Kiki from King Midas Sound has recently reworked 'Venus in Furs,' one of the landmark tracks from The Velvet Underground's 1967 debut The Velvet Underground & Nico . The modern twist is backed by Evian Christ's 'Thrown Like Jacks.' The cover will be featured as the final track to Kiki's upcoming Hitomimixtape . Listen below.
Kiki from King Midas Sound works a little magic and adds some flair to this take on The Velvet Underground 's classic "Venus In Furs" using Evian Christ 's "Thrown Like Jacks" as a backdrop. If The Velvet Underground are sacred to you, you'll probably hate this, but if you also hold dear the advancement of music and enjoy the shit out of Evian Christ , you'll probably really like this, taken from Kiki's "Hitomimixtape" [...]

There's a chance for magic when musicians cross paths. For some it's groundbreaking ( Aerosmith ft. Run DMC – "Walk This Way" ), and other times it's the thought that counts ( Nelly ft. Tim McGraw – "Over and Over" ). But when there's that spark that elevates a collaborated piece to a whole new level, well, that's the stuff that melts the hearts of music fans. No longer are artists forced to snail mail DATs to each other via the Postal Service or find the time to meet in the studio. Online file sharing has facilitated endless possibilities for [...]

Thank goodness Allison is finished with that small distraction known as The Dead Weather and on to bigger and better, aka The Kills (now all we need is Jack to go back to The White Stripes and the universe will be right again). According to their Facebook page The Kills have finished their new record which will be out sometime this year... "Well hello friends. Happy new year to all of you! I write to you from Michigan on a snowy-ish evening. With Christmas and New Years festivities seemingly over, a flight early [...]
Stream: Electric Wizard- Venus In Furs -

So there's been a lotta talk among my Needle Drops about this upcoming Electric Wizard album, Black Masses . Of course, I can't blame them. I'm just as pumped for it-especially after this radio rip of the song "Venus In Furs" hit YouTube just a couple days ago. As far as I know, there's no relation to the Velvet Underground song , and one listen through should put any rumors of that to rest. Black Masses is set for a Nov. 1st release. The quality on this track [...]
This week the nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards were handed out in L.A. in advance of the March 7th award show. With ten nominations for Best Picture this year and all but locked up races for the Best Acting awards it was difficult to be too upset with all the nominations. Every year it seems the Academy does a fairly piss poor job of recognizing the music in movies, opting to nominate every ridiculously happy Disney tune over the darker entries in movies that are a little more adult oriented. Why this is I suppose we'll never know but [...]
Sempre grande Beck : prima ha coverizzato " Sunday Morning ", poi "I'm Waiting For The Man" e "Femme Fatale" . Proprio nell' articolo riguardante "I'm Waiting For The Man" e "Femme Fatale" il nostro maxreali concludeva dicendo "ci sarà sicuramente modo di vederne ancora".
[A really incomplete collect of Radiohead's B-sides, collaborations, live recordings, remixes and covers] B-sides : Inside My Head (1992) Killer Cars (1995) Talk Show Host (1996) Kinetic (2001) Worrywort (2001) [...]

Here's a track taken from the frankly awful Bowie biopic 'Velvet Goldmine'. Thought this was kinda relevant as two of the people involved are now producing the biggest albums around. Brian Eno (who wrote it) has just done the new Coldplay record and Bernard Butler (who plays on it) is riding high in the charts with Duffys record. The Venus in Furs were a band made up for the film and consisted of Radiohead's Thom York and Jonny Greenwood, Suede's Bernard Butler, Roxy Music's Andy Mackay and David Gray. Pretty stellar cast (apart from David Gray). [...]

TODAY'S ADDENDUM: Song: 2HB by Venus in Furs (with Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood) Release Date: November 1998 Find This: "Velvet Goldmine" Soundtrack Additional Info: I've spoken before about the soundtrack to the 1998 film "Velvet Goldmine" (directed by Todd Haynes of "I'm Not There" fame), which has a dynamite collection of artists on it from Placebo to Brian Eno to Shudder to Think to Roxy Music to T. Rex and Pulp. But the most notable contributions to the soundtrack, I think, [...]

I would have loved to be around for glam rock in the early '70's, especially at the height of Ziggy Stardust and T-Rextasy. It was such a colourful, purely fun time in music history. Rock music was tarted up and made no effort at authenticity, which was a dying concept in music anyway. Glam merely acknowledged that popular music was an act and could be freer as a result of wearing a mask. As with any music movement, it was short-lived and invited a backlash, but it was truly glorious while it lasted. It's usually agreed that the [...]
(These people just won an Oscar (tm), yo!) Jonny Greenwood wuz robbed! Okay, okay -- I know why Mr. Greenwood's Penderecki -inspired score for There Will Be Blood was disqualified from consideration for an Academy Award , but still. On the other hand, we're totally chuffed that Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová won the award for Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly" from the precious shot-on-a-shoestring recording diary picture Once . And yeah, I probably didn't win my office Oscar pool (it would be [...]

English Version: The Velvet Underground's classic song written by Lou Reed: Venus in Furs, according to wikipedia, this song was inspired by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's book of the same name, which refers to sado-masochism, fetishes and bondage. In fact, the term masochism is derived from this novelist; his book "Venus in Furs" is one of his famous novels. 4 great covers at the end of the post. Versión en Español: El clásico de [...]

First off, it's been way too long since i've posted anything here. I apologize as my internet has been completely messed up for about the past two weeks. I'm not even gonna guarantee that i'll even be able to post this without my internet flaking on me. I had a technician come to fix it a few days ago, but once i got back home from work it wasn't working again. So the technician won't be back here again till friday morning. Right now it's working, and i'm in a rush to get this finished [...]
