Walk Don’t Run was the debut album released in 1960 by the instrumental Rock and Roll group The Ventures. Coming from Tacoma, Washington The Ventures had a big hit with the song “Walk Don’t Run”, it went to number two on the Billboard singles charts, but the beginnings of this song and album is a story just as impressive as their forty plus album career. The band had its beginnings in the late 50s, 1958 to be exact. Bob Bogle first met Don Wilson in 1958 at a car dealership of all places, and after finding [...]

Only three days into 2013, and Ty Segall is already making noise. After releasing three LP's last year as a solo artist, with White Fence , and as the Ty Segall Band, the San Francisco native announced his newest project; Fuzz. Segall actually sits in on the drums this time around, while Ty Segall Band guitarist Charles Moonheart plays his other half. The duo's first single "This Time I Got a Reason"/"Fuzz's Fourth Dream" is already sold out, but you can stream both tracks for yourself below.

Repost: Why do all this stuff again? Monsters are misunderstood - it's tough to frighten people and terrorize the countryside day in, and day out. Surely monsters have to unwind; as the magazine cover suggests, they may enjoy a little recreational hula-hoop activity. Or they may just like to rock out. Sorry, we've been a little into our day jobs lately - that, and listening endlessly to Neil Young. So we just noticed Halloween's a few weeks away, and that is always a great opportunity for some cool rock tunes. So here you go - don't be scared! MP3: "Astro Zombies" by the Misfits MP3: "Dance of Doom" by Frankie Stein & His Ghouls MP3: "Red Temple Prayer (Two Headed Dog)" by Roky [...]

As you might have noticed, this week we're running a Spotlight on Colorado duo South of France based around the release of their debut album, Another Boring Sunrise , which is out now on iTunes . Having already premiered a video for first single "Tribecca" , an exclusive stream of the album and an interview , we're now presenting one of our favorite features: a Desert Island Discs . You can read the original pitch from 2010 here [...]
Genre: Techno, Deep House. debut release by THOMAS GREY on SOLEEs Parquet Recordings! 2 brilliant melodic techno tracks and a very strong remix by PATRICK KUNKEL (COCOON REC.)!

Saturday, 14 April, will see the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic. There is little need for me to go into the story of that most famous of all maritime disasters. Movies will be shown on TV (including a new mini-series), the History Channel will take time off from Nazis, aliens and truckers to provide all sorts of perspectives, and all kinds of background and new insights will be offered in newspaper, magazine and Internet articles. So, here I add to the saturation with a mix of songs about maritime disasters, including several that record the sinking [...]

mp3: The 2000 Pound Bee Pt.2 mp3: The 2000 Pound Bee Pt.1 There's a lot written about early electric guitar fuzz. Tunes from Link Wray, Marty Robins and Ann Margret all get a mention, but when it comes to the first use of a specifically designed fuzzbox in a truly fuzzy song, the conversation generally settles on today's fuzzified selections. The Ventures, a pioneering surf rock group from the Pacific Northwest, inspired many others are are still, impressively, the highest selling instrumental band of all time. On hearing [...]
It's colder than yesterday, far more seasonal at 38°, but I don't mind. Neither does Gracie. I think it's her favorite sort of day. She runs outside round and round the yard then comes in panting and walks over to me for a pat. I find her fur cold to the touch, especially her ears. Winter is the easiest season to see because the sun and sky have hues different from any other season. The blue is sharper and the sun looks far more muted. When I look out the window, I can see that cold and feel it [...]

Ho ho ho, assholes! With the Christmas holiday coming up this weekend and we're already two days deep up on the Hanukkah tip, it's very much time to drop the annual The Decibel Tolls Holiday Mixer . You know the deal - a carefully curated collection of skewed, brain-burning, monolithic Christmas gems that totally sleigh. Get it?! Sleigh? Slay? It's a homophone, you guys! Ugh... never mind. Tough crowd. Anyway, these yule-time canticles exalted on high can crush shopping malls and magically spike egg nog, true story. For this year's mixer, you'll recognize you'll recognize some jams from previous year's mixers, [...]

Paul Revere & The Raiders: Macy's Window [ purchase ] The Ventures: Sleigh Ride [ purchase ] Two Northwest rock'n'roll legends leave their mark on the holiday season. The Raiders' cut comes from one of the most bizarre Christmas albums of all time, 1967's A Christmas Present...And Past. While the kids are enchanted by the window decorations, Dad is getting hot and bothered by the elves in mini-skirts. [...]
