According to All Music Guide, this original version of Silence Is Golden from the 4 Seasons album Born To Wander was a hit, saying "these [pop-rock tunes] actually are the best songs on the record: the hit "Silence Is Golden," for instance, and "No Surfin' Today," which owes more to the Beach Boys' ballads than it does to the Weavers". But, according the place where the hits go to live (and die) - Billboard magazine - it wasn't a hit until the Tremeloes did a better version in [...]

Music is about making noise kind of by definition, so the number of songs extolling the virtues of silence is surprising. In truth, the only sonically accurate piece about silence is John Cage's 4'33"…but it's hard to find covers of that one that differ much from than the original, for obvious reasons. Man, am I digging the Foley story! This is one of the more entertaining news cycles since Slick Willie was on the prowl. It’s like All The President’s Men or something in the way it keeps getting worse and worse day after day. I’d been scared that Joe Lunchbucket couldn’t follow the Abramoff stuff, but I could draw you pictures of the Foley antics and make you understand. I think Fat Bastard (Denny Hastert) is finished. Hey, don’t forget using some of them harsh methods you guys are so sweet on! [...]
