particularly motivated to participate [...]
The Tamborines released their new single Sally O'Gannon b/w Be Around on the new Sonic Cathedral label earlier this week according to their website. The band, originally from Brazil are now London based. I have not heard the single version but I am familiar with the demo versions which can be downloaded from the bands site. The bands sound is like Spacemen Three clashing with the Jesus and Mary Chain in a garage bar. Seriously! Sally O'Gannon has been a favourite of mine since getting [...]
