As I am sure that most of you are well aware, I am pretty good friends with the Glasgow Podcart crew. So last week I sent them a cheeky wee email asking if they could send me the MP3s of a session they recorded with Craig B from The Unwinding Hours, they were kind enough to oblige and they even said I could share the songs with all of you. Ain't that kind of them! Recorded in Halina from the Podcart's living room, the session is up to stream now on this weeks podcast. It also features a wee interview [...]

Firesuite - You're An Ocean Deep, My Brother ALBUM REVIEW: Firesuite - You're An Ocean Deep, My Brother delivers on all sorts of levels. Imagine postal workers being let loose in an empty warehouse full of your unopened mail. With so many possibilities in these communications this band is here to make the rounds. Their stories are told through chilling guitar notes and none are spared during the assault of this shoegaze firestorm and a fire suit is indeed needed! The machine-gun tactics of the track "Sammy Davis [...]
Video des Jahres The Grand Spectacular - Being a Dickhead's Cool Konzert/Liveact/Auftritt des Jahres Hier gibt es gleich zwei [...]

When I sent emails out to all of the bands that I have featured this year as part of my Scots Way-Hay posts I honestly didn't expect to get much of a response. Turns out that I was completely wrong, as I have been inundated by bands wanting to share what's been floating their boat [...]

I have no interest in listening to anything by Kanye West . I'm probably missing the boat on The Black Keys . Surfer Blood , Sleigh Bells , Best Coast , The National , Arcade Fire all got cursory plays on the iPod but not enough to land them a spot on this list. I'd love to say that Superchunk made one of the most welcomed comebacks of 2010 but every time I hit the local indie record store, they were out of the CD and I never downloaded it [...]
So here we are with the second of my series of posts getting some of the artists that did interviews for us to tell me their albums of 2010. Our artists taking part this week include A Band Called Quinn, Burnt Island, Come on Gang!, RM Hubbert and The Last Battle. We've got quite an [...]

For months now I have been mulling over my albums of 2010, not that I think it matters much in the grand scale of things, but it means something to me. This year I have decided to make things a bit easier on myself, so instead of going for my top 50 as I had done for the past two years, I am going with just ten. That I am not diluting it too much, plus I won't be boring you all with a never ending list. So here we go, here are my personal favourite albums of this past [...]
"Peaceful Liquid Shell" is taken from The Unwinding Hours' self-titled debut LP, which came out back in February. Made up of footage from the band's European tour back in April, its a haunting, monochromatic piece that complements the melancholy track well. The Unwinding Hours are touring round Europe at the moment, including a performance TONIGHT [...]

Iain Cook and Craig B., former members of Glasgow alternative/post-rock band Aereogramme have formed another band, called The Unwinding Hours. To merely call their music beautiful, fragile, melodic, passionate and heart-wrenching wouldn't even begin to scratch the surface. TDOA writer Amy attempts to unfold the beautiful origami of The Unwinding Hours. TDOA: What do you think makes your music different than Aerogramme? Clearly different sound, but what makes it fundamentally different? Craig: I think The Unwinding Hours aren't that far removed from Aereogramme's last album "My Heart Has [...]

In just under two weeks The Unwinding Hours will be playing their last Scottish gig for 2010. Having released one the albums of the year, the band are set to play a one off gig in The Auditorium at Oran Mor in Glasgow. And as if that wasn't special enough, the band will also be joined for the evening by The Twilight Sad (playing an acoustic set) and RM Hubbert. The evening promises to be a real one off. If you've never been upstairs in Oran Mor, then trust me it's quite a spectacular venue. Having only ever been [...]

Coming up in October is a gig that looks to be a little bit special. Back in February The Unwinding Hours released their debut album , and with it made sure that the bar for the end of year "Best of 2010" lists would be set high. Now they are planning a bit of a break to work on a follow up, but not before playing a few gigs. The Unwinding Hours - Knut [...]
1. Magic Kids I'm not entirely convinced the Magic Kids are for real. The group's debut, Memphis, due in stores in late August, sounds like an obscure gem put out by a California high school glee club in 1974. Looking for influences? Try The Beach Boys, The Hollies, The Partridge Family, and The Turtles. DOWNLOAD: Magic Kids - "Summer" 2. I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House Alex from In Music We Trust has been singing this [...]

I'm sure most of you are aware that today is the summer solstice. The day when the sun stands still. The longest day of the year when the summer is at its brightest. Todays solstice has certainly lived up to it's billing so far, it's been yet another fantastic day weather wise. So to celebrate the summer getting into full swing and the beginning of the long, long summer nights, barbecues and parties here is a list of summer based tracks i had lying around on the laptop. [...]

More deliciousness from the TDOA offices. These are the best songs that crossed our path in the past week. Only two?! Yes, because these are the only new ones that we stand behind. No forced-down-your-throat, all-the-cool-kids-like-it, record-company-offered-us-a-bo x-of-chocolates drivel. Who are they: The Unwinding Hours Where are they from: Glasgow, Scotland Where can I find out more about them: http://www.myspace.com/theunwi ndinghours The Song: Who are they: Thrushes Where are they from: Baltimore, MD Where can I find out more about them: [...]
What actually constitutes a music festival these days? At first glance TIGERFEST seems to tick the usual boxes, being an annual event (this is its seventh year) that plays host to a variety of acts for the summer crowds. However, the shows that come under its banner are not only individually ticketed, but spread out over 17 days, six indoor venues and three cities that are a mere 130 miles apart. Perhaps it would be helpful if we look at Tigerfest less as a festival and [...]
Regular followers of Dear Scotland will already know a lot about Meursault through Matthew Young's articles. The band are a major part of the Edinburgh music scene and Matthew's Song by Toad Record Label and their new album is released next month. This week they embark on their first European tour. Vic has the details. Meursault [...]
Camera Obscura and Frightened Rabbit will both feature at the Coachella Festival in California this weekend alongside the likes of Gorillaz, Jay-Z and Thom Yorke. Radio 1's Vic Galloway tells us why that's his Scottish gig of the week alongside the only listing of every Scottish band on tour this week outside the UK. Coachella is [...]
