Reuniting for the first time in 20 years to celebrate the eighth year of Columbus Discount Records' existence, the True Believers are: Mike Rep Tommy Jay The General Nudge Squidfish Carla Lust I'll spare you my own version of the True Believers' back story and instead point you to a description (complete with Amrep corrections) here and a 2005 interview with Mike Rep . Suffice it to say, it's a pretty big deal that these guys (and girl) are reuniting in two days. Leave it to CDR. [...]

So I've finally emerged to add my list of favorite records from this past year to the pool of billions of other lists. Apologies all around for the lack of activity around here lately, but the end of the year is always a busy one for me and hopefully I can get the ball rolling once again at the start of the new year when things start to calm down. Anyway, here are my favorite releases, many of which who read the blog have probably already seen/read about/heard already...but oh well. Some singles that I enjoyed... [...]

I stopped into Carabar to have a drink with Ron Barker. Someone on our message board had been taking shots at Ron and his bar, Carabar, this week. Ron requested that he could use our public forum to address his detractors, and beyond. Keep in mind Dick's Picks was playing while this was being typed/ Ron Barker Sean Woosley, I would call you a washed up old douchebag. But I am not sure you were unwashed to begin with. Second of all, [...]

MP3: the Unholy Two-White Devil MP3:the Unholy Two-Sullivan Killed Benoit Say White Devil. I don't trust you. I may have speaking a bit blanket last week when I told Waka Flocka Flame that he was the last punk rock artist standing, Especially flawed when I live in Columbus Ohio, home of Vile Gash and Columbus Discount Records , (ie 2010 I'm still fucking with Necropolis) I apologize but what do you do when Waka Flocka Flame is yelling at you? In all short-sided, blatant negative hubris [...]

It's that time of year again, when grilling meat, arm wrestling, and indie rock somehow end up together in awkward sentences (like this one). This weekend is the seventh annual Columbus Discount Records BBQ, where the local label shares the wealth and gives you a wealth of local/international talent to gaze upon for as free as possible. This year's version of the tradition entails two star-studded rock shows (Friday night at The Summit and Saturday night at Carabar) as well as a multi-faceted get-together Saturday afternoon at CDR HQ (corner of Oak and Parsons, just up [...]
From the horses mouth - In order to help out our friend Ben Hamilton we are making this saturday's show a benefit. The show at Summit is also a birthday party for the salty old helmsman of the bar (yrs truly) with "performances" by some Ohio favorites... Guinea Worms, Unholy Two, We March, and Grafton. Strongest Man Alive, Righteous Buck and the Skull Scorchers, and Washington Beach Bums will be at Bobo. 5 bucks for both shows, pay at either door. the set times will be staggered out so you can stagger between them. [...]

Pictured: Warpaint@Summit Rebirth motherfucker! Yeah, here we go again. A TON of cool shit has happened since we last got together in this official capacity and I'm not gonna tell you anything about it! I will tell you that Duffy made me take some online journalism and creative writing and photography courses while I was on hiatus and as you're about to see it did absolutely no good! I will also tell you I picked a good week to decide to start doing this crap again. Super Desserts, Margot and the Nuclear So and [...]

America's Number 1 Source for News, Weedsteeler.com is sending two of our finest to an inside-job city in style with a party at Bristol Bar this evening. The music will be provided by the usual cast of total shit-maniacs (sorry only Columbus staffers) , Chris Lutzko of the Unholy Two , and Sargent D of Stuff You Will Hate.Com / MetalInquisiton . The event is hosted by CJ Townsend

I made a cassette dub of the La Bamba soundtrack when I was in high school. The movie was pretty good (from what I can remember) and did a bang-up job of showing the early days of rock n' roll. Simpler times, simpler music, much of it with a rockabilly slant. Something about Heavy Trash's third album, Midnight Soul Serenade , makes me think of La Bamba , like maybe had the duo (Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray) been around back in the '50s, they'd have done the Winter Dance [...]

Before we get things started, just reminding everyone check out Loud Loop Radio tomorrow, Saturday, September 26, at 1 p.m. CST on Radio DePaul . It's going to be awesome! Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled program... ...And You Will Know us by the Trail of Dead ...And You Will Know us by the Trail of Dead's sixth album The Century of Self is by far its most luscious and grandiose [...]

Pictured: my name on a list@Ravari Room courtesy of Thee Mike O This is anti-shitty band, death of the whatever kind of genre that includes the likes of brokeNCYDE , Millionaires , Attack Attack! , 3oh!3 , et al. Look, I was a dumb kid once too and my musical taste to this day is most certainly questionable, but how in the world are people falling for this shit? Are the eight graders doing heroin these days? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. That said, if any of the aforementioned bands would like to be featured on [...]

In this week's paper, you can check out my review of the seven-year anniversary concert at Skully's featuring seven local bands: the Whiles, Two Cow Garage, Deathly Fighter, Good Company, Bush League All-Stars, Psychedelic Horseshit and Unholy Two. I also wrote a feature about all the behind-the-scenes turmoil accompanying this year's Hate Michigan Rally with the very much alive Dead Schembechlers, Watershed, and, oddly, the All American Rejects. For some reason that one isn't online yet, but I'll put a link up when it (hopefully) goes live. Oh, and preview blurbs for Marnie Stern [...]
Pictured above is Chris Ludsko of the Unholy Two , and Atmosphere producer Ant. Atmosphere showed up to So What Wednesdays at Cafe Bourbon Street after their show at the Newport. Somehow Chris Ludsko and Ant ended up being the last two doods in the bar. When its was explained to Ludsko that Ant may look like a creep similar, he is in fact and indie rap producer that has prolly sold a million records. Ludsko said "so the caption should be two hit makers." Because I was able to pick Ant out of a crowd, I [...]
