Traveling Wilburys : Handle with Care [ purchase ] 1988 was Roy Orbison's big year. It started with Cinemax special, A Black and White Night, which aired in January. A diverse set of artists, including Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt and Bruce Springsteen, formed an all-star band, backing the man who perfected the art of the rock ballad. Orbison started out as a Sun rocker. After shifting to the nascent Monument label in the early 1960s, he had a long string of hits -- "Pretty Woman," "Blue Bayou," "Only the [...]

I want you to take 3 things away from this interview. First, Mini Mansions know what vajazzling is, and they support it (respect). Second, Mini Mansions have actually seen (and practically saved) a real Koala- and Koala's are fucking cute. Third, Mini Mansions are playing our show, along with Haim and Pratley, on Saturday February 4th at The Bootleg Theater . This is a show you do not want to miss, I promise. Buy your tickets in advance here, they are going quickly: http://ticketf.ly/wK7Rl7 Ok, so your house is on fire, what [...]

Over at The Hits Just Keep Comin' , JB notes the reaction of listeners to Mannheim Steamroller's A Fresh Aire Christmas during a stint DJing at an easy listening station in the late '80s. ("You wouldn't think that the elevator-music audience would use language like we heard on the telephone.") I remember A Fresh Aire Christmas being released for the holidays in 1988. I was a junior in college and it was my second Christmas working in a record store, having earned the [...]
I planned a super-big, in-depth post tonight, but I'm in physical pain (read on for details) so instead here are some random scraps of awesomeness. Hopefully I'll be less disabled in a few days. The Traveling Wilburys Handle With Care (Extended Version) End Of The Line (Extended Version) Not Alone Any More (Remix) It's weird to me that the Traveling Wilburys aren't more fondly remembered, or remembered much at all for that matter. I mean, this was a band with George [...]

Photography by Me ... Well my friends, the time has come. The break the rules and have some fun. It's been a nutty 4+ someodd years over here at tsururadio, we've gone through a lot of changes, did everything from mixtapes to vinyl rips, contests to out and out giveaways, we always tried to have fun and keep ourselves in check that we are just music bloggerin', like 4 kabillion other kids out there on the wide world interconnected super highway of love canals. But as [...]
Stellar musicianship whipped together with a retro rockabilly sound and killer harmonies - that's The Sweetback Sisters.

Last week, we dedicated all of our Song of the Days to the more Super of Rock and Roll acts. There truly aren't enough days in the week, so we rounded it out with a few more tunes to make this most super of playlists. Never before have we pulled together a playlist with this much collaborative talent, and we will be hard pressed to do more going forward. Check out the playlist below, along with a brief explanation of each tune. The Traveling Wilburys - Handle With [...]
Closing out the Super Group week is a tune from probably the band with the most collective star power of any group ever. Despite the big names, the Wilburys just made low key, unassuming tunes. This is the jam that started it all.

Can it be? Has the worst month of the year finally been defeated? Cue the music... Happy March. MP3: Bon Iver: Come Talk To Me (Peter Gabriel) MP3: Sweet Lights: Handle With Care (Traveling Wilburys) MP3: San Cisco: Solitude Is Bliss (Tame Impala) MP3: Wolf Gang: Pyramid Song (Radiohead)

Call it a curveball, a surprise; Smith Westerns new LP, Dye It Blonde , out today on Fat Possum , is above all else an excruciatingly addictive sophomore release that exceeds all expectations built by the Chicago foursome's self-titled, debut album. With the expanse of Jeff Lynne and the Wah of George Harrison, Dye It Blonde comes off as a long-lost Traveling Wilburys project, as if the supergroup was formed a decade earlier than its actual inception, when most involved were near their perceived peaks. Best of luck taking this one off repeat. [...]
Traveling Wilburys - "Handle With Care" I recently got back into the Traveling Wilburys when Dan Meth , well known cartoonist here on Tumblr, posted his drawing of the band . "Oh my god!" I thought. "This band reminds me of my childhood!" I specifically remember listening to their cassette tapes with my parents while driving to the mountains in upstate New York when I was about 5 years old. Oh, nostalgia. For those unfamiliar, Traveling Wilburys is made up of George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. They [...]
Masta Killah - "Brain" MP3/download Hey, I went and got my 27th Top-10-onnnnn, homey. I'll admit that any night during which I listen to "Future World" I'm 'fend to do something WRECKless, up to and including putting Trans Am at the top of my Top-10. It happens though, don't I know it the most? Also, [...]

As far as super groups go there hasn't been a truly great one since the Traveling Wilbury's in my opinion. Monsters of Folk are more like Monsters of mediocrity & the Dead Weather again are just ok, but Fistful of Mercy is one supergroup that may be bucking the trend of average super groups. With Joseph Arthur, Ben Harper & Dhani Harrison this "Super group" has some heavy hitters backing it. Dhani Harrison is the son of George Harrison & looks/sounds so much like his father it's eerie. I don't have much info on Joseph Arthur [...]
A dreamy haze through the Dylan/Harrison/Petty/Orbison/L ynne supergroup's biggest (only) hit.
One of the best Dylan contributions to the Wilburys is a loose, good time tune; a microcosm for the world's greatest supergroup. Add an innuendo laden sing along at the end from some of the biggest names in rock and roll, and you've got yourself a winner.

Last month we posted about the formation Fistful of Mercy, a new band featuring Dhani Harrison, Ben Harper and Joseph Arthur. When we first posted about the group details where sparse, and all we had was one song and a couple of photos to announce the group. Now things are starting to take shape as the band has released another single, along with the release date of 10/5 for their full length album As I Call you Down . The new tune, "Father's Son" is a different look from the band's self titled debut single , [...]
