If this is your first time to the Burning Ear then welcome to The TBE Digest, a place where I take a break from my usual gushing enthusiasm and cover some recent tracks that I am not so in love with but are still interesting/relevant/whatever. I've also started throwing covers in as well because, well, because I love covers. Dive in! ♫ MGMT - Flash Delirium / The first single from MGMT's follow-up, Congratulations , which is streaming for free at their website . I haven't heard it yet because frankly, "Flash Delirium" doesn't really [...]

While it's a shame not all of us could be there, EF contributor Victoria Lebron did more than enough to compensate as our eyes and ears for this year's SXSW. The following is a diary of all the madness of SXSW 2010 from her perspective; in other words, it's show and tell time, Austin style... This is the diary of a SXSW newbie. The experience was amazing, fun and overwhelming… and I'm still catching up on sleep. Three words: totally worth it. March 18, [...]

Not sure how old this is, don't really give a shit. Its a glorious ultra-africanised remake of Vampire Weekend's 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa' by The Very Best who I'm sure most of you are familiar with ( Radioclit and Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya ). They seem to like Ezra Koenig's voice and rightly so, very suited to African melodious affairs! [...]
What happens when bubble gum sweet electronic grooves blanket themselves over dark experimental noise thumpings? Magic. Javelin, whose No Mas LP is currently reeking rainbow colored havoc on my... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
post and pics by A-a & Kate Maxwell Friday evening was the kick off show for The Fader Presents One Step Beyond series at the American Museum of Natural History. Featuring live performances by The Very Best, Theophilus London and Ninjasonik, a sold out crowd danced under the planetarium sphere in the Rose Center for Earth and Space within the museum walls. Fortunately we had a QC photographer on site to capture the sights in addition to a private photo shoot with Esau Mwamwaya of [...]
It happened, I finally broke down. I have been holding back from you a growing collection of remix masterpieces from Brooklyn's own Alan Wilkis for much to long now and have decided to make good. Alan recently just released a downtempo remix of RJD2's The Shining Path that has been getting a lot of well deserved attention on hype machine. The track highlights his trademark funk heavy, dancefloor ready sound. Alan Wilkis remixes permiate my playlists and some of my favorites to date include the heavily blogged about remix of Yeasayer's Ambling Amp [...]

Last week, ?uestlove took to Twitter to announce the initial line-up for the third annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. Vampire Weekend, Mayer Hawthorne, and The Very Best will join The Roots, along with Clipse, Tune-Yards, Das Racist, DJ Jazzy Jeff, MM Jam Boys, and Bajah + The Dry Eye Crew. In his video announcement, ?uestlove promised to top last year's spectacular performance with Public Enemy with a special surprise reunion. "This is a reunion that we thought we would never get," he said of the surprise guest, "We've been waiting to make this reunion [...]

This is going to get complicated fast, so stay with me! The Very Best comes through today with a re-do of The xx 's remix of the Florence & The Machine classic, "You Got The Love". I am a massive fan of each one of these acts, so to see contributions from all of them on such a lovely song is truly a dream come true. The mixture of vocals from The xx and Florence, along with the sampling finesse of The Very Best is a recipe for absolute musical madness. Give it a spin [...]

Each month, we look forward to the second Friday of said calendar set, not only because it's usually payday (yeah!) but also because The FADER puts on their One Step Beyond party up at the American Museum of Natural History. We've caught a ton of rad acts there over the past few months, and this week's soiree promises to be equally rad. As you've no doubt gathered from the post title [...]

This Friday, One Step Beyond, The Fader's monthly party at the American Museum of Natural History, will return with live performances by The Very Best , Theophilus London and Ninjasonik . One Step Beyond, which is held in The Rose Center for Earth and Space, pairs the museum's unique ambiance with top musical acts from around the world. Past performers include Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Simian Mobile Disco, Switch, Matthew Dear, Jazzy Jeff, Amanda Blank and Kid Sister. The Very Best and Theophilus London have crossed paths (so to speak) on London's remixes of "Warm Heart of Africa" and "Julia", and while we've witnessed stellar independent [...]

So this remix of Yeasayer 's anthem "Ambling Alp" is the only one I've found to be worthy of the genius of the original track, which makes perfect sense as everything The Very Best touch turns to gold. It's been floating around for a while, but is still worth mentioning. I'm very excited to be catching them when they grace DC next Sunday along with Ninjasonik and Tabi Bonney (crazy line-up!). Yeasayer - [...]

The highly anticipated debut album from the Italian DJ and production duo Crookers, "Tons of Friends" which is out today on Southern Fried Records after years of impatiently waiting, is an easy contender for the album of the year title, no question about it. Why? Crookers manage to collect 20 tracks, 25 different guest features from some of the hottest artists and groups in the game from the past couple of years like Major Lazer, Miike Snow, Rye Rye, Drop The Lime, Poirier, Face-T, Róisín Murphy, Steed Lord, Spank Rock, mix and blend all kind of genres [...]

I was walking my newly acquired ( I use this term loosely, because it's my sister in-law's dog and I'm trying to kidnap him) and noticed that the days are becoming longer! I see the end of winter's misery and it's making me all gushy inside. Patios, grilling, bike riding, drinking outside, tennis, camping, roadtrips.... I can go on and on, but the time for us to "spring forward" is only a couple of weeks out. This Saturday's SNL episode has Zach Galifinakis hosting and Vampire Weekend as the musical guest. It's a tad too soon [...]

Ninjasonik debut 'Art School Girls' LP; SXSW and tour dates with The Very Best Brooklyn's Ninjasonik are taking their self-sustained, militant buzz off the streets and translating it onto wax for their long awaited debut album this spring. Beginning as an art concept record and a time capsule of their almost 18 months together, 'Art School Girls' features guest appearances from Matt and Kim, Team Robespierre , and Vivian Girls . It's obviously not the normal collaborative line-up for what [...]
