Photo via Mona's website Alternative rock is great; it encompasses so many different ideas, influences and sounds, acting like a mother and nurturing those who want to put more than just rock into their melting pot of creativity. A new face to the alternative rock world, Mona has been climbing up on the totem pole of success. Having performed with Kings of Leon back in May, and receiving attention in the BBC's Sound of 2011 poll, Mona is steadily making their way to the top, and there is no stopping them. [...]
Wait, wait, wait. We were told by Stephen Malkmus that "corn dog" was going to be the replacement to "blow job" in "Senator." But then, he goes on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon an throws in "snow job." Now, are we to assume that the senator, and, well, everyone wants to work in the snow? Is a "snow job" another euphemism that I am just not aware of? Either way, that is what he is using now. Who knows what it will be tomorrow? Check out Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks performing "Senator" from Mirror Traffic [...]

Filed under: News , Holy Hell David Goddard, Getty Images We can all take some solace in the arrest of three teenagers in connection with the fire that ravaged the Sony Warehouse in Enfield, north London, on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 9. According to London 24 , the suspects, a pair of 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old, have been charged with violent disorder and arson for setting the blaze that destroyed stock [...]

NME have reported that three teenagers have been arrested for their involvment in the fire that destroyed the Sony Warehouse in Enfield on Monday (8th August). From the NME: "Two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old have been held over violent disorder and arson. The youngest suspect has been bailed, while the others are still in police cells, reports London 24." It might not be much to the 150 record labels that have been plunged into darkness this week, but it's something.

Have a listen to this amazing dance-floor electronica tune. Circuit EP by THE GLASS CHAIN The band will be playing a show on August 18th at the Mercury Lounge

If you haven't heard of Pnau by nau now, you're no friend of mine. The Australian electronic dance duo of Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes can already list Elton John as a superfan, and can claim indie darlings Empire of the Sun and Teenager/Ladyhawke on their resume (Littlemore was a member of both). Their brand of syrupy disco-pop draws easy comparisons to the aforementioned EotS and fellow Aussies Bag Raiders, which is clearly high praise. The band is set to release their fourth album, Soft Universe , on Sony [...]

Teddy Boys admiring the view on Clapham Common in the early 1950s On the balmy summer evening of Thursday, July 2nd, 1953 there were maybe around two hundred teenagers hanging around a bandstand and its accompanying cafe situated roughly in the middle of the two hundred acres that make up Clapham Common in South London. The band was playing hits of that year such as Frankie Laine's 'I Believe' and Dickie Valentine's 'Broken Wings' and noticeably smartly-dressed young men were feigning disinterest in the girls who were dancing to the music. The self-conscious young [...]
I'm not entirely sure that, when asked why you make music, the reply "I was born into the business" is one you want to hear from a sixteen year-old. Really? It's not that you're driven, or love music, you've just gone into the family business? It seems a plausible explanation for Bera, though, who at the age of 16 talks about making music like his mummy was a press pack and his papa was a Rolling Stone. Well, not a Rolling Stone, more, perhaps a Tigerbeat: "I've been in this business since my childhood, [...]
Music has always played a major part in the arena of rebellion, protest and government opposition and in our modern society where music can reach more ears than a multi-million-dollar advertising campaign, its roll has become even larger. Since their inception, bands such as Rage Against the Machine and Sonic Youth have been using the high-energy and youthful angst present in the hardcore and punk genres to ignite a unified opposition to the government and when Neo-Nazi influence grew throughout Berlin's tecnno scene, Atari Teenage Riot took a similar approach in hopes of driving the social phenomenon towards a slightly [...]
The best thing about teenagers is that they take everything so seriously: whether it's an upcoming math test, getting grounded, or missing out on seeing their favorite band this weekend, if they don't get their way, the world is coming to an end. Everything is such a big deal!! For example, as long as I [...]

If you like bands that take their cues from some of the best shoegaze and pop of the past, then Letting Up Despite Great Faults might be a good fit for you. The Los Angeles based band is back after an excellent release in 2009 with an EP which is set for release in August. The new EP is a perfect fit for summer too, taking 5 tunes and linking them up with spending time outdoors with friends, BBQ's or whatever you associate fondly with the summer months. And even though the [...]
A 19 year-old man died in hospital after attending the EDC festival in Dallas this past weekend. Here are two viewpoints from the local paper, the Dallas Observer. The first, by Pete Freedman, was sobering and factual . The second, by Jim Schutze, was honest and whistful . I just don't understand what prompts some people to endanger their lives at EDC. I certainly don't want another party to lead to another funeral. Senseless tragedies like this naturally make us search for someone to blame. But there is [...]
