Waaay more than necessary, but there were oodles of videos that were highly enjoyable this week. I'm especially proud of Laura Gibson, who stepped out from behind her music to star in a haunting video for her title track song, "Le Grande". Also, watch out for the slow-mo ta ta's in the Labyrinth Ear [...]

Last fall we heard the debut from mellow Aussie indie rockers Twerps, a record replete with reverb-heavy, hooky guitar jams. Recently, they put out a Mac Photo Booth-y video for that record's penultimate track, "Through The Day." Check out the video and some upcoming tour dates below. Read More...

Those fresh-faced punks Twerps have released a new video for their single "Through The Day" from their self-titled debut released last year. Watch the video to see the band members play with various aspects of their faces, mixing them up. You'll understand what I mean once you watch. Read more »

Yep, so think of it what you will, but this thing always manages to end up being a pretty massive day as well as creating a bit of controversy. Be it not having any females...to Angus & Julia Stone winning with a song about a big fucking plane. Shannon Noll sang about a big car...didn't [...]

I waited till 2011 to finalize my albums list - all my lists - partially due to laziness, being busy, the holidays... but mainly because I'm not sure what the hurry is. I don't do this for the web traffic (clearly), so I gave myself a little more time to decide than usual. (And as long as this goes up before the Village Voice' s Pazz n' Jop, I don't feel delinquent.) So here's my list, the top five or so have been a lock for almost half a year, but the rest were in flux right till I [...]

A year end albums list is kind of a strange thing, especially when it's one person compiling it. Since this blog is a committe of one, it can become quite capricious. In all likelyhood I wrote about some records this past year that I was overtly enthusiastic about at the time. Now the end of the year rolls around and some of those records are not on the list. "What gives?" you might ask. It's hard to remember which label flew me to Tahiti and which one comp'd my CMJ this year, so I may have forgotten to include a [...]

wowz. This has been so amazingly difficult. It's been a year of evolution in regards to my music taste - a year when maamf featured perhaps more local stuff than ever before, and a year when the local scene in general was pretty freaking strong. It's also been a year where my taste has gotten [...]

1. Royal Headache - Never Again from Royal Headache ( R.I.P. Society / Goner ) Some records are great without making you want to be a part of them, and that's fine. It doesn't make them less great. But some are so exuberant and rich and alive-sounding that they make you want to sing along to every song at every show and be involved and there's something so special about records like that and what I'm saying is that Royal Headache 's debut album is like that. There [...]
We've already brought you our songs of the year and Texas albums of the year, so now it's time for the much anticipated albums of the year list. I'm sure many of you will notice some big names off the list and you will be ready to plead your case about why we are wrong. We'll hear ya out... Feel free to drop us a comment with your own list or just to debate with us. Follow the jump for list. 50) The New Tigers - s/t 49) Secret Cities [...]
On their self-titled first album, Australia's Twerps take all the best pieces of their uneven EP and flesh them out into a breezy, promising debut. (more...)

Once November hits, every one enters an end of year stupor. The short work week before Thanksgiving suddenly becomes the longest three days of the year as you allow your mind to shut down and focus on some good time off. This attitude will likely continue until January 1, 2012, so at the very least, you should make sure you have some good music to soundtrack it. Here's our favorite songs from the month of November. Listen and download below. Hear the full stream: November Mixtape // Quit Mumbling DOWNLOAD INDIVIDUAL [...]

The self-titled debut album by Australians Twerps is out this month. Check out the wide-eyed, sunkissed guitar-pop of 'Dreamin'.

I am the kind of person that lets themselves get very caught up in the stresses of really, just making it through each day. But every once in awhile you stumble upon a song, and for it's brief time of existence you can take a deep breath and realize that all of the bad shit is just that...shit. Twerps' song "Coast to Coast" has an incredible way of putting things in perspective, of helping you remember that if you don't take the time to enjoy "the sun in your eyes" well, than your letting alot of the best moments pass [...]
