Islands is the pet project of Nick Thorburn-formerly of the Unicorns-and Anti- has seen fit to put up a stream of the band's new album, which is set to berelease today! If you have listened to the songs they have released thus far from the album "This is not a song" and "Hallways" you should have fairly good indication of what you're in store for here. There is a real catchy friendliness to the tracks here, which is largely due to the slower nature of them. It is definitely a light avant-pop album, but there isn't anything inherently wrong with that.

A couple of Friday nights ago we demolished every character-staining suspicion that we were having a "Sober January" in the Unicorn in Camden. There were also a couple of bands playing - Carpathia and Bleeding Oath - so we wrote about them. Six things we learned while trying to get our noggins round this noodling prog metal extravaganza 1. Bleeding Oath are young. Like... really, REALLY young. Like... statutory rape young. Which makes them very [...]

Brazzabelle is big up and comer and resident of both Avalon and Voyeur in California, which are two of the biggest clubs on the west coast. She is on the PIE Artists roster which includes many other promising producers such as moombah sensation JWLS , Van Toth, and Mumbai Science to name just a few. The mixtape features her new track titled 'Elevator' [...]
In this edition of This Book is a Song , I am revisiting something I initially read several years ago: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. Though I liked it the first time, it felt more relevant and enjoyable this time around. And I had some fun thinking about what music connects to it.

By now, we should all be aware of Island's upcoming album A Sleep & A Forgetting with Anti- . The middle man in the picture is Nick Thorburn, also known as Nick Diamonds. Astrohenge II EyesOfSound 03 November 2011 by Hugh Platt Astrohenge's second album sounds very much like how the scene depicted on its cover looks - that of a giant, highly-developed space culture invading a primitive planet with the intent of imposing enlightenment on them via the worship of giant, intergalactic riffs. And like such an [...]
We went and watched Saviours in a wicked pub in Camden. Astrohenge launched their new album, II as well. We love Saviours. METAL!!!
This post might come off to you as super depressing and/or super sentimental, so I apologize and/or you're welcome. There have been many bands who've come and gone without much notice, but then there were those bands that announced their break up and you weeped for a few days straight with their best album on repeat (No? Just me? Oh...). You know this is an ominous fact that's bound to happen to most of your favorite bands (unless they're from the 60s/70s; the drugs were different then). It's something that we all must accept and savor while we [...]
Rare Monk resemble a mix of Celtic punk, avant-garde rock in the vein of Man Man, and southern gypsy-pop complete with quick-moving strings and snarling vocals. For a more concise comparison, think Modest Mouse with an extra shot of caffeine

Upon hearing the intro to "Tokyo", you would think that eighties electro heroes Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox had reformed under this surreal guise. However you are listening to the latest offering from self-bracketed 'dark electropop / big strings' duo Emmy's Unicorn. The band, a chance creation of singer Emmy-Lou Kay and Welsh producer Mr Ronz, have been around less than a year, yet within that period have clocked up airtime on kudos-heavy BBC6music and a BBC Session, complete with string quartet, available for your senses on YouTube. Read more..
Click image to download full album Sounds like: Yeasayer, Animal Collective, The Unicorns "YAWN - YumYum" What's so good? Alright shufflers, I need to tell you about this band YAWN. They are four guys from Chicago who are combining so many different avant-garde influences of yesteryears and today's underground music movement. Oh, and... their music will not make you yawn in the least. [...]

Aleks and the Ramps - 'Middle Aged Unicorn On Beach With Sunset' ( mp3 ) They had my favourite Aus album of 2009 with Midnight Believer , and now they're back! Also, that album is going to be re-released on the same day as their (still untitled?) newbie next Feb 14th (great Valentines Day pressie). Looking forward to some more barritone-quirky-folktronica-p op. Also, they're playing at The Gate in Sydney next month if you're around. a leksandtheramps.com/
