The Trophy Fire Modern Hearts Greyday Records [2011] Fire Note Says: The Trophy Fire return with another solid batch of soaring indie rock on their sophomore album Modern Hearts . Album Review: It has been three years since The Trophy Fire's excellent debut A Lifetime In The Middle Of The Ocean [2008] , which made our Top 50 that year, so it is nice [...]
The hooks might get them through the door, but Modern Hearts features music barely half as memorable as Trophy Fire thinks it is. Like an alternate dimension look at what Matthew Good Band might have sounded like had it started in the current decade, while eschewing the political depth Good gave to his works, San Francisco's Trophy Fire proves to be an oddity. The band's blend of pop and rock fits in well enough to make initial listens to Modern Hearts no chore, but there's not enough depth here to make the music as memorable as the [...]
Perhaps our favorite album of the week is the debut, self-titled release from Colorado duo, Gauntlet Hair. If you're a fan of Animal Collective, then it's likely you'll dig the sounds of Gauntlet Hair, especially the lead tracks below, "Top Bunk" and "Keep Time." Following right behind GH is the newest single, "Yellow Missing Signs," [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

The Graboid is back this week and with so many great albums to choose from, it comes as a friendly reminder of why this can be such a useful resource for you week in and week out. The 10000-pound gorilla in the room has to be M832s Hurry Up, We're Dreaming - the ambitious double album from Anthony Gonzalez. While an excellent record, there is another release that should not be overlooked and might be just as worthy of your well-earned money - Real Estate's Days . As far as I'm concerned, [...]

J.A. calls Personal the Greek answer to White Lies . Musically there are indeed plenty of similarities, although the vocals on Prayer (what I believe is the only track available so far) are somewhat weak. But definitely something to keep an eye out for! + Prayer

Foreign Born Believe it or not, this was my first Noise Pop Festival . Last year I worked through the whole thing and wasn't really too happy about that. Weird hours will do that to you. Anyways, I kicked off my experience with the pre-party at the California Academy of Science. Not a huge fan of The Frail but a huge fan of science, so I got to geek out with some friends about both music and the Late Cretaceous period. Har Mar [...]
