Sounds from nowhere. Music whispering like the breeze. Lazer guided melodies. Each week, an Ecuador based DJ who goes by the name Agte. Mulder puts together a podcast on Spreaker compiled of select shoegaze, dream pop, and drone sorts of music. Since I'm not too familiar with those genres myself, I asked Agte. Mulder if I could post his podcast here on The Record Stache. Thankfully, he agreed. The result is the Lazer Guided Melodies podcast [...]

"This is our first and last time in London" Kaizers Orchestra ringleader and founder Janove Ottesen confesses before a seething throng, only to then revert to the safe haven that is his default Norwegian. I needless to say can't even so much as begin to comprehend that last bit, but he seems pleased with himself as he stands proud on the cusp of the stage – a Scandi hybridity of Mike Patton and Alan Smith. The Bryne ensemble, now in its fourteenth year of existence having formed at the dawning of this contemporary millennium, may be [...]

Carla Bruni may be best known as the wife of ex-French president, Nicolas Sarkozy. Her husband, Nicolas Sarkozy, continues to be in the news for various reasons after being unseated by Francios Hollande. Carla is an heiress, a model, and an ex-girlfriend of Mick Jagger, but what you may not know is that Carla has released four albums, with the latest being 'Little French Songs.' She recently premiered a video for her single, "Mon Raymond," a charming love song written for her husband, Sarkozy. Since the release of 20022s [...]

Meet Cory Thomas Hanson - the music extraordinaire that is behind the project W.H.I.T.E . Making shaken up pop music through his experimenting, Hanson's solo project is one for those of you who are heavily into dense, fanatical production. Hanson started W.H.I.T.E in the American Summer of 2008 as a solo recording project that substituted his usual Summer art school attendance. Having been around for five years, this bedroom project festooned into a big deal, as he has toured his music internationally and is set to release his third [...]
We certainly never started the day thinking that we'd be featuring "J'arrive à toi" from Carla Bruni as a recommended "Listen" track on DC. Sure, we can be taken in with the lovely French look and admit to being an easy mark for a woman -- particularly Bruni -- who can make singing in French an irresistibily alluring art form. But there's also something in the languidly turned melody and chiming, atmospheric guitar lines of "J'arrive à toi" ("I Come for You") that makes lyrical translation unnecessary. Taken from her forthcoming fourth album [...]
It’s time again for Friday on My Mind , our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around a common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News. It’s St. Patrick’s Day this upcoming Sunday so we’re looking at songs about luck. Ireland has observed the religious holiday of St. Patrick’s Day for the last 1,000 years every March 17th, which is said to be the day that Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick passed away back on 461 AD which was unlucky. Oddly enough, it turns out that St. Patrick wasn't [...]
Lead single from the brilliant album, A Storm In Heaven. The boys never should have abandoned this style. Longtime listeners of the podcast know how I feel about The Verve and the direction that they took starting with "A Northern Soul." But if you're unaware, the early EP, singles and the debut album were amazing. Sadly, after those releases they never properly recaptured the sound that made them an important band to begin with. While the album "Forth" is... well, a band attempting to re-establish relevance and a weak lob of an [...]

A ver qué [...]

We can agree to disagree, but the rainy and grey United Kingdom has produced several of the most evocative and influential bands of the past century, extending far past The Beatles and The Smiths to contemporary experimental acts. The problem, however, is that a good number of them have an irksome tendency to become insular, preferring to stay close to home. True, it’s at times more cost-effective and far easier to schedule, but that doesn't help us fans here over in the States. With that in mind, here's a list of UK acts we’d love to see in the near [...]

As the number one gets nearer, Aphex Twin and The Verve fall just short. At #8 we have the genius of Aphex Twin and his classic awkward ambient tune Analogue Bubblebath 1 . An analogue synth masterpiece of the early 90s. At #7, a bit of a chnage, since it's rockers The Verve and their Balearic classic A Man Called Sun .

'Tis the season to be merry (read: sherry-sozzled); for loving, even (read: doing something thoroughly regrettable atop the photocopier). Though the Bella Union Christmas Service at Islington's Union Chapel, whilst still an inherently festive bash, served as the glorious antithesis to the strangely rakish anecdotes of shagging on office machinery and slipping down one too many of the open bar singles, only to sick it back up in the back of a black cab at some ungodly hour. Ho ho ho , and a Happy New Year etc. The first of the night's two orthographically nightmarish aural [...]
I hope you're all relaxing and enjoying this Sunday evening. I on the other hand am completely exhausted. Two Christmas parties last night on opposite sides of town and late-night drinking escapades handicapped my workday. Now here I sit, trying to put together a mix tape for you when really all I want to do [...]
Rumors of a Smiths reunion ruled the Internet for the past week — apparently someone at Coachella has had the genius idea of luring Morrissey with the offer to make the festival 100% vegetarian if the Smiths played. But, of course, it's not going to happen , which is probably for the best. While the idea of being able to finally see one of the best bands of the '80s playing live is definitely an appealing one, we're still not entirely sure how we'd feel if the impossible did come to pass. Honestly, we can't see it [...]

At age 46, Bebel Gilberto has achieved considerable success as a musician. Her numerous tours and live shows along with 4 studio albums, each critically acclaimed and commercially successful, are a testament to her status as one the most prominent modern day bossa nova artists. She could easily adopt a more relaxed approach to life but on the contrary she seems to be doing the very opposite This year has seen her do a remarkable number of shows, tours and even humanitarian work. She has also been working on new material for her upcoming [...]
