Today homercat sez it's all about Canada. Canada's birthday is this sunday, and thus homercat is going to be on a mini vacation which is gearing up right about now. Before I depart for Canada Day celebrations I post up these here Canadian ditties. Have a good one all. The Tragically Hip - "Ahead by a Century". It's strange being back in Ottawa. This is the city I (mostly) grew up in: the one where I learned to multiply, to swim, to fall maybe a little bit in love. Visiting now, after years in other places, I see different things than I once did. I see the wide spaces between the buildings, the pockets of community, the specialness of the waters that run through it - and the gentleness of its passions. As kids vroom down Carling celebrating a Senators victory, they're answered with quiet hurrays, single waves. Even [...]

Its My 27th Birthday today...Woot Woot (as my sis would say)....I don`t have much for ya cause I got lots to do today...but here`s a list of some other famous people who are celebrating a Bday today (who also happen to be good looking?!) Allan Houston , basketball player Don Mattingly , baseball player Jessica Lange , actress [...]

A few things I need to address .......as I start off Monday morning in a bitch fest. I`m finding that Hollywood has become dry lately with Movie ideas...Look at all the big Blockbusters that are coming out soon 1: Shrek The Third 2: Spider Man 3 3: Ocean`s 13 4: Pirates Of The Caribbean : At Worlds End [...]

St. Patrick's Day! Celebrate with a pint of Guinness or Harp's, and don't forget to wear green, lest ye get pinched. I'm continuing my imaginary itinerary through the final hours of SXSW. Remember to check the bands' MySpace pages because many of them are touring beyond this festival. If you can't go to them, maybe they'll be coming to you! Beginning in the wee hours: Midlake from Denton, TX - 12 AM @ Buffalo Billiards Everybody and their blogging brother loved "Roscoe" from Midlake's 2006 CD The [...]

Well now that the Anniversary has past and the 125 Albums is done is time to get back to some regular blogging...I wanna first get off my chest that Lost made me "Lost" again last night....I have no idea where they are going with Locke`s character...and what`s with the unbelievable Polar bear shit...I like it when they have story lines that are semi-convincing...it was still good though. Just not as good as the other story lines... (Why The Plane Really Crashed) [...]
Five Assorted Tunes: The Tragically Hip - Fly (from their new album World Container .) "Fly" is one of the songs on which the Hip unfortunately resort to filling in lyrical gaps by singing "That's right", a crutch they're too good to need. It's something that might make the song annoying on repeated listens but so far, it's still one of my favorite songs on the album. First single "In View" is jangly fun. "Family Band" and "Luv"(sic) are also standouts. "The Lonely End Of The [...]
"Constable Benton Fraser. I first came to Chicago on the trail of the killers of my father; and for reasons that don't need explaining at this juncture, I've remained, attached as liason to the Canadian Consulate." Back in 1998ish, I was a young married gal still grinding away at school. We were poor, had no car, and spent most of our time doing homework. Life was pretty crappy, but at least I had Due South reruns on TNT. I taped as many of them as possible, so I could escape to ... [...]

MATTHEW JAY - Draw Aug 28, 2001 Capitol Its too bad Matthew died back in September 2003. I never did find out if it was suicide or murder, but I wish we woulda had a few more albums from this young lad from the UK..At least we have Draw to remember him by. [...]
a band that i dont talk about really ever, but are quietly in my top 5 favorite bands, is canada's the tragically hip . one thing i love about the hip is that there is little to no ego in their music, but its still cool as hell. as great as musicians as they are, lead singer gordon downie really makes the the hip, well the hip. he's reminds me of a crazy history teacher that has some crackpot theories on shit and that has smoked way to much weed or still does. no tragically [...]
