We continue to turn over stones, and shake the bushes of our mp3 archives, to grab our favorite tracks of each month in 2011. Sadly, quite a few of our faves that were hosted elsewhere have been pulled, but there are still some pretty rad tracks available. This is March in Our Year In Sound. It was a quite a month. That Ghost; To Like You Codes In Clouds; Look Back, Look Up [...]

Holden McNeil was only like 66% correct when he told Jay and Silent Bob that the "Internet is a communication tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another". He forgot to mention the ability to digitally keep tabs on every move of our favorite bands. Using the web's many social networking tools, Brooklyn's The Vandelles have

I'll be leaving in approximately three hours from Cleveland, weaving my way through the northern scenic regions of Pennsylvania until I finally hit the brakes in Buffalo. After a bout with a basket of chicken wings, the lady and I are headed into the land of Ice Hockey and Rush. We're having a layover in Niagara. I hear them falls are romantic. In any event, by my calculations, this is at least a good 7-8 hours worth of road-trippin' over the next 24 hours. I can't be the only one hitting the open road today/tomorrow with [...]

As I continue onward with my NXNE 'bands to watch while drinking alcohol' list, I continue to come across snags in the scheduling. There are so many killer acts playing down the street from each other at the same time. The proximity of location means nil in these situations. The upshot is that there are enough bands to go around. These two bands are going to be difficult for me to get to, but that's due neither in part to our lack of ambition, nor our desire to break a [...]
Your dose of NYC psychedelic pop at NXNE comes in the form of The Vandelles. Their sound has elements of both Pulp and The Jesus & Mary Chain. Check out the video for "Summer Fling": NXNE performance: Date: June 18th Time: 10:00pm Venue: Comfort Zone The Vandelles' website
Surf rock is so 2010, man...right? Well, not if bands like Brooklyn four-piece The Vandelles keep finding fresh ways to present it. While the idea of blending sunny 60s sounds with walls of psychedelic noise isn't new, the Beach Boys meet The Jesus and Mary Chain approach the band takes on their self released 2011 EP Summer Fling is...
The Vandelles (listen to songs on their GigMaven profile) have been around Brooklyn for some time and we think they are just peachy. They played a handfuls of shows at SXSW, unfortunately I didn't make it out to see them, but it's created some buzz for the band. The psychadelically chill quartet has toured with both The Warlocks and The Black Angels, which is pretty incredible.
It's spring, and time for the Sounds of Spring mixtape for this week's Sunday 25 Mix. We spent some time picking the songs for this mix that consists of mostly indie, but some classic rock as well. There are a far amount of tracks that are mostly instrumental, including songs from Animal Collective, Atlas Sound, [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

The Vandelles - Summer Fling The Vandelles - My Time

Surf/Psych quartet The Vandelles are on a roll. After the release of a well-received self-titled debut EP and tours with The Warlocks and The Black Angels, their full-length debut, Del Black Aloha , earned the band a headlining slot Iceland Airwaves 2010, where, by all accounts, they blew the roof off the place, almost singlehandedly saving that country's faltering economy. The Vandelles are currently writing material for a proper follow up to Del Black Aloha , but with a official SXSW showcase [...]
