You know how some people are kind of creepy, but in a good way? Actually, uh, I don't really know who that would be. Steve Buscemi maybe? If so, then Twilight Sad 's newest release "Another Bed" sure is a Buscemi of a song. The Scottish trio is set to release their third album in February, and it looks like we're in for the same heavy darkness you would expect from musicians who share a latitude with Scandinavia. Don't hit the snooze button yet though, because "Another Bed" definitely steps it up a bit. James [...]

In their first two albums (20072s 'Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters' and 20092s 'Forget the Night Ahead'), alt-indie rockers the Twilight Sad seemed to enjoy the cold embrace of the darkness and indeed, music reviewers have sort of come to expect the darker side of life from this Scottish band. A quick review of the song titles from their 2012 effort entitled No One Can Ever Know seems to support their continuance down this path: 'Dead City', 'Sick' (acoustic video here , Cheryl's review of the single here ), Nil', 'Don't [...]
Scottish trio The Twilight Sad have been making straight-up anthemic jams since 2003, and "Another Bed," the first single from their upcoming third record No One Can Ever Know , is the band's foray into updated post-punk you and your dad can get into. [[ This is a content summary only. Resuming the process of writing about new music after a mega-year-in-review blowout is kind of like showing up to work in the morning following an evening of getting hammered at an all-night holiday party (not that anyone on our staff knows anything about that). Nonetheless, our job is to keep you informed on new music, regardless of how hungover on 2011 we might be. 2012 promises new releases from a number of big-name acts (Animal Collective and The xx, to name two), and, like every year before it, is bound to be filled with surprising new acts that grab our [...]

Facebook To promise that something is coming in "early 20123 may be sufficient detail when that date is still a ways off on the horizon, but at a certain point it will eventually actually be early 2012 - as it is now - and when that time arrives you'd best have a little more to offer. That first part of that scenario was most of 2011 for London's Clock Opera , who despite sounding more than ready for prime time when I first saw them last SXSW and reconfirmed at Iceland Airwaves [...]

2011 was an amazing year for music. Some old favorites stayed the course or broke new trail, some new bands poked their heads into the scene and a few acts even kicked the door in. 2012 promises to be no different. Some of our favorite bands have either set release dates or tickled our senses with rumors of a potential release. There are some interesting questions that will be raised with this years releases though. Will this be fun.'s breakout year? Can James Mercer get old fans to forgive him for firing half his crew? Will Andrew Bird continue his [...]

I've long pestered my brother about his band doing an INXS cover – preferably something off Welcome to Wherever You Are (such a good album) and preferably the song "Not Enough Time." Maybe that'll happen in the future, but in the meantime The Twilight Sad is offering a dark, lo-fi version of the INXS song "Never Tear Us Apart," from the equally excellent 1987 album Kick . It's available as a free Christmas gift – inspired by its appearance on the soundtrack [...]
Here's the third (and final, you'll be pleased to hear) round up of the year's music. Or at least the year's music that I could give a toss about. Parts One and Two here and here . Not with his looks, of course (he's hardly Feist, [...]

[[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

One thing you do not do is go into your first listen of a new Twilight Sad album with expectations, because the chances are you're going to be completely thrown. They're the kind of band who, rather than building on what's gone before, prefer to switch things up with every album they put out. No One Can Ever Know is as much developing on the old as it is ushering in the new: a sound that is more claustrophobic than ever before. "We were already progressing toward a sparser sound, [one] with a colder, slightly militant feel," principal songwriter [...]
OK, so we've already had the top 20 albums, here we look at the top tracks (that don't feature on the best albums) of the year... It's been a really strong year of releases, with a lot of sifting required, however after much distillation, here we present our top 20... 20: The Strokes - Taken for A Fool [...]

Well here we are again, with lists this time generated by yourselves rather than me. With one exception none of these songs would have been anywhere near my personal Festive Fifty, and the one which would have made it is forbidden due to an obvious clash of interests. It's weird, but it does at the very least go to show that the idea of the blogosphere being just a great big mutual back-slapping exercise, with everyone telling everyone else just how awesome they are most of the time, isn't entirely accurate. Still, just because I am an opinionated [...]
