My first magazine cover! This is the Spring 2012 issue of the New York Observer's Townhouse magazine . It's a composite of three images. I corrected the distortion using CS62s Wide Angle Adaption filter which is an amazing tool. Shot with my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 @17mm which comes out to about 35mm on the D902s sensor.

Photo: artpunk This little compilation is the product of something I have been slowly working on for a few weeks now. Its an attempt to showcase or highlight some of the brilliant artists in this country that I truly admire but don't often write about. This being said, I discovered a large proportion of these artists from leading blogs such as East to West and Life Aquatic . I would never have come across artists such as Network , Dom_Bird , Motion.Picture.Actress and Yosemite if it [...]

I have seen The Townhouses (Leigh Hannah) a handful of times, without failure, Leigh succeeds in transporting me to another dimension of loosing my mind to his music, bouncing away to his all-absorbing ambient sounds. After his show at The Workers Club on the 10th of November, I was lucky enough to talk him and his live-show-side-man Hamish Brooke, into a seedy interview. Apart from coming to the realization that both Leigh and Hamish are extraordinarily genuine and passionate in what they do, here is what else they had to say. The first time [...]

Guerre - 'Dream Within The Sun' (The Townhouses Remix) ( mp3 ) A few Yes Please records artists recently remixed each other's work, including whothehell.net favourite Guerre, who remixed up-and-comer Oliver Tank and had his own track pleasingly tampered with by The Townhouses. Enter local Melbournian Leigh Hannah , or better known by his musical alter ego; The Townhouses . Leigh's 2010 debut album Islands is a wonderful lo-fi/ambient CD made perfectly for chilling out. The music he creates is beautifully crafted. It's many different layers of sounds give it a kind of enigmatic quality taking you on a journey through the highest of highs and the most chilling of lows. After having a listen through it is no surprise why he was asked to support massive international acts such as Pantha du Prince (one [...]

The Townhouses - Backyard The Townhouses is the solo project of Melbourne native Leigh Hannah. He composes and records his music, a blend of experimental ambient electronica with clear pop and R&B influences currently in vogue in Australia, in his back shed in semi-rural Victoria. After releasing his 2010 album Islands as a pay-what-you-choose download, Hannah returned in March with Backyard . These three songs incorporate clearer dubstep influences, especially on 'Indian Elephant'. Hannah's music is [...]

The Townhouses - 'Indian Elephant' ( mp3 ) The Townhouses probably take the award for the band who've spent the most amount of time in my Drafts folder before making an appearance on the site. I really love this dude (/these guys, I think it's one guy but I don't want to commit). From his 'Islands' (mini-)LP from last year to his cover of Common . Much like Saint Surly & Monster Monster, it's a mystery why this music has not appeared on here until now despite my love for it. What isn't a mystery is [...]

After posting the Collarbones track the other day, I somehow came across fellow Australian, Leigh Hannah, thanks to the beloved Facebook. Anyway, it lead me to find his music under the moniker The Townhouses, and boy was I happy to hear it! Filled with dreamy keys, synths and one hell of a trumpet line, there is no denying "Backyard". And what is even better, it is accompanied by a digital B-side, "Indian Elephant", which is equally as fantastic! Stream "Backyard" or hit the skip to download these two tracks from bandcamp. [...]

Here's a challenge: click play on The Townhouses ' "Backyard" and "Indian Elephant." Try your absolute hardest not to fall in love with both songs. As it turns out, it's humanly impossible. With "Backyard," I gave up about 45 seconds in; by the time the trumpet sauntered smoothly into the mix, I was simply gushing. "Indian Elephant" unwinds more slowly, but when those skittering tones come forth to compete with the vocal swells, we're wondrously wide-eyed at the melodic interplay. These are chilled-out dream pop tunes, perfect for getting all loved-up while [...]
