VISITOR

VISITOR Welcome VISITOR . Their first song "Los Feeling" reaches almost cringe worthy heights but is so uplifting and contagious that you'll forgive and forget any faults. So big it sounds like U2 making a dreamwave track minus all the Bono-obnoxiousness. And yeah, this is one of those tracks that is begging for remixes. Begging so much that there is a remix contest - flood the blogs now. VISITOR - "Los Feeling" (rough mix)

visitor Finally, I am posting something that deviates from the current trend WDPK seems to be setting. In other words, a piece that is not house or techno. Los Feeling was grabbed off of my blog roll; a blog that failed to keep readers updated for the last few weeks and has only recently started reposting . From the info I've gathered, Visitor was a trash group during the '90s that no longer operates. If that's the case (their music from the '90s), it's interesting that Los Feeling is still relevant today. [...]

VISITOR

VISITOR Although the news of the band's demise was unfortunate and untimely for those who followed UK kids Cobra Dukes, there's seemingly a dazzlingly bright light at the end of the tunnel. Out of the ashes of Cobra Dukes comes... Visitor . Much like the group's cosmically charged name implies, Visitor are very much of the dreamy, synth-driven variety. It's on the duo's debut demo, Los Feeling, that they show off their talent for crafting futuristic pop with gleaming synths and genuine hooks. That should come as no surprise when you learn that Visitor has been working [...]

Visitor - Los Feeling

Visitor - Los Feeling Formerly Cobra Dukes, then formerly What She Wants, UK's Visitor are giving us the first glimpse of their brand new Diamond Cut -produced material with the cosmically-charged Los Feeling. It's a terribly pretty, stirring voyage into the realm of shimmery stadium pop, and it's of course had the labels scratching feverishly at their door for more. With remixes already on the way from Designer Drugs and Valerie's Fear of Tigers, they're running a remix competition from their Myspace page with the potential for the best remixes to be licensed for future releases. UFO: "The Visitor" Interview with Drummer Andy Parker

UFO: "The Visitor" Interview with Drummer Andy Parker UFO released their 20th studio album, The Visitor , last month and BlogCritics.org calls the disc " gritty, classy, classic rock and it just doesn't miss a trick. " I had the chance to talk with drummer Andy Parker about his rejoining UFO, the new CD, the upcoming US tour and more. Here is a link to the feed and here is a direct link to the iTunes podcast . UFO are playing two shows in the area: October 9th @ Starland Ballroom in Sayreville (tickets [...]

A Sunday Conversation with Vinnie Moore of UFO

A Sunday Conversation with Vinnie Moore of UFO Some artists just don't need an introduction. Just like the Pope babbled incoherently the day Tommy Victor stopped by our office, I peed myself like a little school girl when Vinnie Moore, the dynamic solo artist and lead guitarist for my all-time heroes, UFO, walked in through our Ripple doors and plopped himself down on our red leather interview couch. Once I picked my jaw up off the Ripple floor, and the Pope found my tongue and gave it back to me, I started a conversation with one of rock and roll's most [...]

UFO - The Visitor

UFO - The Visitor Anyone who has ever loved the sound of a crushing electric riff, a perfect melody, a rousing chorus, rough-hewn, soulful vocals, or a guitar solo so freaking fast and dynamic that it makes your eyeballs water, needs no introduction to UFO . After 40 years in the business, these crazy brits have earned their place in the honored halls of rock and roll, both for their music and their mad antics. So let's cut to the chase shall we. The Visitor is, without a doubt, the best UFO album since [...]

The Receiver - "Visitor" video

The Receiver - Visitor
Columbus band The Receiver made a video for a new song called "Visitor" off their upcoming sophomore album, Length of Arms , due out this spring (CD release show 5/8 at Skully's). Production-wise, it's probably the best music video from a Columbus band I've seen, and a good song to boot. Bandmate brothers Jesse and Casey Cooper have submitted it to an Ohio Film competition, so if you agree with my positive assessment, be sure to give it some YouTube ratings love. I'd say it very much deserves to be a finalist.

Pop or not.

