Sure, a lot of bands have a guitarist, a singer, a drummer and/or a bassist. And a few indie bands are changing it up-harpists, accordionists, even ukelele players have cropped up in recent years. But how many Uncensored Interview-Approved, Must-See CMJ Marathon Artists are dedicated to the lofty kazoo? Only one. One awesome one. See The Two Man Gentlemen Band extoll the virtues of this maligned instrument before you check out their sweet kazoo solos at CMJ: Make sure to come back to blog.UncensoredInterview.com [...]
So, I like country music, especially the more gospel-inspired old tymey music. But a major problem with liking this music (for me) is that it's mainly about one guy. Jesus. And I am not Christian. But I am hard pressed to not sing along to fire and brimstone song about how the time is coming when the sinner must die. It's kind of like white rich frat boys singing "Straight Out of Compton..." I guess. This is why it warmed my heart that the Two Man Gentlemen Band, who take the old tyme to heart, wish they had written [...]

If only all bands could feature a tenor kazoo. I had the pleasure of being introduced to the greatest banjo/upright bass/kazoo duo on earth the other night: NYC's Two Man Gentlemen Band . They played a crackerjack show at Cambridge's historic Club Passim , and I can highly recommend the live Gentlemen experience: their look and sound is like something out of a time capsule - the kind of delightful olde-tyme thing you'd expect to hear pumping out of an old Victrola - but with just enough modern touches and double entendres in the [...]

I love holidays that change the day of the week year to year. Having the 4th fall on a Friday, creates one huge weekend that starts Thursday and doesn't end until you stop partying on Sunday. Some may head to the beach (like me) and suffer through some crappy cover bands all weekend. Even though Philly is the city where our independence was declared, the pickings for a good show are light, but our nation's capital is happening, and there are a few shows elsewhere. So put down the fireworks and head to a show. Kicking it all [...]

Way back when the Two Gentlemen Band sent me their album for review ( read it here ), they included a kazoo in the press kit. Duke Jr. loves to play the thing. Here are some songs that feature said instrument. Two Men Gentlemen Band ∞ William Howard Taft Ani DiFranco ∞ Kazoointoit Coconut & The Duke ∞ Pitchfork'd (demo) Kat Flint ∞ Anticlimax The Terrordactyls ∞ [...]
I was going to take the day off from posting but then the universe conspired to place these songs in my proverbial virtual lap. "Andrew Jackson" is a song off the forthcoming disc called Of Great And mortal Men: 43 Songs About 43 U.S. Presidencies (lots more info about the project here via Pitchfork). In a nutshell these 43 songs were written as part of a song writing exercise undertaken by Christian Kiefer , Jefferson Pritcher and Mathew Gerken . The song below has studio contributions from Califone. [...]

Imagine They Might Be Giants as an Americana band and you would have something similar to The Two Man Gentleman Band . They just released Heavy Petting on Tuesday and for one day only, they are offering the whole disc for free. A sample track is below and you can get the whole disc here . William Howard Taft
Okay, I had no real intention of doing anything Valentine's Day related. No, I do not have anything against the day, I just really didn't wanna think that hard about it, having just come off of vacation and having been sick ever since. I mean, yes, it's a Hallmark holiday, and no, you shouldn't have to rely on said Hallmark holiday to remember to show your significant other that you love them. Still, it's still nice to show your significant other that, indeed, you do love them, and Valentine's Day not only gives you that opportunity, it doubles as a [...]

When we threw open the velvet curtains and tossed the dustcloths off the furniture last week and decided to reignite this project, Pinkie and I immediaely started digging through The Slush Pile, a/k/a a GIANT Shu Uemura shopping bag hidden behind my closet door full of over a year's worth of promo CDs (there's hundreds in there, at least!). We've actually received quite a few albums in the mail recently after a bit of a lull, so we thought we'd come clean and mention a few of the more interesting ones that have crossed our threshold recently [...]
As musicians and celebrities continue to throw their weight behind their preferred presidential candidates, let's hear The Two Man Gentleman Band out as they tell us a thing or two about their favorite oversized head of state. Let's not forget another TMGB Super Tuesday-appropriate jam, " Stuff Your Ballot Box. " Befriend these fine men on the myspace . Super.

Andy Bean on banjo and The Councilman on bass are the two men who make up The Two Man Gentlemen Band . They are releasing their third album " Heavy Petting " on February 12. Andy and The Councilman are master kazooists who write songs laced with idiosyncratic innuendos . Their music is as snappy as their suits . If you get a chance to catch their live show, The Duke recommends. They hand out kazoos to everyone, which can only lead to a good time. [...]
Sporting fancy hats and tailored suits, The Two Man Gentlemen Band might bring back memories of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Swingers . Listening to their music will certainly make you ask what ever happened to those Squirrel Nut Zippers guys? The two men referred to in the band's name are Andy Bean , banjoist, huckster and master of ceremonies, and his friend The Councilman on bass. Each is a master kazooist and badminton enthusiast, and together they combine hot jazz, old-time country, [...]

By the time we got through the After The Jump Fest back in August, the future of the music blogger collective was uncertain, but in the past few weeks leading up to the CMJ Music Marathon (next week! ack!) the name has come back in full force with three shows during the (admittedly already) hectic week of (too much) music - even including an official showcase (Wednesday @ the Music Hall of Williamsburg). I may be a little biased because I had far more to do with one of these shows than the others, [...]
