Artist: Tortoise

Papa M is the solo project of Louisville musician and producer David Pajo, better known for playing with Slint , Tortoise , and Zwan . He will be delivering one of his rare live performances as Papa M on May 27th at The Workman's Club in Dublin. Great Lakes Mystery are the supporting act for the evening. Their name conjures up what you'd expect " Beach House " to sound like - wispy, ethereal music that floats and swirls along, transporting you to a ocean side spot as you dip your toes in the sand, watching the ocean waves gently roll in. Following South by Southwest, it appeared as if everyone suddenly kicked off tours everywhere. Chicago's Metro hosted some fabulous gigs (e.g. Wild Flag, Porcelain Raft), New York exploded with buzz bands, and California offered up two unique festivals (Paid Dues, Coachella). The hometown show: where spirits are high, guest lists are full, and a band's confidence is spiked, thanks to friendly faces in the crowd, and perhaps a traditional dinner at Lock Down Bar & Grill or something. When you give a Chicago mainstay like Tortoise home field advantage, though, it's not always a boon. Tortoise don't lend themselves easily to categorisation. They rose out of the fertile Chicago jazz scene of the early 90s, but since their debut almost eighteen years ago they have hopped from genre to genre, underpinned by a jazz sensibility that drove them to strike out in unexpected directions, but producing music that could hardly be considered alongside even the most avant garde of the genre, 1998's TNT excepted. With Record Store Day 2012 just around the corner the announcements are coming thick and fast with Thrill Jockey today naming three of their acts releasing a total of four special edition vinyl singles and albums, featuring The Black Twig Pickers – 'Yellow Cat' 7", Freakwater's 'Feels Like The Third Time' LP and the first two Tortoise singles, 'Lonesome Sound' and 'Mosquito' (both re-issued on 7").