Pop or not. Imagine Doctor Frankenstein and Fernando Pessoa ham-fisted into a drug-happy music producer working in the south of the France in the 70s, and you have a safer introduction to the work Jean-Pierre Massiera than I've had, which was through the music itself. Massiera's name is synonymous with trippy, weird, indulging and indulgent musical productions all rocking and rolling from his own Studio D'Enregistrement Mediterranean (S.E.M.), which opened its doors in 1967. Finders Keepers have released a genre-defying, half-maddening, mostly entropic selection of Massiera moments from his first eleven years of work, including gems and strange from [...]

FrYars - Gets a little help from Stephen Hague

FrYars - Gets a little help from Stephen Hague The UK's FrYars is Ben Garrett, a 19 year old Londoner and his ambitious songwriting has earned him comparisons to artists as varied as Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright, David Bowie and Lloyd Cole. FrYars music begins life on a piano, before being sonically expanded on his computer, with layers of organic and electronic instrumentation. FrYars' debut album is due for release sometime this month (apparently). Entitled Dark Young Hearts , the album was produced with ex-Clor guitarist Luke Smith over the course of 2008, and will be released on FrYars ' own [...]

MySpace is Dead? (2): Rich's Rebuttal

At least this graph is more credible than the last one Rich sent me: Yes, obviously Facebook is winning the race, but this actually shows that for the most part traffic has stayed steady on MySpace over the last year. Mere fluctuations. For MySpace to die they'd have to experience a little more dramatic drop in its 60 million (!!!) monthly visitors. Besides, of course Facebook is leaving MySpace in the dust. Everyone and their grandma has started joining. Seriously, someone's grandma added me [...]

Video: "Visitors" - frYars

'Visitors' - frYars featuring Dave Gahan

So Long Will I Love This

So Long Will I Love This I've Loved You So Long (Il y a longtemps que je t'aime) A few weeks back I mentioned that The Visitor , now on video, was one those hidden gems of 2008 that I feared most people would miss. Well lets hope the same thing does not happen to I've Loved You So Long. The film is currently in theatres so be sure you do whatever you can to track it down. Estranged for 15 years, the two Fontaine sisters are reunited [...]

COTW: Well Written Summary Of Kanye's New Directon

COTW: Well Written Summary Of Kanye's New Directon In this edition of JumpTheTurnstyle's "Comment Of The Weak", we turn to visitor Lou Roe , who had some simple yet distinct words about his opinion of Kanye West ( on this post here ). His tactful choice of delivery, coupled with a powerful and succinct descriptive noun (in webspeak form, might I add) clearly allowed the readers of JumpTheTurnstyle a direct glimpse into the harsh personal opinion Lou Roe holds for Mr. West and the auto-tuned road his career has travelled. There was no room for debate in his remark. There was a distinct [...]

And in other news…

And in other news… If any of our students are reading - and we love you very much and all that - please don't come near me for the next week and a half unless it's mind-crushingly urgent (e.g. Sarah Palin has mistaken you for a moose and has started shooting at you from her helicopter). ktnxbai Speaking of work, our experimental little groovy website is up for Best Third Level Site Award this weekend in the Irish Web Awards . One is rather [...]

Twin Peaks Music, New Jersey Ninjas, Death Rays, Skulls, Turtles On Wheels, Planets, And Vistiors!

Twin Peaks Music, New Jersey Ninjas, Death Rays, Skulls, Turtles On Wheels, Planets, And Vistiors! • Swan Fungus reader Mark points out that, "Regarding Twin Peaks music [ see yesterday's post ]... There's a band called Whitelodge. They're not entirely based on Twin Peaks but are fucking amazing nonetheless. Most of their songs (in my opinion) deal with the same things Agent Cooper struggled with throughout the show: omnipresent evil, the beauty of simplicity, innocence juxtaposed against horror and those two principles contained in a very close proximity, etc. etc... One of those bands that makes me sad when I know that probably fewer than 100 people know/remember they exist. Check [...]

The Visitor (2008)

The Visitor (2008) Celluloid Director Tom McCarthy has a thing for portraying unlikely friendships. He did it with The Station Agent and he does it again with his new film The Visitor . The film's protagonist is Walter Vale (Richard Jenkins), a widowed college professor who lives a comfortable yet increasingly lonely existence. When Walter travels to New York for a conference, he finds his rarely-visited Manhattan apartment inhabited by Tarek, a drummer from Syria, and his Senegalese girlfriend Zainab. While initially vexed by the situation, Walter compassionately [...]
