Hey kids, I've been planning this for a few weeks now, so I guess it's time. I was going to try to wait until after XXX-Mas, but that's not gonna happen. What we have here is ThaBombShelter's Top Ten Two-Thousand (T)Six. Hopefully you'll see some artists here that you won't find on some other blogs. If you agree with my choices, disagree (as if!), please, feel free to comment and let me know. This is a collection of albums that were released this past year that have been able to continuously blow my mind, no [...]

The Veils Nux Vomica . It's the album that I've enjoyed more often than any other this year (and if you're a regular visitor to *Sixeyes, you likely know that I'm not big on lists, so this is my best of list). Now I'm not saying it's the best album of the year, I don't have the gall to think I know enough about music, or have heard enough of the music released this year, to even begin to approach that level of gall. This is my favourite. And I only realized that after hearing the [...]

Is it worth the import?? We think so. This week's Friday 8-Track consists of 8 UK artists whose LPs won't see a release here in the US until 2007, if at all. But for those of us who just can't wait, here's a little preview of some records you may want to drop a few extra quid for. Check out tracks from Lily Allen, The Veils, The Fratellis, Jarvis, and more after the jump!! FYI: The Artist name is linked to their homepage. The Track Name is linked to the MP3 file. [...]

Let's get some of the details out of the way. Finn Andrews, the man behind The Veils, spent his formative years split between London and New Zealand. His father, Barry Andrews, was a member of this little band called XTC, perhaps you've heard of them. The first album released by The Veils was 2004's Runaway. It's 2006, and we have a new disc, Nux Vomica. I don't have my old college Latin text book, but I'm guessin' that title has something to do with vomitting Latin. Now, let's [...]

E’ buio. Guido senza fretta.

the veils "i don't know if it's like stimulation.. its just kind of, i don't know... whenever i come here, whenever i come home, i just feel kind of better and clearer and i find it easier to write. its something about new zealand and devonport specifically - it does kind of harbour a real sadness. well, not a sadness, but an undercurrent of something i always feel really strongly when i come back

The Veils Nux Vomica [Rough Trade - Sept 11 2006] *Sixeyes Score: 9 out of 10 Review by Jenn Rogers I don't ever start writing reviews during the first listen to an album, particularly not when the first listening of an album is on a public bus with less than fantastic headphones. The fact I feel compelled to do this says a lot about exactly how good the album is. Okay, so I didn't actually
Ok, so, yeah, we might have missed some of our favorite people and favorite bands at the Pitchfork Festival over the weekend, but goodness, some of those sweaty crowd shots made me quite grateful not to be there! (Heck, we didn't even bother to hit any of the shows in town this weekend either, it really was to bloody hot to do anything productive...) Anyway, there's tons of great Pitchfork recaps and photo grouings floating around -- the coverage at Gaper's Block (from our pal Matt) is quite nice, and Chicagoist's Flickr sets ( one , [...]
The Veils latest, Nux Vomica, will certainly be one of my favourites of the year. And I can guarantee that Be Your Own Pet will not be anywhere near that list. Sorry to pick on those guys, but they were the first 'disliked' band to pop into my fevered skull. From Nux Vomica + jesus for the jugular Some Bits and Pieces Once again I must thank Anthony and The Hype Machine And don't be too
I liked The Veils from the first moment I heard them. Lead singer/songwriter Finn Andrews with his rough- sugar vocals and songs that evoke times past in their absence of material objects and popular culture, stood out from the rest of the crowd. The album was 2004's The Runaway Found, but coming soon, (Sept. 11th) will be the new record, Nux Vomica (Rough Trade). A record which will, from the
